A mother is the one that loves you, cares about you, protects you, sacrifices for you, always wants the best for you, will do anything to ensure your well bing and happiness. The only motherly thing Quinn did for Beth was give her up and even that was not totally selfless. If sue cared about Beth she would have been happy that Shelby was there for her. She was also wrong to throw Shelby giving up Rachel in her face. She is no better then Shelby, if anything she is worse because Shelby was a surrogate and had no intention on keeping Rachel.

@@xxqueenofdarkness technically Quinn decided to give up the baby before she even told her family members so wasn't necessarily "put in that position bc of her family". They did have a role in it of course but she agreed to give up the baby before revealed anything to them. And Shelby was hired to be a surrogate so legally she wasn't supposed to be in Rachel's life anyways and she does admit that she regrets not being able to have a connection with Rachel despite that. So Beth is her chance to make up for what she lost as well. Shelby gave Quinn the opportunity to connect with Beth (which she didn't even have to do because Beth is legally not her child anymore; she gave up that opportunity from the day she put Beth up for adoption). No matter what Quinn has been through, she made the irresponsible decision to try and take Beth out of Shelby's care. That action alone is enough proof to show that Quinn was not mature and wise enough to take care of Beth. It all comes down to who will properly care for the child and who she legally belongs to.

The fact that Quinn went through everything she went through in seasons 1 & 2 and never (to our knowledge) received professional help is actually a really sad thought. She was clearly dealing with postpartum depression and acting out but nobody actually sought to help her with that. She instead clung to quick fixes like boyfriends, Beth and Prom Queen. It’s amazing she was able to turn it around season 4 and onward but a shame they didn’t show her getting help.
As someone who was adopted by their stepdad at a very young age and who’s bio dad constantly lies and comes in and out of her life, I can say 100% the adoptive parent is the real parent. Quinn had no right here.
Well...some are. Trust us on that one. And as a girl who was given straight to an orphanage for the start to her life, I can say that my mom is my only mom, and that my bio mom is nothing more than the person who’s body I came out of, and Quinn, as much as I do love her most of the time, is not doing the right thing.
When I was younger I went to an Idina Menzel Concert in Glasgow and she walked off the stage to me and gave me a hug and we took a selfie! It was legit the best day of my life!!!!

i have watched the show and still believe she deserved to see beth she is her mother and deserves split custody since rachels mom has become like a mother to beth she deserves custody though too so i believe split custody between the three of them is what was best for all involved
I loved this storyline. And I was so pissed they dropped it. Like imagine what we could have seen if they kept it going. Quinn and Puck visiting Beth. Shelby being her real mom but Quinn getting to visit her. Like imagine the kind of family they could have had if they did just drop the storyline.
I hated the storyline most of it because it was dropped so it was basically Quinn trying to get her child back (something that was NEVER going to happen) and puck and Shelby having a weird ass relationship. It would have been great to delve into the Quinn’s depression/mental health part of it. Either starting out with Shelby realizing and understanding why Quinn was so lost and helping her OR having Quinn not be able to see her child, coping with that pain until someone FINALLY helped her out and/or she got some therapy.
The problem is Diana Agron basically went from main character to reccuring character (S4) to guest (S5-S6) 😅So if Quinn appeared less, ofc all plot associated with the character would be compromised.
I'm sorry, but I'm 100% behind Shelby on this. Quinn was extremely lucky Shelby even let her near Beth, a lot of adoptive parents and foster parents don't want their children near the biological parents. Biology does not make you a mom, it makes you a mother, and yes there is a difference. You are related, thats it. A mother gives birth. A mom raises you, teaches you right from wrong, is a firm tone when you've done wrong but a shoulder to cry on when you hurt. A mom puts her child's needs above all else, no matter how tired, hurt, or angry you are. I've had friends whose step moms treat them far better than their real moms, or deadbeat biological dads who can't compare to what a father figure their best friend's dad has been. Biology means extremely little, and it's time people stopped treating blood relation as the sole reason to keep toxic people in their or someone else's life. Quinn made it very clear that she didn't want Beth, and yes, she had enough support from fellow Glee club members (Mercedes, Puck, Finn, even Rachel) that if she wanted to, she could have kept her. Even still graduated and done what she wanted. A teen pregnancy is not a death sentence to your life, many have overcome these odds before (and yes I know every case is different, what I'm saying is if she really wanted this, it was possible). But when she signed away those papers she lost all legal parental rights over Beth. All of them. Shelby was sympathetic because she understood the conflicting feelings of giving up your daughter, she gave Quinn and Puck a chance to be in Beth's life despite not having any legal obligation to do so. It's Quinn who grew selfish. She put her own wants and needs in front of what was best for Beth, and that kind of behavior is not healthy to have around a child. She took that kindness that Shelby gave her, and threw it in her face by sabotaging her home. By calling CPS then having the gall to show up like nothing happened. What if Beth was taken away? But instead of being with Puck or Quinn (since they have no rights to her) she was sent to a group home, or a foster home, or began bouncing around the system? What if she ended up in an unloving or abusive home? Social workers have anywhere from 6 to 10 cases (former foster kid here if anyone wonders how I know this), they can't always keep track and a lot of bad behavior slips through the cracks. Quinn did not think this through, she could have ruined that baby girl's life and Shelby's in one cruel swoop. She was in a safe, loving, and well provided home where Puck and Quinn could easily visit her, watch her grow up, grow close with her and Shelby. But she only cared about what she wanted, and Shelby put her in her place. Furthermore, Quinn? She showed no remorse. Not a sorry, not even a look of shame. She didn't even consider the ramifications of her actions. Instead she deflected it by saying being a biological mom was enough, insulted Shelby in her own home after sabotaging her kitchen and attempting to take her child from her. Shelby has raised Beth, she has been there those sleepless nights (the first year is absolutely the hardest), she's working yet still finding time for her, she's busting her ass so Beth can have a future. She may not be her mother, but Shelby is her MOM. There was no thought put into this, no realization that she could've sent Beth to a bad home, no understanding that even if Beth was taken she STILL would not get her back. None of this was thought through at all. It was impulsive, cruel, and dangerous. Beth doesn't need that in her life, and Quinn had more than enough opportunities to be the bigger person or be grateful for what she could get.

The way Shelby treats Quinn and Puck differently is problematic. It really didn't take much of Puck's effort to see Beth. Shelby reached him out first (I don't know why), and he didn't have to change his look or behaviour but Quinn had to go back to perfection to get to see Beth. I'm not saying what Quinn did is right, she needs therapy. Shelby kept on rubbing it in her face about Beth and think she's has a right to go off on the deep end about it. She's wrong about one thing, it does matter who gave birth to Beth. Shelby just can't seem to accept that. She gave up on Rachel and she can't start over with someone else's baby. I know Quinn was out of line but in her defense she tried to make up for it. I feel deeply concerned about Quinn.

Quinn deserved to see Beth once in a while and Shelby was all for letting that happen. THEN Quinn went and tried to get Beth *taken* from Shelby. Quinn lost all rights in that moment because she wasn’t thinking about Beth, she was thinking about herself. Quinn just wanted something to make her feel whole inside, not a baby. Shelby was right in saying Quinn had no idea what it meant to be a mother. Quinn gave up her rights when she put Beth up for adoption. That was purely due to her situation at the time. She might’ve felt forced to give her up. Shelby, understanding this, was willing to try and let Beth have a relationship with her. Quinn officially lost that chance when she acted like a child and proved she was in no position to be a parent. Beth isn’t hers. Shelby was right in this instance. (Also, Shelby didn’t “give up” her baby. It wasn’t her baby. She was a surrogate. It doesn’t matter who the baby exited. It matters who’s gonna love the baby and take care of it. She wasn’t Rachel’s mother, but she will be Beth’s.)
A majority of these comments did NOT pass the vibe check. For all those criticizing Shelby, she did not "sell off her daughter" or "give up on Rachel." She was a surrogate mother for a couple, in this case Rachel's gay dads, who cannot physically have children. It is a legal process she and the Berry family signed off on. The agreement, which she knew beforehand, is that while she is birthing Rachel and is the biological mother, she doesn't have any legal rights to raising her. She did not "sell her child" because she would not have been allowed to or legally get away with it. Also to those defending Quinn, yes I do think she has some kind of postpartum depression and I desperately wished the show touched on that. However, how Quinn is acting here is not only deeply immature and selfish, but it is also willfully ignorant. She signed away all her legal rights to Beth when she gave the girl up for adoption. Shelby, the woman who has been raising Beth for approximately a year and a half at this point, is Beth's mom now, not Quinn.
Quinn blatantly said she did NOT want beth.She had people to and who wanted to help support her through pregnancy and being a parent. (mercades, puck, ect.) She gave Beth up. She signed over her rights. SHE had NO rights to that child. Beth was NOT her baby, and she was NOT her mother. Quinn should have been grateful she ever got to see beth after the adoption. Shelby was really strong and kind to try and let Quinn be a part of Beth's life, Quinn didn't even deserve it. Then she once more proved what a horrible person she was by deliberately trying to take beth away from her real mother. I would have filed a restraining order on Quin and she NEVER would have seen beth again until (maybe) when beth turned 18 and chose to either seek her out or go on without her.

Well, quinn called her a cash whore, even though a surrogate is something completely different and selfless thing to do. I think it was only fair. Like shelby said, it's about wanting what's best for your child and no matter how positive quinn became in the future, in this moment she was literally throwing negative and judgmental vibes and you can't have that around a little child.
Beth is not Quinn‘s child. She should have been grateful that Shelby wanted to include her at all. Instead she tried to sabotage her and then insulted her.
Quin blatantly said she did NOTwant beth.She had people to support and help them (mercades, puck, ect.) She gave Beth up. She signed over her rights. SHE had NO rights to that child. Beth was NOT her baby, and she was NOT her mother. Quinn should have been grateful she ever got to see beth after the adoption. Shelby was really strong and kind to try and let Quinn be a part of Beth's life, Quinn didn't even deserve it. Then she once more proved what a horrible person she was by deliberately trying to take beth away from her real mother. I would have filed a restraining order on Quin and she NEVER would have seen beth again until (maybe) when beth turned 18 and chose to either seek her out or go on without her.

You probably didn't watch the entire show then because she has the best character development. She gave up her bitchiness and gave her crown to Rachel and became her friend, gave up the idea of having Beth because she realised she wasn't her mom but just her mother, told the troubletones to join the glee club again and in S4,5,6 there is no scene of her where she's mean. She became a really mature women who cared for her friend and realised she doesn't need man validation and imo I think it's a beautiful growth. Not to mention she was just 16-17 when she was at her worst For me the worst character is definitely Blaine or Tina because they really start as good characters and became unlikeable and really bad written

I don’t believe the story followed that angle, seeing as both Quinn and Puck were comfortable together when visiting/trying to co-raising Beth with Shelby.
This comment section ain't it. As an adoptee who does love my adoptive parents this show did not handle this storyline well. Quinn was young and didn't have support in this decision and then was told she isn't allowed to feel the way she feels. Some of y'all need to do some research on adoption
What? Quinn was allowed to keep the baby and stay at Mercedes’ house. But no, she wanted to be Ms.Popular again. After you give a baby up for adoption, and they get adopted, you have no right to see that child. Shelby was being nice but Quinn fucked that up with her selfishness once again.
I believe Quinn shouldn't get Beth back, but she should get to see her IF she truly changes herself. The thing is, at this time, she was a teenager. I'm 20 something and if someone said "change yourself" to me back when I was a teenager I wouldn't know shit. Who do I ask? What do I do? What's the first step? Quinn had NO good adults around her, actually. They failed her, and she's desperate. That doesn't make it Shelby's fault. That doesn't mean Quinn's not wrong. But some people here talk about teenagers as if they've never been teenagers themselves
I know what Quinn did was wrong but shelby knows how hard it is. I think shelby should have told her that she needed to get her act together and then she could see Beth. Not letting Quinn see Beth anymore is worse that anything Quinn did.
Shelby literally told Quinn that and then Quinn called Child Protective Services. This whole confrontation has NOTHING to do with Quinn. Quinn’s anguish is not the issue of concern. Beth’s upbringing is what matters here. Quinn was a direct threat to Beth’s safety at that point and Shelby did the correct thing.
I don't like how Shelby acts like she went through the same thing as Quinn when Shelby was Rachel's surrogate mother. Quinn accidentally got pregnant and did what she thought was best for Beth and herself (though in season 3 she did go way too far with trying to get Beth back and everything) but surrogates go into the pregnancy *for* the couple, like Rachel's dads, and there was never the option or expectation to keep the baby. It's really different!
Here's the thing the writerd were so focused on one character they never navigated well or addressed what the characters were going through besides Reachel, Kurt and Finn. Otherwise characters were just dumped along with so many storylines

Not really. She lost that right when she gave her up for adoption. Shelby became her legal parent and thus has the right to make the choice. She was trying to do the right thing, but clearly Quinn was mentally unfit.

Quinn is Beth's biological mother, but due to adoption laws, Quinn relinquished her parental rights since she agreed to the terms of the adoption process with Shelby. If anyone who was unfair in this situation it's Quinn; Shelby was actually considerate in letting Quinn see her daughter, but she ruined those chances after she attempts to frame Shelby as an unfit mother, which Shelby saw as an act of ungratefulness.
Quin gave up the right to be a mother. You can't rip away a child from the only family they know, just because you feel like playing house all of a sudden.... Quins mom offered quin to move in with her and help her raise the baby. Money wasn't an issue and quin could've finished school. She had every opportunity to raise Beth. Quinn made a lot of mistakes but considering how Shelby felt about Rachel, she should have known better. Quinn is a teenager so she can grow up and I get not trusting her but Beth is her child so this is just cruel. She wanted her baby in her life she just didn’t think she could raise her when she was 16 and she’ll be regretted how things turned out with Rachel. ( Although I I still hate her for that. Rachel clearly wanted her in her life and are a lot of things girls turn to their moms for at that age or later. Making her discover who you are and then deciding you don’t want to be part of her life was a very cruel move.) She should have given her supervised only visits. That way she wouldn’t have to trust Quinn but she also wouldn’t be taking her daughter away from her.

They did have a role in it of course but she agreed to give up the baby before revealed anything to them. And Shelby was hired to be a surrogate so legally she wasn't supposed to be in Rachel's life anyways and she does admit that she regrets not being able to have a connection with Rachel despite that. So Beth is her chance to make up for what she lost as well. Shelby gave Quinn the opportunity to connect with Beth (which she didn't even have to do because Beth is legally not her child anymore; she gave up that opportunity from the day she put Beth up for adoption). No matter what Quinn has been through, she made the irresponsible decision to try and take Beth out of Shelby's care. That action alone is enough proof to show that Quinn was not mature and wise enough to take care of Beth. It all comes down to who will properly care for the child and who she legally belongs to.

The fact that Quinn went through everything she went through in seasons 1 & 2 and never (to our knowledge) received professional help is actually a really sad thought. She was clearly dealing with postpartum depression and acting out but nobody actually sought to help her with that. She instead clung to quick fixes like boyfriends, Beth and Prom Queen. It’s amazing she was able to turn it around season 4 and onward but a shame they didn’t show her getting help.
As someone who was adopted by their stepdad at a very young age and who’s bio dad constantly lies and comes in and out of her life, I can say 100% the adoptive parent is the real parent. Quinn had no right here.

I loved this storyline. And I was so pissed they dropped it. Like imagine what we could have seen if they kept it going. Quinn and Puck visiting Beth. Shelby being her real mom but Quinn getting to visit her. Like imagine the kind of family they could have had if they did just drop the storyline.

I hated the storyline most of it because it was dropped so it was basically Quinn trying to get her child back (something that was NEVER going to happen) and puck and Shelby having a weird ass relationship. It would have been great to delve into the Quinn’s depression/mental health part of it. Either starting out with Shelby realizing and understanding why Quinn was so lost and helping her OR having Quinn not be able to see her child, coping with that pain until someone FINALLY helped her out and/or she got some therapy.
The problem is Diana Agron basically went from main character to reccuring character (S4) to guest (S5-S6) 😅So if Quinn appeared less, ofc all plot associated with the character would be compromised.

I'm sorry, but I'm 100% behind Shelby on this. Quinn was extremely lucky Shelby even let her near Beth, a lot of adoptive parents and foster parents don't want their children near the biological parents. Biology does not make you a mom, it makes you a mother, and yes there is a difference. You are related, thats it. A mother gives birth. A mom raises you, teaches you right from wrong, is a firm tone when you've done wrong but a shoulder to cry on when you hurt. A mom puts her child's needs above all else, no matter how tired, hurt, or angry you are. I've had friends whose step moms treat them far better than their real moms, or deadbeat biological dads who can't compare to what a father figure their best friend's dad has been. Biology means extremely little, and it's time people stopped treating blood relation as the sole reason to keep toxic people in their or someone else's life.
Quinn made it very clear that she didn't want Beth, and yes, she had enough support from fellow Glee club members (Mercedes, Puck, Finn, even Rachel) that if she wanted to, she could have kept her. Even still graduated and done what she wanted. A teen pregnancy is not a death sentence to your life, many have overcome these odds before (and yes I know every case is different, what I'm saying is if she really wanted this, it was possible). But when she signed away those papers she lost all legal parental rights over Beth. All of them.
Shelby was sympathetic because she understood the conflicting feelings of giving up your daughter, she gave Quinn and Puck a chance to be in Beth's life despite not having any legal obligation to do so. It's Quinn who grew selfish. She put her own wants and needs in front of what was best for Beth, and that kind of behavior is not healthy to have around a child. She took that kindness that Shelby gave her, and threw it in her face by sabotaging her home. By calling CPS then having the gall to show up like nothing happened.
What if Beth was taken away? But instead of being with Puck or Quinn (since they have no rights to her) she was sent to a group home, or a foster home, or began bouncing around the system? What if she ended up in an unloving or abusive home? Social workers have anywhere from 6 to 10 cases (former foster kid here if anyone wonders how I know this), they can't always keep track and a lot of bad behavior slips through the cracks. Quinn did not think this through, she could have ruined that baby girl's life and Shelby's in one cruel swoop. She was in a safe, loving, and well provided home where Puck and Quinn could easily visit her, watch her grow up, grow close with her and Shelby. But she only cared about what she wanted, and Shelby put her in her place.
Furthermore, Quinn? She showed no remorse. Not a sorry, not even a look of shame. She didn't even consider the ramifications of her actions. Instead she deflected it by saying being a biological mom was enough, insulted Shelby in her own home after sabotaging her kitchen and attempting to take her child from her. Shelby has raised Beth, she has been there those sleepless nights (the first year is absolutely the hardest), she's working yet still finding time for her, she's busting her ass so Beth can have a future. She may not be her mother, but Shelby is her MOM. There was no thought put into this, no realization that she could've sent Beth to a bad home, no understanding that even if Beth was taken she STILL would not get her back. None of this was thought through at all. It was impulsive, cruel, and dangerous. Beth doesn't need that in her life, and Quinn had more than enough opportunities to be the bigger person or be grateful for what she could get.

Except Shelby did provide a chance for Quinn to be in Beth's life. From the Glee wiki under Quinn Fabray: Shelby Corcoran returns to Lima with Quinn and Puck's biological daughter, Beth. She extends an offer to Quinn and Puck to see Beth, but only Puck accepts Shelby's offer. Puck tries to tell her to listen to Shelby but cuts him off. Quinn yells at Shelby saying she is Beth's real mom and storms out of the room.

Shelby is right. Quinn has no right to try to steal Beth back since she gave her up in the first place. And when you gave your child up for adoption you can't claim them back. The way Shelby treats Quinn and Puck differently is problematic. It really didn't take much of Puck's effort to see Beth. Shelby reached him out first (I don't know why), and he didn't have to change his look or behaviour but Quinn had to go back to perfection to get to see Beth. From the Glee wiki under Quinn Fabray: Shelby Corcoran returns to Lima with Quinn and Puck's biological daughter, Beth. She extends an offer to Quinn and Puck to see Beth, but only Puck accepts Shelby's offer. Puck tries to tell her to listen to Shelby but cuts him off. Quinn yells at Shelby saying she is Beth's real mom and storms out of the room.
Quinn then decides to plant unsafe stuff at Shelby's house to make her look like an irresponsible mother, in hopes that she would get full custody of Beth. The scene in this video happens after that.

Quinn lost all rights in that moment because she wasn’t thinking about Beth, she was thinking about herself. Quinn just wanted something to make her feel whole inside, not a baby. Shelby was right in saying Quinn had no idea what it meant to be a mother. Quinn gave up her rights when she put Beth up for adoption. That was purely due to her situation at the time. She might’ve felt forced to give her up. Shelby, understanding this, was willing to try and let Beth have a relationship with her. Quinn officially lost that chance when she acted like a child and proved she was in no position to be a parent. Beth isn’t hers. Shelby was right in this instance. (Also, Shelby didn’t “give up” her baby. It wasn’t her baby. She was a surrogate. It doesn’t matter who the baby exited. It matters who’s gonna love the baby and take care of it. She wasn’t Rachel’s mother, but she will be Beth’s.)
A majority of these comments did NOT pass the vibe check. For all those criticizing Shelby, she did not "sell off her daughter" or "give up on Rachel." She was a surrogate mother for a couple, in this case Rachel's gay dads, who cannot physically have children. It is a legal process she and the Berry family signed off on. The agreement, which she knew beforehand, is that while she is birthing Rachel and is the biological mother, she doesn't have any legal rights to raising her. She did not "sell her child" because she would not have been allowed to or legally get away with it.

Beth’s upbringing is what matters here. Quinn was a direct threat to Beth’s safety at that point and Shelby did the correct thing.

I don't like how Shelby acts like she went through the same thing as Quinn when Shelby was Rachel's surrogate mother. Quinn accidentally got pregnant and did what she thought was best for Beth and herself (though in season 3 she did go way too far with trying to get Beth back and everything) but surrogates go into the pregnancy *for* the couple, like Rachel's dads, and there was never the option or expectation to keep the baby. It's really different!
You still carry a baby and have to give it up. Zhe only difference is that one does not have the choice to give the baby up, the other does.
Here's the thing the writerd were so focused on one character they never navigated well or addressed what the characters were going through besides Reachel, Kurt and Finn. Otherwise characters were just dumped along with so many storylines

Quinn made a lot of mistakes but considering how Shelby felt about Rachel, she should have known better. Quinn is a teenager so she can grow up and I get not trusting her but Beth is her child so this is just cruel. She wanted her baby in her life she just didn’t think she could raise her when she was 16 and she’ll be regretted how things turned out with Rachel. ( Although I I still hate her for that. Rachel clearly wanted her in her life and are a lot of things girls turn to their moms for at that age or later. Making her discover who you are and then deciding you don’t want to be part of her life was a very cruel move.) She should have given her supervised only visits.
