It’s insane how this film was promoted like this in America, while in Japan it was a horrifying film.

People in Japan were just as thrilled to go see Gojira as much as people were here back then.

And yet, compared to a lot of other 50s monster movies of the era, it still manages to retain some of its solemnity, even its altered state. It had a big impact on Raymond Burr.

1954 people on Japan: This movie is terrifying! Kids definitely shouldn’t see this until they’re older!
1956 people in America: Wow! A giant monster! Lets bring the whole family to watch it!

That wasn't how the Japanese reacted to the film back then at all. Godzilla always had a substantial audience of children, even in 1954. Why else would the franchise have shifted its overall tone as soon as the immediate sequel came out 6 months later?

@@bigboi5545 WRONG, the Godzilla movie (1954) has NO APPEALS to children. The age group has always been intended for adults. No wonder this is the scariest, darkest and most depressing movie in the entire Godzilla franchise. In the 60s and 70s it really appealed to children, but Godzilla was born as a horror movie.

@@imperiodobrasilball8395 A cool monster destroying stuff has always, and will always, appeal to children, no matter what. You must also be pretty ignorant to believe horror does not appeal to children. If it didn't, the Universal Monster movies would not have been as popular as they were with the youth of decades past, and video games like Five Nights at Freddy's wouldn't be as popular as they are with the youth of today.

I like how in some parts it sounds like the two narrators are trying to out compete each other with creative descriptions and phrases lmao

I like the visuals, but since these are supposed to be radio ads, wouldn't pictures of 1950's car or house radios been more authentic?

I don't understand why they dubbed in the hocking a spit sound for the atomic breath. Or was that you?
