This is the first time a coach has shown this move in the down swing. It really does make sense. And simple, but as you mentioned in another video of yours , that most of these moves need to be practiced over &over& over again. Thanks Julian for that. I will be doing it over and over again. Can’t wait to try it
I watched your video [SIMPLIFYING THE MOVEMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SWING, SENIOR SPECIALIST] over 1000 times in 4 years. Finally, I got to know golf swing recently. Thank you from South Korea.
"Great video! The breakdown of the golf backswing was clear and easy to follow. I loved how you explained each step in detail. The slow-motion shots really helped to visualize the technique, and your tips on maintaining the rhythm were super helpful. This will definitely improve my swing-thanks!"
Excellent job on explaining the proper downswing Julian! I like both your "down, around, and through" thought as well as the split hand drill to practice it. I use the "split hand" drill a lot for the full swing as well as for chipping! Good Job Julian! Keep up the good work! I'm slowly working my way through your library!
Hi john, Thanks for your feedback and I’m pleased that you’re getting through the library section. Remember I’m always here to help if you need it. Regards, Julian
Excellent follow up to the proper backswing video you gave us a short while ago. Now all we have to do is to incorporate the lessons into our practice. Thanks again Julian.👍🇨🇦👨🦳
Excellent Julian. I found that focussing my speed at the bottom of the swing and through the ball has almost rid me of the dreaded over the top. I feel like I have heaps of time to get the club down before applying a bit of speed rather than trying to muscle the club from the top.
The tilt only works when one manages to be quite open at impact in order to get the clubface square. But this is what I and probably many others don’t succeed to do. Still, in my first lesson since long the pro insisted on a swing like the pros have although I told him about my health restrictions. So thank you again. I restarted and will need time and many repetitions. Therefore the ease on my lower back is even more relevant. My next lesson will be with you. Best, Peter
Hi Julian I agree no one should use both shoulders to swing a golf club. Maybe to swing an ax while their splitting wood; but definitely not while they swing their club. Having said this I do use my trail shoulder to pivot my entire body through as my club head impacts my ball. Hogan wrote in his 5 lesson that the hands and arm must not be controlled by the golfer himself until the shaft of the club is swinging on it’s specific plane where the club head meets the ball. Pushing my trail shoulder towards my target area makes Hogan chain reaction automatically happen in my own swing. It works because all the great golfer needs to initially swing over the top of their backswing to immediately shallow their club in order for their trail elbow to be tucked in front of their trail hip as opposed to being stuck behind their trail hip at the bottom of their club swing shaft plane were their club head must make pure contact with the ball. Hope you give it a try for yourself and tell me I am wrong or right. It really is a body friendly swing. Cheers ❤️👍😃⛳️🥂
@@JulianMellor excellent Julian. Not exactly prime golfing weather at the moment but we try. Always great to have some things to work at through the winter months. Keep up the good work and I am sure you are beginning to reap the rewards you so richly deserve. Fantastic content and put in such a way that we can all understand.
Tried your teachings and was reasonably happy with the results on my first round of golf with this method. My miss was getting cramped up with my hands and arms in the downswing sometimes forcing me to almost reverse away from the ball with my torso I think the issue is what starts the downswing sequence ie my hips or my arms or do they work together ??
Hi Michael, starting with your arms first would be my preference, this enables you to hit the inside of the ball and creates more room on the way down.
Such a good couching Julian! One question for you: Can you please let me know what's the check point to end the 'Down Move'?Should the Down Move stop when the club is parallel with ground? It's really easy to hit the gournd when I tried the Down Move. thank you!
This explains a lot. When I was at the range doing the "dance" I was trying to turn my hips and shoulders trying to copy the feeling I had when I was practicing the dance move. I was pulling everything or slicing, and I never slice. I will give this a try because just turning right then left was not working. When I was watching Brian's old videos in slow motion I realized a few things. 1) at impact his hips are hardly "open" almost square. 2.) his hands are sooo close to this thigh at setup and even closer at impact. I swear you could a put piece of paper in between. 3.) a fraction after impact the toe of the club was pointing at the ball like it closed rapidly. Wanted to get your comments on that. I would encourage you to add that down, around, through piece to the "do" list. and put the dont turn your hips and shoulders at the start of the downswing on the deadly don't list. Brian will be missed he seemed like a great man but he lives on in people who were inspired by him. You are doing an amazing job carrying out his legacy. Joe
That’s really kind words, thank you Joe. Some interesting takes on what you have observed. What happens through experience is when you suggest things to golfers it then gets labelled as a position where in reality it’s a movement. Peoples hips turn at different speeds so if I say do this or that it can get misinterpreted. Releasing the club head is an important part of the swing for sure. I see a lot of golfers leave the face open at impact. Brian was a big believer in not holding the club face to target through impact but rather let it rotate naturally. As you say there are things that you have picked up on which are important but it’s also important to apply the principles and allow your body to work naturally rather than create false movements. I’d be very interested to see how you swing the club so feel free to send me a video anytime. Warmest Regards Julian
your hands crossed over after impact... as the release... can you do a video about that. you say around but you don't mention them crossing over ....right hand over left hand. love your videos
Bid problem with my driver. As I watch your beautiful swing I notice that your elbow stays close to your body but not tucked in tight. Am I making a mistake by tucking my elbow tight to my body and turning through while pulling the club. When I can slow tempo and tuck the elbow the results are amazing including holding the finish. If it takes a thousand practice swings to make a change for most , not me I am on my way to two thousand. I will watch your swing over and over and then Freddy Couples for awhile. So smooth. Simple . Thanks
Julian, do you initiate the downswing actual pulling down with your arms and then the body or both together? Many instruction videos say to start the downswing with the hips and lower body and let the arms follow?
Check out this other video I have made ua-cam.com/video/eKBvNQjmdeM/v-deo.html Also worth watching this video too. Pete is one of the worlds best coaches ua-cam.com/video/gXxNoMZ-65U/v-deo.html
It’s only fair to say that we amateurs that are coming from outside in turn our shoulders very slightly but enough to kill the swing with pulls or slices; funny enough we don’t see ourselves doing it so as you suggest a video or a friend standing behind you can help. Thanks
Thanks for your message. We always try to help golfers in a simplistic way. The modern way of swinging the club is incredibly powerful but unrealistic for the average golfer to achieve as it requires a lot of time in the gym to maintain it. It’s important that amateurs learn to manage their swings to reduce the amount of poor shots and improve their short game to lower their scores.
Hello Julian I hope you are well Tnx very much for your video Does the right elbow have to be in any specific position Tnx Regds Arnie from South Africa
When you say the arms are working down you just mean that they are falling naturally and not being pulled down correct? Because that would be another fault if you actually pulled down.
Julian can I ask a comparable question and I am not in anyway belittling your swing method but rather trying to ascertain as to which method would give me more power and distance in the golf swing: To swing faster with your method and hopefully gain distance, would you not have to drop your arms faster toward the ground before rotating faster, thereby the initial force would be vertically down as opposed to moving that force toward the target? When you look at the pro’s such as Tommy Fleetwood for example, he doesn’t drop his arms first as you mention which requires correct timing of dropping the arms and rotating but rather he pulls hard from the top with his arms and body in sync but uses a lot of side bend and rotation to bring the club back on line with the forces moving toward the target. Your thoughts please.
Hi Robert, the modern swing as I like to call it requires a lot of strength, fitness, timing, work commitment and if you’re luck no injuries. Yes it works we can all see that but at what cost to health. Have a look at Pete Cowen one of the worlds top coaches ua-cam.com/video/gXxNoMZ-65U/v-deo.html simple explanation that works a treat.

As long as the first movement feels down then swing the club head freely. Before hip height 😀

Hi, how does this „ down „ move with the arms combine with the idea that you have to start your downswing with your lower Body?
Starting the downswing with the lower body first takes a lot of coordination, a lot of golfers get it wrong. The way I suggest is much more repeatable
@@JulianMellor so you do not advise to bring in your lower Body at all at the beginning? Only in the second phase while turning?
Yes
Do you fell yo have push or pull downswing
Push, always
So when you start down, you open your hips a little at the same time ?
Yes 👍
A tip I've used in the past was to whistle during your swing. If you swing hard you'll lose the tone and you'll hear the change. Try it!
I like it
