Note: This was before they made the rule that all previous Clash winners had a lifetime invitation into the main event. It's evident because Dale Earnhardt had already won his six Clashes, despite not winning a pole in 1997.
I have a picture of me at 2 years old in a stroller, getting pushed around HERE in the infield. I'm from Daytona Beach. I could hear the track from my childhood home on days we didn't get tickets for.
This kind of broadcast is lost. Please Nascar look into the late nineties. For us demographics..... look at what made Nascar in the Nintendo 64 Era. I brought my nascar 64 nascar 2000 books on vacation for a weekend. My sister asked me questions based on it.
All the comments about Dale Earnhardt and his lack of performance. Most seem to have forgotten how uncompetitive Dale was for a good long stretch in the 90's. NASCAR was trying to phase him out but he was hard headed and stayed in the seat to long also his son coming up as a serious contender added life to Sr career. Other than Daytona and Talladega Dale ran like Dog shit for several years in the 90's . His death and the perfect rise to fame by his son made him much more popular in the end
Very first race I ever went to. Sat between the tri-oval and turn 1. What a memory! Now it's 20 years later. Hard to believe. Thanks for posting this!

How bad is the traffic on race days?
Damn Ward Burton sitting on the hood of his car while the field comes by at 200... Gotta love old school
The best Clash race of all!!!
I did not know the Qualifier was shown on TV, my grandparents had regular TV at the time, so no cable.
Good racing thanks brian
This was the 1997 car which explains why Dale was not fast in this race as his 500 car was fast.
Jimmy had his car running well on the bottom...I don't know why he ran the Taurus instead of the T-bird in the 500.
Some Ford teams did that during Speedweeks to avoid risking their new Tauruses.
Rusty's only plate win in his career?
I think so
He won an IROC race at Talladega once. Think they used plates as well.
@@19kilo241 The horsepower in the IROC cars were very low, so I highly doubt they used restrictor plates.
Rusty Wallace won a IROC race at Daytona in 1989.
Look for the dorky looking guy in the brown and white sweater after Jeff Gordon's interview... Fox's very own Bob Pockrass before he was famous!
Bob Pockrass is not famous
@@DanTroxell-fv2hmyes he is
So weird that Earnhardt didn't make the shootout
Why is this video unlisted?
The 2 new crew guy must been ones larry meant that ones came in drunk and 2 hr late and larry Said nopeee go to hauler well get someone else
Why did Petty not have the Busch decal on his cars?
It was agreed upon by Richard and his mother to not run that decal, it was a family decision.
It was a beer sponsorship and Richard wouldnt have any alcohol sponsorship on his car.
