      Not sure I like this, as the cord could get caught on something when you fall and really do some damage to your torso. At least with the normal chalk bag strap, it'd fail at the clip before it really hurt you.

    I think on most routes the rope friction is to high. The 2:1 wouldn,t work because of that. In an overhanging Environment its a smart move, but in any case I would have some gear with me.

    Very nice video man! Anyway you made me think again about the "stuck scenario" and again that this is a conditions and initial setup situation dependent. As for the Toni Kurz's legendary fatal accident on the Eiger you mention (and the known phrase "Ich kann nicht mehr"), although I've read about it I'm not yet sure where and how he exactly failed to pass that knot. If you could get some more info on this point of the story, you would (and should) make a video!

    The arborists know how to tie a Blake's hitch with the tail of rope you made, and are laughing at how easy it is. All this Kind of stuff is so easy watching from an armchair but a whole other matter if you need in real life. Everyone watching should go practice this escape at least once!

    Can also use a blakes hitch in a full ddrt or mrs system thats used by arborists. Then when you get back to the top you can tie an alpine butterfly in one end and feed the working end through for a single leg of rope then rappel down just like SRT but with your rappel device. Only issue with that is retrieving your rope once you get to the bottom. I usually carry a chalk line box when I do tree work with line in it. I can tie it to my alpine and drop it to the ground when my rope isnt long enough to retrieve after

    I love this trail of videos, always wondered what's going to happen. After seeing this I'm wondering, with that amount of slack couldn't you tie the prussik with the tail end. And use the alpine butterfly below that as your foot loop? It would help stop the knot collapsing as much if you can't capture the progress.

    • @BetaClimbers
      @BetaClimbers  3 роки тому

      I found 15 feet to be the best, that would give you enough wiggle room for more raps If needed. So that would be about 7 feet of upward progress because it’s a 2:1.

    On Unimpeachable gropping in red rock, my partner got stuck on the rap on power failure. He had himself girth hitched with two slings but when we passed the rope through the anchors to set up the rap, we accidentally passed the rope through one of this carabiners and it ultra locked his carabiner. So when he tried to get on rappel he could not get his carabiner undone. Luckily we had a butterknife with us(we used it as a nut tool because we dont have one) and were able to saw through his sling in about 20 seconds. Would be interesting to see if you had any other ideas how to get out of that situation if you didnt have a knife. My though was taking a aluminum carabiner and sharping it on the rock to cut through the sling.

    I've seen you do this a few times, where you hook into the connection-loop betwean upper and lower harnes. That loop is really not to click into. Your supose to rope through both uper an lover part of the harnes. If lower part snaps, you still hang in the upper part. If the upper part snaps, you still hang on the lower part. There is a safety reason for that two-section harnes. If that loop snaps when connect ed like that, you're gone.

    • @BetaClimbers
      @BetaClimbers  3 роки тому +1

      Are you saying hard clipping into lower and bottom and not the belay loop? The reason you should never do that is you can cross load the carabiner very easily

  • @davidmcgowan3243

    Love your videos. Interested in why the alpine butterfly and wraps thing rather than a blakes hitch which doesn't spread out like the knot you used? Also why don't you put the foot loops lower on the rope, would be much easier on your joints!

      I have young joints and I like to get higher lol 😂 sounds interesting. With my other black stiff rope I tried everything I knew, I set it up in a VT prussic style which seemed to work the best but ended up being more trouble than it was worth.

    • @skillzboard6330
      @skillzboard6330 3 роки тому

      Yup, the Blake's hitch is the more efficient way to go. It's just not well-known to rock climbers, whereas the hitch used here is a modified version of a klemheist, a friction hitch that (at least some) climbers are familiar with.

    • @BetaClimbers
      @BetaClimbers  3 роки тому +2

      @@skillzboard6330 right, the prussic jumps to the opposite line. Then you would just work your way up to the anchors you past or started from, tying back ups as you go.
