This guy is still sharp as a tack after putting his body through an untouchable marathon of modern hockey. He clearly knows how to take care of himself.
I think he meant that he knows the game better now than 15 years ago, but he was faster 15 years ago, and didn't have to battle injuries. But it's good he confesses the game develops all the time. Some people try to compare the amount of points Jagr got in the 2000's to what Gretzky got in the 70-80's. It's like comparing pears to apples. The game is so much faster, tactically smater and more professional today. At the same time, the late 90's early 2000's were harder for skilled players than the NHL is today, because they were allowed to hold and hook players back then. Jagr always had a guy or two as a "backpack".
If Wayne Gretzky never scored an NHL goal, he'd still have more points than Jagr pr Lemieux. A little food for thought. I would love to see Jagr surpass Mario, as much as I love both.
He is NOT the player he was 15 years ago.. I think he's being way too nice to the current players by saying that. He does not have the quickness or the hands he once had. Still a great player but he was off the hook back in the day and could easily still be winning scoring titles in today's NHL.
He has gotta be better than he was when NHL average skill level was lower, not talking about the superstars they can manage in every era but I bet third and fourth lines are lot better than 15-20 years ago
Well there ya go, he admits its a softer easier game to play today and it sure is. What a shame betteman ruined certain aspects of the game for sure. It was way harder to be a hockey player pre lockout for sure. You needed huge balls to play then, not so much today at all so sad
B-Mac There is no yeah but lol Yeah looks like Jagre is struggling to show us all how god you have to be. No denying the increased skill level but that is not the argument with respect to what was a better game to play. Trust me Lemuix Forseberg Messier any of the list of nhl legends of the past who have retired could easily play and do just as well in todays nhl with the composite sticks 900 skates etc. I have way more respect for old school pre lockout NHL players than I do today i dont care how much fancy skill you have. Lets see you do it like these guys did with spears in their chests and crosschecks and hacks and holds.. Way different game and what it meant to be a player. Now you have the soft pussified NHL with ticky tacky soft calls that are ridiculous. I loved the 80 lates 90s era I played in and I played through both and there is no comparison we where dumping idiots all over the place and the kids cry now if you touch them. Not to mention they dont know how to deal with the hacks and holds and clutch its like they go into shock and you can see they do not have that skillset and would get demolished by a pack of old schools with new school technology and old school rule. I blame betteman for this lol
The National Mullet Commission has ranked Jagr the 5th best mullet in human history. His hair was a work of Art. The competition was tough- 10. David Hasselhoff 9. Patrick Swayze 8. George Clooney 7. Kurt Russell 6. Brian Bosworth *5. Jaromir Jagr* 4. John Stamos 3. Billy Ray Cyrus 2. George Michael 1. Mel Gibson

If Wayne Gretzky never scored an NHL goal, he'd still have more points than Jagr pr Lemieux. A little food for thought. I would love to see Jagr surpass Mario, as much as I love both.
