Very interesting video guys. Absolutely loved all the info. I have got an Rd28 GU myself and was thinking about doing the conversion. You guys have help me to consider doing the conversion myself thanks guys great video
Howdy guys always good content and a laugh, a TD 42 is tried and tested mule, why not try a try something else like a 4JJJ, the price must have been good for all of that, Patrola Parts are the way to go 😉
Yeah, we literally had a week to get it before 10 days on Yorke Peninsula. The 4JJ1 motor keeps popping. What’s the go. Why are they so good? 4cyl actually better than the 6?
My rd is a big slug especially with 35s going to rainbow and Frasier couldn’t do proper 110 tends to over heat Love 4.2 but still run issues on over heating my next conversion is 6bt
Not sure why people say the TD42 overheats. I’m running 450nm and it flys. At 100km, towing the boat in 28c heat, it runs at 90c. Totally stock cooling system. Few stock stock bits really help: air damn under the car, rubber inner guards, stock water pump, stock radiator and she’s good to go.
@@happymanasfksubaru2846 yeh man, that’s it. Heard the airdam under the front and the rubber inner guards make a difference too. So I’m running both of them now. I can sit on 110kph and be in the 80 degrees
@@willmcc05 yeah but with the 4j, you still have to get it engineered don't you? TD42, as long as that model patrol came with a 4.2 then update engine numbers and cya later.
haha yeah... not the greatest solution. But a little bit of black electrical tape over it has "fixed" it for me. The ECU is looking for a tonne of sensors that are no longer there. Hense the engine light. Propper way would be to pull the ECU out too but that might start to play with AC controls etc.
It was actually pretty easy. The TD42 wires required are glowplug relay, timing sensor for taco, use the RD28 temp sensors which fit the TD42 block and the fuel stop solenoid. That's pretty much it. Are you going to give it a go?

Good trick with the cable tie Rich !
Yeeewwww loved seeing the most stoked bloke in the universe on the channel Rich! What life long favours do you owe flabio for borrowing his stuff?

Geez, I went on your channel and sused out your 2.8. Great exhaust whistle.
top work guys , love the TD42 one of Nissan's best motors
An oldie, but a goodie
Hey bro are you still using the stock RD28 diffs, gearbox and transfercase or did you have to change and use the TD42?
Wow, professional and nice video! We have a 12 gang panel and some auxlights if you are interested to test?
Top work fellas!
Good work boys making me keen for my td42 45/patrol project
Ooofff!! What chassis are you using?
That bell housing with 2 bolt starter is a tb one
Oh is that what it’s from!? Thanks Trent. No idea where that came from then. Motza of parts in the shed.
Have you done the conversion too?
Great job guys, well done. Seeya Rob.
Thank you for the video, I'm planning the same conversion over Easter .
You won’t regret it Geoff. It’s so much more drivable now. And the 4.6 diffs from the 2.8 pair really nicely with the TD42
did you do it?
@@SofoniasDES not yet, unfortunately family have delayed the project for about 3 months.

@@nickunw it's just overhyped, yeah it can make power but so can any other common rail 4
@@darcykeddell4930 the other that would have been fun is a Cummins 6BT. But hear it’s a pretty expensive conversion
@@nickunw yeah would be cool but all the new crate motors are made in china
I'd rather put a crd zd30 in then a 4j say it's better but they over heat and snap cranks so td42 is what? Haha

@Nick Unwin all you need is good viscous hub and good working cooling system my gu slivertop running 16psi 315nm daily egt is around 250-300

6bt is way too heavy I'd rather a 4j or a td still make good power and can make it legal alot easier

Hi guys, just purchased a td42 converted rd28. Did you guys have any issues with the engine light staying on after the conversion? Cheers

I'd love to see a conversion to OM606 or M57 with a 8HP70 trans. So much stronger than Nissan and easy to get 400HP.

Front mounted intercooler. more power and torque. And used f55 turbo, much reluable on td42s
Should be good being able to have 150kw to the wheels instead of 15
Used to dream of 15kw! Pray for downhill. Pray for tailwind. Not any more.
The issue im having is 4jj1 or td42 conversion :/
You would be stupid not to go 4jj1
I think it entirely depends on the user case and how “stock” you want to keep everything.
What are the pros to the 4jj1?
First
Should have a day to spare.
That’s what I thought 😂
If only I had a band saw and a bevel. Then maybe we’d have got it in 3.2 days
Go the Patrol! great to see! very interesting! 🛻📹🤙😎
