Stannis was one of my favorites, but we all know that Mel is wrong about him being TPTWP. I don't know what the books have in store for Stannis , but somehow, some way he is going to have to get out of the way so Jon Snow can become who he is meant to be. And there is a chance that Stannis is already dead in the books, but we just haven't gotten to that chapter yet (if Ramsay's letter to Jon is true).
I want to see Stannis take the Iron Throne, if only to hear 1:51 play as he walks up to the throne and sits down to see everyone in the throne room bowing down to him as we dolly back and out the doors of the throne room and fade to black. End of episode... Man, that would be epic!

Hoeru Stannis marches south leaving the women in the protection of Snow. At first only the Karstarks declare for Stannis, most of the northern houses have people taken hostages by Walder Frey after the Red Wedding. Jon advises Stannis to take Deepwood Motte from the Greyjoys to show the North that he cares. He takes it and takes Theon and Theon's sister hostages. Then the banker Tycho shows up and gives him money. House Umber is divided in two factions, Hother Whoresbane is on the Bolton's side because Greatjon Umber is still Walder Frey's hostage. Mors Crowfood declares for Stannis because he hates the Boltons. The Manderlys seem to not care for Stannis, so Stannis sends Davos to negotiate. Wyman Manderly will help Stannis only if Davos finds Rickon. Manderly gives Davos a fake execution to show fake loyalty to the Boltons. Stannis also rounds up the Mountain clans, the ones that hold Tyrion hostage in season 1, because the clans love Ned Stark. Hosteen Frey leads Roose Bolton's vanguard but Stannis is confident because he is going to set a trap, and he knows that Hosteen is impatient and stupid. And he tells his man Justin Massey to go to Essos to get him enough troops till he is 20 thousand strong, and should he die fighting for Winterfell, Justin shall use the sellswords to seat Shireen on the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, there are mysterious murders of the Boltons, and the northern houses are already plotting treachery against the Boltons. There are signs that Manderly slaughtered the Frey soldiers and bake them into pies, namely the Frey pies.

Stannis/Stephen Dillane was my favorite part to watch during Game of Thrones. So much despair and things kept going in the wrong direction with every step he took, but he kept fighting to be a fierce leader. The part when he draws his sword before attacking Winterfell was such a badass moment/resolve.

Poor Stannis ended up in a similar situation that Rhaenyra Targaryen ended up in during the Targaryen civil war, 'the Dance of Dragons'. The true heir to the Iron Throne stuck with Dragonstone and its rather limited resources and vassals. Plus, the people on the mainland deciding to be treacherous and greedy, and they choose a king that is not the true heir to the throne for various reasons over them.

Not sure if I read it in the books or not, its been years, but I remember Stannis being a metaphor for iron, tough and strong but inflexible and prone to breaking due to its toughness. Stannis was a great character in the show and the books, misunderstood for the most part but with many flaws. Still a man of duty.

The thing is, he was basically relieved to die in battle. He's Theoden, he's the submerged soul of modern man. Bored, cheated and unfulfilled, knowing he must strike out but also aware of likely defeat - yet, at this point, almost yearning for such a noble end.

So you have Balon who's a glorified pirate king, you have Renly who declares himself king because it would be fun, Stannis who burns people he doesn't like in the name of his religion, Joffrey who's just a petty tyrant and Dany who crucifies slavers with her slave army because slavers who crucify people are bad... so Robb was the only king worth following and he lost everything because he couldn't keep it in his pants. Westeros sure has crappy leaders.
Stannis did it to appease Melissandre. He's not a fool king, and throughout the book series he's depicted as a stern, strong leader. And I have to say that having Melissandre at his side is one of his biggest assets, as it is shown that she's not a trickster. She wanted Ser Davos dead, but she herself is the one who spares him in the end, saying that her god wants him alive. All in all, that makes that, added to Stannis' prowess in battle, his sense for strategy and war and the respect and authority he instills, we have Ser Davos' compassionate heart, his quick-thinking and wit (and he knows that sometimes, the right thing and the lawful thing to do are not the same), and we have Melissandre, who's truly blessed by her god (just like Thoros), and her knowledge and foresight make her an excellent asset in knowing what will happen. All in all, Stannis is the best king in my opinion.
The one true king. The king who cared. It's a real shame the show had to BUTCHER his character to give Daenaery Sue more screen time. You are gone from our lives Stannis, but your memory will live on forever in the hearts of those loyal to the realm.
The Stannis fanbase comes from the ASOIAF novels, yes. But I saw some show-only fans of Stannis. Problem is, you have a better time as a Stannis supporter reading the books, since the show poorly portrays him.

Stannis was one of my favorites, but we all know that Mel is wrong about him being TPTWP. I don't know what the books have in store for Stannis , but somehow, some way he is going to have to get out of the way so Jon Snow can become who he is meant to be. And there is a chance that Stannis is already dead in the books, but we just haven't gotten to that chapter yet (if Ramsay's letter to Jon is true).

Hoeru Stannis marches south leaving the women in the protection of Snow. At first only the Karstarks declare for Stannis, most of the northern houses have people taken hostages by Walder Frey after the Red Wedding. Jon advises Stannis to take Deepwood Motte from the Greyjoys to show the North that he cares. He takes it and takes Theon and Theon's sister hostages. Then the banker Tycho shows up and gives him money. House Umber is divided in two factions, Hother Whoresbane is on the Bolton's side because Greatjon Umber is still Walder Frey's hostage. Mors Crowfood declares for Stannis because he hates the Boltons. The Manderlys seem to not care for Stannis, so Stannis sends Davos to negotiate. Wyman Manderly will help Stannis only if Davos finds Rickon. Manderly gives Davos a fake execution to show fake loyalty to the Boltons. Stannis also rounds up the Mountain clans, the ones that hold Tyrion hostage in season 1, because the clans love Ned Stark. Hosteen Frey leads Roose Bolton's vanguard but Stannis is confident because he is going to set a trap, and he knows that Hosteen is impatient and stupid. And he tells his man Justin Massey to go to Essos to get him enough troops till he is 20 thousand strong, and should he die fighting for Winterfell, Justin shall use the sellswords to seat Shireen on the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, there are mysterious murders of the Boltons, and the northern houses are already plotting treachery against the Boltons. There are signs that Manderly slaughtered the Frey soldiers and bake them into pies, namely the Frey pies.

Stannis/Stephen Dillane was my favorite part to watch during Game of Thrones. So much despair and things kept going in the wrong direction with every step he took, but he kept fighting to be a fierce leader. The part when he draws his sword before attacking Winterfell was such a badass moment/resolve.

Poor Stannis ended up in a similar situation that Rhaenyra Targaryen ended up in during the Targaryen civil war, 'the Dance of Dragons'. The true heir to the Iron Throne stuck with Dragonstone and its rather limited resources and vassals. Plus, the people on the mainland deciding to be treacherous and greedy, and they choose a king that is not the true heir to the throne for various reasons over them.
Didn't really care about Stannis that much before, but in the last episode he was so badass!

Not sure if I read it in the books or not, its been years, but I remember Stannis being a metaphor for iron, tough and strong but inflexible and prone to breaking due to its toughness. Stannis was a great character in the show and the books, misunderstood for the most part but with many flaws. Still a man of duty.

The thing is, he was basically relieved to die in battle. He's Theoden, he's the submerged soul of modern man. Bored, cheated and unfulfilled, knowing he must strike out but also aware of likely defeat - yet, at this point, almost yearning for such a noble end.

Even though he did some pretty terrible shit, he was one of my favorite characters.
So you have Balon who's a glorified pirate king, you have Renly who declares himself king because it would be fun, Stannis who burns people he doesn't like in the name of his religion, Joffrey who's just a petty tyrant and Dany who crucifies slavers with her slave army because slavers who crucify people are bad... so Robb was the only king worth following and he lost everything because he couldn't keep it in his pants. Westeros sure has crappy leaders.

Stannis did it to appease Melissandre. He's not a fool king, and throughout the book series he's depicted as a stern, strong leader. And I have to say that having Melissandre at his side is one of his biggest assets, as it is shown that she's not a trickster. She wanted Ser Davos dead, but she herself is the one who spares him in the end, saying that her god wants him alive. All in all, that makes that, added to Stannis' prowess in battle, his sense for strategy and war and the respect and authority he instills, we have Ser Davos' compassionate heart, his quick-thinking and wit (and he knows that sometimes, the right thing and the lawful thing to do are not the same), and we have Melissandre, who's truly blessed by her god (just like Thoros), and her knowledge and foresight make her an excellent asset in knowing what will happen. All in all, Stannis is the best king in my opinion.
