Highest hockey IQ, niftiest moves and skating, best hands in the sport, top backhander, best puck robber in the sport, best coordination, best entertainer in ice-hockey, most fan-friendly player - that's all about Pavel the Magician Datsyuk
I don't care how many Michigan's are scored nowadays or all these fancy moves players see on tiktok, nobody will ever touch Datsyuk. He could make literally nothing turn into the sickest shit you've ever seen. And he was so nonchalant about everything he did, literally made NHL players look like kids then just go back to the bench like nothing happened 😂
I love the guy, definitely one of my idols. What I really like about him...is how much impact he brought to the game that couldn't be measure with stats. That's why so many players respected him.
If Datsyuk never existed, who would dare to make up a fictional player with this incredible array of skills? Almost as miraculous, he remained self-effacingly humble during his entire career. A true jaw-dropper!
My favorite player not named Gretzky or Lemieux. He does not have 1000 career NHL points but when his 4 Byngs, 3 Selkes, 2 Cups and +249 rating are considered in his short NHL span, that says a lot. A Hall Of Fame career, indeed!
It is impossible to evaluate Datsyuk's persona only according to generally accepted rules, schemes, tables, and results. He was very helpful in many ways.
He.had to leave NHL to get ready for 2018 Olympics which he and his team mates won in the final overtime in the most dramatic fashion imaginable. But his career is primarily not about titles and trophies, it's fine arts - the very reason why hockey is loved all over the world. Thanks Pavel, thank you for the miracles you created
I watched Wayne Gretshy for years BUT when Pavel Datsyuk showed up it was Magic To me nobody on the NHL had hands and the determination to succeed and WIN. Surely do miss him Perhaps one day he will make an appearance back to his Second Home here in Detroit with the Red Wings again.
you just can't get enough out of Datsyuk, so sad to see players like this retire, even as a ducks fan and a finn i gotta admit, Datsyuk is a real game-changer, there wont't ever be a player whit the hands, confidence, fantasy, skills, leadership and puckhandle. you can always expect anything out of him, he can do anything at any time, hands down, he's one of the best players to ever enter the ice or the NHL.
Datsyuk is by far one of the best complete players to ever play in the NHL. And one of the most skilled no doubt!!! He was a special player. Best hockey iq ever
I don't really know where to start. This guy for anyone who knows hockey is just about the most complete player to ever play. His finesse and humility are unmatched. As other players in this video keep reiterating how he's the best player in the league, just shows you how incredible he is. His far side backhand goal against the Sharks for example...who else has scored a goal like that? Simply mesmerizing with his creativity and selflessness with the puck. His assists were sometimes more highlight reel than his goals. And that's saying something. It's a real shame he left the NHL this year, as he is truly missed.
Keldon Lemon people to this day don’t realize how good this guy was. I’d say maybe the most complete player of all time, to go along with UNDOUBTEDLY the best pure puck skills of all time. Nobody has the repertoire he had and I don’t think anyone will ever.
KevinKnox Playlist CORRECT. Lidstrom was the most complete defenseman of all time. The fact that he never even needed to hit anybody shows how great he was.
I wasn't even that big of a hockey fan overall, but I would watch games just to see this guy stick handle and pass. He was such an amazing player! Also a great sense of humor and no ego whatsoever. Pretty rare fellow.

Whenever datsyuk came to my hometown, i always watch him score on my team and i wouldn't even care if my team lost....my favourite player....happy to be alive to witness him play.
if I had to take one player to start my team in an all time fantasy draft, I'd take datsyuk number one. best hands, amazing iq, best defensive forward, amazing skater, pin point shot, secretly strong and solid, and plain and simple the most skilled player ever. no other player packs everything that datsyuk does and there has never been a player make other nhlers look like the jv team every night. watching him every night he always did something you just had to laugh at because you hadn't seen it before. there isn't any one with better hands and there isn't any player that matches him at both ends. my opinion but the absolute best ever.
He wasn’t eligible when you posted your comment, but I came to this video to watch his highlights after he was selected as part of the 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame class.

Le'veon Bell #26hunnit #BellDeezy #GOAT hell no ... thing is yzerman and Datysyuck never had to suck up to the refs to win a game and they never play dirty or whine like a bitch .
Got see him live a dozen or so times......the most skilled hockey player I’ve ever seen. Able to do things I didn’t think were possible. Even on routine/non-‘highlight’ plays that don’t end up as a goal or an assist, etc....just absurd talent: the fake drop pass to get some space coming from his own end, perfect position backchecking to prevent a pass on a 3 on 2 against, getting guys leaning the wrong way so space opens for teammate, etc...and on and on.....the dude was just absurd. His release was so quick and he’d shoot “off beat” a lot...getting the puck off his blade before the ‘natural rhythm’ of play...and that, in a league where every goalie is great & defenders are great at getting the shooting lanes, is just so impressive (something you’d see Gretzky, Forsberg, Crosby, etc). Amazing player. Great video!
I went to 4 or 5 playoff games every year and always amazed by Datsyuks abilities. I can't remember which year but prob 2014/2015 I watched Wings comeback from down 3 goals at start of 3rd to beat Phoenix and the Joe Louis Arena erupted. It was so loud and crazy I thought the concrete was gonna reach its resonance frequency and just completely crumble and collapse under the clapping, stomping and cheering. It was the loudest sporting game I have ever been to in my life. Just the typical Red Wings experience throughout those years always behind in goals in the 3rd period and then the last 2 minutes of the game they go full nonstop offense to finally score and win. Makes you wonder what they were doing the whole 1st & 2nd periods of the game just skating around for fun and not really even playing. Thats what made all their games great. The push they put on for goals in the last few minutes of the 3rd period always gets people on edge and they always score to win or tie it up in the JOE would just erupt!
Opted to start my morning with this video. I don’t think I’ve ever been moved to tears in the past from watching one single player, but he’s done it. Thank you for this compilation. This is truly a thing of beauty.

Gretzky and Lemieux played when everyone was scoring. They're the best from that era no doubt but people act like no one can ever touch them because of their numbers. People also forget that in his prime datsyuk was one of the fastest skaters in the league. Not like gaborik or grabner fast but he was in that next lowest tier. Put datsyuk up against any player ever one on one and no one comes close to matching his overall skill set. In my mind him and Crosby are the two best right now. Mcdavid is amazing and could be up there with them but I need to see more.
I've been a Flyers fan my whole life and Datsyuk is still my favorite player of all time. Nobody was more exciting to watch than him and I don't think anybody will be for a long time
There was no weakness to his game. It was ridiculous. I'm not a wings fan. And without question the best player I ever saw live was Datsyuk. His knowledge, hand strength, speed, deking, passing. Forehand backhand. He even laid the body. I remember when he shouldered chara, and chara went flying. Cbc one year did a sit down with players. When asked who their favorite current player was. They all said Datsyuk. Thats when you know you really made it. Other biased fans can say whatever they want. But when the guy who they thinks the best say Datsyuk is the best. That's rare.
The thing I like about Datsyuk is he shows that you don't need to win the Art Ross or Rocket Richard every year to be among the best in the league (not to take away how difficult it is to win those 2 awards), buy Datsyuk was probably one of the most complete players in the league. Really great video, such an amazing player and will truly be missed in the league. Definitely one of the top three most skilled players of all time. Great player and ambassador of the sport. Best of luck in Russia Pav, you'll be missed here.
Everyone talks about his hands, and for good reason, but I rarely see comments about his breakaway speed. When he got behind a defense, it was his speed that gave him the space to put the moves on and beat the goalie, and his skating and balance had as much to do with the Datsyukian dekes as his hands. There's a reason he has a move named after him, and he will live on as a hockey legend.
@@wer170 He seems to be short and weak, although he isn't, since his stand is in a stealthy manner, he slouches, so he looks on a short side. Back then, the NHL didn't like short players. Power forward was something they were after.
Interesting fact about hes skating skills - Datsyuk grown up in poor family, and hes first skates were a figure skating boots of hes 10 years older sister.
Not even a wings fan but I will say I dont know how many lifetimes it will take before the NHL sees the hands and on ice awareness that Pavel brought. Sergi was nothing to sneeze at either
One of the greatest players that will ever grace nhl! His Puck awareness and ability to see things that were developing that nobody else could and is downright footwork and vision, and my words makes him the goat! There are other players that show larger numbers and more prowess in their scoring abilities but when it comes down to Straight puck awareness and Keen sense of how the play is developing nobody has or will deliver what he has! You can take the top 10 best players in the past 10 years and put them against Pavel dad zuk one-on-one and they'll be shaking in their skates! Because they know!
It's true. I said that when Stevie Y retired and when Lidstrom retired also. Knew it wouldn't be long for Hank to follow as well. Hopefully the knew kids pick it up like Nyquist and Tatar we're supposed to but never did
Of course not.... we cant make the playoffs and the only reason Detroit remains hockey town is because so many people buy season tickets even though the arena is only about half to 2/3 full each game ever since the Magic Man left
Great video man...growing up my dad was a Wings fan back in the early 2000s...still remember watching Carolina vs Det in the finals...back when they had McCarty, Lidstrom, Yzerman. I have lots of respect for Detroit...alas I'm a caps fan myself...firstly an Ovechkin fan...following him since he was drafted and my god is Ovechkin also a generational player. I have immense respect for Datsyuk, you look around in the league, and you look at players that play the game the RIGHT way. He embodies that more than anyone else in the league by far. At least when it comes to thinking, elegance, demeanor, flair, man he's got it all. That goal he scored against SJ in game 7 of the playoffs is still one of the dirtiest things I've ever seen in sports. No business that backhand was going perfectly top shelf. No business. I couldn't even look at the screen for a min after that shot was just incomprehensible haha. People talk Crosby vs Ovechkin all the time. And I love Ovechkin to death...he's the reason why I still follow hockey. Crosby I think is really good too, and it's stupid to debate. Both different players, and I couldn't pick whichever player I wanted. But i'd rather have datsyuk than these two. No one hates pavel, and this guy can play until 45 easily. If Jagr can, Pavel can play till 45 easy. He's even go the play style to match
Is Pavel the best player ever? No. Was he the best player, not of all-time, but of the NHL players playing at that time? Not last year but a while ago, definitely. In my personal opinion, he's one of the best, if not the best player, at handling the puck and getting the job done. In my opinion, he's one of the best NHL players ever. When I think of the best, I think of Gretzky, Lemieux, Hull, Datsyuk and many others. He's of the best Detroit players ever and despite not playing for them, he's possibly the best player to be contracted with Arizona ever. Other people may not think like that, that's fine. Everyone has their own opinion, that's just mine and many other people's. But, even if you don't like him or don't think he's one of the best, you can't say he wasn't a great player and one of the best top 15 Detroit Red Wings players ever. If you said he wasn't any of those two, you'd be lying.
Miss him, both on and off the ice. Man listening to The Joe rockin' just brings tears to my eyes. We were lucky to have so many great players for so long. Detroit is Hockeytown. LGRW
I'm old enough to remember the Dead Wings, the drafting of The Captain, the playoff disappointments, and finally, the dynasty. Those were some great days.

My favorite player alltime in NHL ill still be watching his games in the KHL from the tv! Love pavel datsyuk
One of the kings. Absolute fucking force with it. Underestimated genius.
The Best!!!
It sucks that I can only like this video once because if I could I would give it a million!! Fantastic video!!
One of the BIGGEST steals EVER in the history of the NHL draft
I'm disappointed I can only like this once.
How he wasn’t ranked as in the top 10 of his draft class was mind boggling.
@@wer170 He seems to be short and weak, although he isn't, since his stand is in a stealthy manner, he slouches, so he looks on a short side. Back then, the NHL didn't like short players. Power forward was something they were after.
datsyuk and zetterberg
@@redwings1613 Michael Jordan didn't make his high school basketball team. It's as if the rejection creates diamonds in the rough.
Henri Mik
One of the greatest players that will ever grace nhl! His Puck awareness and ability to see things that were developing that nobody else could and is downright footwork and vision, and my words makes him the goat! There are other players that show larger numbers and more prowess in their scoring abilities but when it comes down to Straight puck awareness and Keen sense of how the play is developing nobody has or will deliver what he has! You can take the top 10 best players in the past 10 years and put them against Pavel dad zuk one-on-one and they'll be shaking in their skates! Because they know!
watching the wings will never ever be the same without 13
It's true. I said that when Stevie Y retired and when Lidstrom retired also. Knew it wouldn't be long for Hank to follow as well. Hopefully the knew kids pick it up like Nyquist and Tatar we're supposed to but never did
@@Migmaw we've got Larkin, Mantha, and Bertuzzi, and Fabbri. Those 4 will be amazing for years to come, assuming we don't trade Fabbri.
Of course not.... we cant make the playoffs and the only reason Detroit remains hockey town is because so many people buy season tickets even though the arena is only about half to 2/3 full each game ever since the Magic Man left
i think that pavel datsyuk is a player that you just cant hate him
Best two way forward of all time
This is literally the most epic highlight reel of all time.
Literally.
Legend!
#13!
Could you even imagine going toe to toe with a guy like this. Jesus name the man is a hockey saint
Should've been Datsyuk VS Malkin.
Lidstrom, McCarthy, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Yzerman, Shanahan, Rafalki, Osgood, Holmstrom...
Total Playstation player ...always puts a smile on my face .....those hands are off the charts.
No player has had better hands that i've seen. Not just his hands are insane, his hockey sense is Gretzky level
That Josi steal, man, that can be watched over and over again.
If you said he wasn't any of those two, you'd be lying.
favorite all time hockey player, just amazing
To watch him deke four player and score many times is amazing
Datsyuk is my favorite hockey player and I met him in person
If datsyuk’s prime was in today’s social media era he would be far less underrated
We miss you Pasha! Thanks for the memories!!!
Best hockey hands ever
Zetterberg has the most effortless job of scoring goals playing with Datsyuk lol
So long u can play 5 diff songs that's how damn good he is
Miss u forever and forever we will never frgt Datsuk the king of hands
This is the greatest video ever made .
Out of all the insane plays he has made in his career, his small frame dropping Chara was my favorite lol.
How do you judge "best"? Here is mine; for about 10 years running he would have been the first player I picked to build a team around.
Period.
Completely agree 100%
Yep
