LOVED watching this guy skate. He absolutely flew and was a joy to the eyes. He could defend, score, pass, hit, kill, quarterback, and he probably could play goal if asked. Whereas Bure was an electrifying skater, Fedorov was the most complete player I’ve ever seen.
Its such a shame all these 80s 90s legends played in their prime where HD resolution wasn't even a thing yet...Federov brings back a lot of memories...great vid keta!
As someone just getting into hockey, this is exactly the type of channel I have been trying to find. Learn about the history of the sport and key players. Thank you!
I got into hockey around 90-91 and idk why but i was drawn to detroit red wings and man.... that was that a hockey team. The russian 5 destroyed the nhl and the red wing had a literal all star team from the mid 90's to the early 2000's. This year with Datsyuk, detroit had 10hall of famers on the 2002 roster. 10 LoL Sergei Fedorov broke my heart when he left detroit and went to Anaheim who just beat them in the playoffs.
@Knards Top 5 all time? Respectfully That's a silly thing to say. He had less points than games. He's not even a top 3 Red Wing of all time. Let alone a top 5 player of all time. I love Fedorov and thought he was an amazing player but what you're saying is just not true. He's 55th in all time points but according to you he's top 5 all time player
in 91' my Dad ran into the Russian team when they were shopping, he had enough Russian to talk to the Coach. They were goin ballistic over game consoles and other stuff in the mall they could buy and smuggle back to Russia. We then saw Fedorov play against Canada and I will never forget it; I didn't know someone could move that fast, it was simply unreal for a kid like me. There were stories of how the Russians trained, skating around the rink with cement blocks behind them to build strength and speed.
Many Red Wings fans resent Fedorov after he left the team after 13 seasons at the age of 33! But his results in recent years in the Red Wings were not so outstanding. He is one of the most gifted players in hockey and I think that even with all the achievements that he has, he has not fully realized his potential. Sergei moved to another team in search of his best game. Unfortunately, this did not happen with other teams. Just a reminder that he fled the country to play hockey, to play at the highest level.
As a ducks fan I hated him because the wings were our rival. Brain suffered whiplash when he signed with us. Didn’t work out as well as we hoped but I can appreciate how great of a player he was.
Brian Burke shipped him out of Anaheim because Getzlaf, Perry and Penner were 22-23 years old. Fedorov liked the night life and so did the young guys. Burke didn’t want them to ruin their careers by partying.
The man literally put Nike hockey on the map and we still talk about that popularity in hockey equipment circles. He was in god mode on those Nike sponsorship years
@@Louis-kx9ehSteve also said his leadership was "overblown" during his jersey retirement ceremony. Steve was modest and humble, almost to a fault - and that's why I loved watching him. Yes, Fedorov was a more talented hockey player than Steve. But Steve's character and attitude made up for what he lacked in pure talent. Unfortunately, Fedorov's attitude got in the way much of the time and hindered him, dearly.
Welcome to the channel! Under my 'Community' tab, I've got a poll asking everyone which player you want for the next episode. Make sure you vote for Forsberg!
The sad thing is, San Jose was already playing a European style when they had Garpenlov, Larionov, Makarov, and Ozolinsh on the back end. They didn't win anything, and it wasn't as catchy. But Sharks got there first.
We are on the way to the promised land! Trading Bertuzzi now while he has value would be great. But, His tough stance on Covid almost makes Him untradable.
Do your research He didn’t sign for less then what wings offered .. redwings had offered 5 yrs 50 mill but fedorov declined cause he needed a new agent (his former agent ripped him off for 60 mill) then they offered 4 yrs 40 mill and feds was set to sign but then wings gave Hatcher a massive contract and reduced feds contract to 4 yrs 32 mill So that’s why Sergei left the wings Retire 91
As a lifelong Wings fan it's absurd that #91 isn't hanging from the rafters. It'll be the biggest insult to not only Fedorov, but all of us fans if his number doesn't get retired. It's ridiculous that he was on a line with Bure & Mogilny 😅. 3 future NHL all-stars on 1 line.
In todays hockey word he is not talked about nearly enough. His first 10 seasons he could have won an art Ross or Selke every year. The only reason he did not is because when your so good at both offensive and defensive you usually don’t lead in either. If he decided to focus on year on one or the other it would be lights out. He played center, wing, and actually lots of defense. He played 5v5, PK, PP, in need of a goal, protect the lead. Plus he played on the wings one of the greatest teams ever so easy to overlook him, put him on Buffalo or something you would see just how talented he was. Find interviews those who played with him; he is if not number 1; in the top 5 best two way forwards in history.
Good observation! He was sacrificed for team's success. That's why his numbers doesn't tell really story how great and useful he was.Every coach wanted him back then.

could watch him skate all day ! great synapsis, dude could do it all and he did.

You don't need HD to appreciate their game and their skill.
What a majestic player he was.
Great choice of word. Can't think of any other player as "majestic" as Fedorov.
Man I miss watching my childhood hero play hockey
Truly one of the greatest players to play the game 🏒
It was always a treat watching him play my Canucks. We had no answer for him lol
Another great video. Thanks for making them. 👍
Thanks for watching!
Wow great job
Sergei could control a game as well as Wayne and Mario. Truly a great one.

My favorite player of all time wore 91 the years I could, guy was so elite and aggressive.
Best player i ever watched
Nice video. As much as I loved Yzerman, Shanahan, Lidstrom, etc, Fedorov was always my favorite Wing of the 1990s.

I could make a shrine with all the Fedorov stuff i have, including his cereal 😂
The Russian 5 deserves their own wing in Toronto
Amazing video! Keep it up!
Thanks broski
All the players you talk about are amazing players!
Happy new year!
My all-time favorite Red Wing, and easily in the top 5 of all hockey players
Fedorov was great, but top 5 of all time? No way. Not even top 20. You must not know much about hockey.

Elite offense and defense. Possibly the greatest two way player of all time.
He was smarter than Forsberg but for 98 I would rather have Forsberg but his style caused him to get injured a lot
@@michaelromandel9022 They would both be on the Mount Rushmore for sure.

They had some awesome commercials, my favorite was thr Blackhawks goalie at the burger joint buggin out over Sergei.
Don't know what's worse, being trapped in the Soviet Union or playing for Mike Babcock.
Haha good one
