New order Ceremony In a lonely place 12'' single 1981

I was in HS in the 80's when I meet Tommie, he's the guy that within 5 minutes asks "what's your favorite song?" followed by immediate judgment, either he talks your head off or shuns you forever. I still remember answering Ceremony, his eyes lit up and asked have you ever heard JD's version. Turns out Tommie wasn't 16 or 17 like us but in his mid 20's, and devoted all his income to buying more and more music. At his house weeks later he dug through crates and cued up a lousy (as I remember it) quality recording of Ceremony and I was floored by how raw and soulful the earlier recording was. Man I miss that guy, I miss the 80's too, the pay off for discovery was so high!

I was 3 when this came out and I remember hearing it through my youth and at nearly 40 i still come back to it. Simplicity.

Oh yes , im 45 and this throws me back to when I was 11 at primary school. Memories come flooding back when I hear this of the early 80's living in Sydney suburbs. Great music at a time when JD following the death of the lead singer became New Order. This and Temptation are my all time favourite New Order songs , I love and prefer the early raw versions of Cermeony and Temptation before the Substance Album came out in 87.

Mere words do not suffice when trying to remark upon the musical artistry of JD/NO. I'll tell you one thing, though; these 2 songs (these versions in particular) are like time machines which instantly launch me 30+ years into the past whenever I hear them, the way a scent can transport you into a memory you had completely forgotten about with vivid clarity.
