Quick question, does someone know why the McLaren F1 GTR (Long Tail) and the Lotus Elise GT1 never, except in the FIA GT Championship, competed in events like the Sebring 12 Hours and Daytona 24 Hours?
I remember seeing them at Laguna Seca and I believe sears point (Sonoma ). It would vibrate the fence. Great memories of those Panoz. I could here them in the paddock and yes I was dumb and wasn’t wearing any hearing protection but damn was it worth it. I swear you could feel it in your chest.
What a fantastic race! So many cool cars. Every single car is awesome. I had no idea they raced the CanAm cars at the Daytona 24. Love the Panoz and the GT1 Porsches! Also I meant to say that Bob Varsha was the best racing commentator the US has ever had! Good job Bob!
The first time since 1974 that the 24 Hours of Daytona was not under IMSA sanction. It was not until 2014 that IMSA would sanction this great endurance classic again.
When I first watched this race i was rooting for the Mosler raptor and that huge ass engine , loved watching it dominate the Kudzu hawk WSC car early on.
indycar and sportscar racing both split after a multi year slump in the 90s, while NASCAR had its massive golden era/boom period into the early 2000s. indycar and sportscars merge when NASCAR declines in popularity between 2008 and 2014 the ebbs and flows of American motorsports. i hope LMDh/LMH convergence lasts. worked in the late 1980s, didn't it?
Thanks for sharing! I love watching classic sports car races, especially the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

I remember, the Panoz gt1's,were the only cars to make the concrete seats vibrate 15 rows up, no other car came close to the noise they produced
I recall as a young teenager the same sensation. And when they would drop into 6th gear going into Nascar Turn 4.... indescribable.
