there was a similar case, and guys who took the wrong direction appealed and they compensated cos they lost the race.
it wasn't the athletes fault they went the wrong way it was not clear at all where they were meant to go

This marathon is always so slow in comparison to the other big ones. No one wants to see someone win a non marathon major in a time over 2:10.
