This decade of music, we called the 80s, was the soundtrack to my youth. I grew up with all of this incredible music. I usually played only R&B stations, as that’s where all the really good music was at. And I did not watch American bandstand, I watched soul train. This song was played on R&B radio. Like I said, all of the great music was on R&B stations. And on Saturday nights, they would have mixes, they called them, ‘hot mixes’, and they were the 12 inch extended versions of all of the top songs of the day, seamlessly mixed together by a team of five DJs we called the hot mix five. WBMX Chicago had a dance, and soul station at 102.7. I will never forget it. I was always going to the record stores asking for the songs they played on the station. Also, it’s when I first heard, who would turn out to be an idol of mine, ralphi, Rosario. He went on to become pretty famous as a remix artist, doing remixes for Mariah Carey, Madonna, Donna Summer, and so many more big names in music .And they also premiered hot house records on Saturday night. My friends and I used to sit in the park with a boom box jamming out to all the music. Status IV, “You ain’t really down” first choice,”Let no man put asunder” Mtume, “Juicyfruit” Madonna was such a genius for asking her record label for Reggie Lucas to produce her first album. He had done work with James Mtume, and Stephanie Mills. As you can hear now, he was an extraordinary, funk and soul producer. Wow, it’s been over 35 years, I can’t believe it. Where did all the time go?❤🎉😊😅
I wasn't really a fan of the original version when it first came out but when I heard this mix on the radio, I couldn't get to the record store fast enough! I still have this vinyl.
Damn. The last time I heard this on the original WQHT(HOt 103.5 FM),I was right in the middle of my high school days. Really worth listening to 27 years later.
@@paynec076 I did watch it now I see what happened to them their manager rip them off a lot of groups from the 80's went through this music industry is the most shadest
Tanya Kelly Your right. The Music business is filled with "Ripped-off" Artists & Groups. Those contracts are drawn up to benefit the Record Company, then the Management contract is another beast. Talented people getting mistreated by "Representation".
Reminds me of my first year in college in my first car Volvo 244GL....saturday evening after barber working on my flat top, had my 40oz old english in brown paper while waxing my car and about to start, sipping on E&J, jamming heading to Legends, a club in Detroit.......my good old days...real music, real friends, real women.
Remember, had a cassette with this lovely sound track and others like Bad Girls from Radioramma, and many more. If anyone can help me name of the album. I used to rewind this track to listen again and again., in my childhood days.
Now we truly grasp what it means for something to increase four times. And for something to now to be completely outdated (still useful yet outdated) and be four times less. A house = $50,000 (then) versus $350,000 (now). A car = $7000 then (brand new!) versus $18,000 (now). Minimum wage then = $4-5 hour (then) versus $7-9hr (now). When teenagers had the McDonald's jobs, not the grown up adults! ......something seems terribly wrong here doesn't it?
I was a junior in High School when this song came out. My first job paid less than $2.90 an hour. We moved right at that time to Portland (OR) and our house cost in the neighborhood of $100k for 4 bed 2 bath. and I just bought a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup for $65,000 (which is far from the $300 CASH I paid for my first car a USED 1976 Chevy Nova).
Still 2024 a big part of my growing up years in the Philiplines just 10 on that year..loved it here now in my 40s..👍💖🙏🏼😋💿🇵🇭
Got it🙏 Fantastic Track extented version 👍🤪
2024- still a fresh song!! JETS are amazing ❤❤
