So great to hear what John Feldman has been up to! He once bought me a shirt at the merch store next to the Metro in Chicago. I went to see Goldfinger with No Doubt in 1996 and was looking at straightedge t-shirts before the show. "You straightedge?" someone said behind me, and it was John! "This one's cool - if you want it, I'll buy it for you" - and he did! Such a nice gesture for some little punk kid. Kept that shirt until it literally fell apart. 😀
I hope Jason gets many more career opportunities. He seems very honest and open to feedback and growth. He interviews people that may arguably have a lot of success and sometimes puts himself down but I think he’s gained so much growth in just being a good human.
That's been his M.O. for the past 15 years, ever since his Sirius show. I thought the same thing when I first heard of him. But then I realized it's all he talks about.
🎶So here I am/ Doing everything I can/ Holding on to what I am/ Pretending I'm a Superman/🎶 I love the song so much because of THPS1. I'm 35 going on 36 and I consider it my longboarding/skateboarding anthem.
I think that Jason is the best fit for the X-Games vert announcer. There are tons of fans out there who know him in that niche and it would be a nostalgia trip. The young and new and upcoming skaters and fans would be introduced to this great thing through him. He gets you wanting to do the damn thing. Another great interview. I never knew John Feldman had his goldfinger lol in so many pies . Musical wise. Thank you for your contribution to music and to skating .
You know it’s a new week when you see HvW, which means it’s a better start to Monday than most get. Thanks for the great content guys. Love the new graphics on both this and Jason’s pod, especially the intro on here. When Tony pumps his fist in the air and I think the music peaks 🥰… just really well done. I’m curious who the firm is, I don’t see many that do it right 👌🏻
Saw BHG at the garage In Glasgow 2000. Didn’t know who goldfinger were, but the second that ‘ superman ‘ drum fill hit, me n ma mates looked at each other and went holy fuck, tony hawks pro skater tune! And dived into the pit. Takes me back every time a hear it! Also get && on the show! Boy is a living THPS character
I tried finding a list of albums he produced on Wikipedia, but it just mentions a handful. Did he produce a lot of punk rock bands back in the day? Or maybe you're just talking about Goldfinger. Yeah, that's probably. Never mind! Unless he did, I don't know.
I'm a big podcast junkie in the car but this is so much better with video; Jason's reactions really make some of these episodes. So painful sometimes being in the car knowing this episode is sitting there but knowing I'll enjoy it more watching here.
I’m a voice coach, and for sure, if you’re drinking a lot of caffeine, the acid reflux is such a pain. It’s refreshing to hear someone talking about vocal health on Tony Hawks podcast of all places lol.
THPS1 soundtrack really catapulted my musical tastes that have stuck with me since it's release. I was 6 or 7 when that game came out, had it on PS1, and the soundtrack had so much great stuff. Primus, goldfinger, the Vandals etc
Feldy definitely doesn’t remember me but when I first moved to La in 2016 he was very kind to me and I’ve always been super grateful to have met him and spend some time with him. Pumped he’s on the pod.
At least from my poppunk/emo ears, a big tell of a Feldmann production is the snare sound. Been there since maybe memories. I really like that he talks about the pop music songwriting rules. Loved this interview/sit down.
13:20 It's a bit ignorant to suggest a bad isn't passionate about the live show and what they're doing if they aren't running around on stage and jumping around as hard as you can. It's just individuality and personality driven. I think confidence is also a factor with some frontmen. In some bands I've seen a correlation between vocal quality and how they act on stage. I'm a fan of Feldy but I feel like he's one of them. His vocals aren't great so he tries to overcompensate by jumping around on stage and being physically dramatic. Distracting you from the vocals that aren't great.
Great interview! He’s such an icon as far as both a musician / producer and more. I can’t believe all the bands he produced and the Used story is cool. Interesting fact is that his dad was partially paralyzed from Polio and he writes his biggest son “Superman” and we all know the Reeves story. Maybe it’s a connection or symbolism you didn’t point out or notice. I hate to plug my guitar mod but if you read this comment I’d be honored to send you 1 to demo and see if it can enhance your future studio recordings. He said he knows within 15-30 sec if he’s down to work with somebody. I can prove concept in that time with side by side comparisons. No worries I’ll send you a DM so Look Out for it like OPIV record label. Ha Speaking of OPIV might wanna interview those guys if you can. Legendary punk / ska core if not most imo setting the bar with that style.
Foxxy Shazam, yes! I have been showing this band to soo many people over the years and the singer out of knowwhere was on A macklemore song and I was like yes! now this band should get more praise, but it really hasn't happened yet.
I saw goldfinger in the 90s with the sex pistols and gravity kills in LA..great show...goldfinger is an awesome live band...and the crowd was being lame to them..i was like wtf...he even talked shit to the crowd...goodtimes...
Is there a consensus that Surfing is perhaps the pinnacle of this lifestyle? It's somewhat mythical still IMO and Skateboarding is directly influenced by. And then Snowboarding comes in last? 😂
Dope episode. Classic stories. Had never even heard of this dude. Funny to me this made me remember back in early to mid 80s I got monkey boots, creepers, and docs at that nana (not all at once lol) - 😜 I don't remember ever hearing that song though I must have at some point? haha - Anyway to listen to any of those Eliis radio shows now?
I’m a crap gamer, but loved Tony Hawk games. I had the OG TonyHawk on Dreamcast and playing the remakes on my switch. Which part of the game is there a Goldfinger video? Would love to find it!
It's even worse with the N64 versions of the games since they're confined to a smaller-capacity cartridge and thus "Superman" and the rest would have to be bitcrushed and truncated to just a minute or so. It's theoretically possible to go on the same route as Angel Studios did with Resident Evil 2 where they somehow squeezed the entire game into just 64MB, FMV cutscenes and all, but back in the day memory is more expensive by the byte unless you go with a cheap plastic disc coated with aluminium, and Activision probably wasn't willing to order higher-capacity cartridges from Nintendo. I wonder what Tony thinks about the N-Gage version, and also the fan games and mods based on the series.
Was just talking the other day how we would but whole CDs just to get one or two tracks. And how walkmans would skip and you had to hold them perfectly level haha. If you had given me an iPhone back then my brain literally would’ve melted. Even an iPhone 4 haha
First time doin mushrooms back late 90s at Goldfinger in Lincoln NE (pre Tony Hawk Pro Skater you and bloodhound gang were my favorites next to sublime) and ate too many. All I remember is the bass on my chest and the lights. Ended up in the bathroom, threw up and then sat next to the toilet. Next thing I know there are 3 guys at he door of the stall talking about how they should kick my ass. Only later found out the lead singer of another band that night was puking in the toilet I was sitting next to and the guys at the door were his bands talking about kicking his ass, not mine. One hell of a night!! Hope your girlfriend's shower is better now days.
Feldy, not a fan of Disturbed. Noted 😆 Hearing Superman always takes me back to being a little kid discovering the magic of THPS on the N64 and PS1. Legendary song, legendary band 🤘🏻
Was looking for someone who noticed this too. The fact that he was insinuating that bands like Foxy Shazam could have "been more known" based on his input was...quite the claim. Huge ego on this guy.
Jason always thinks he is Billy Bad Ass, that he can wax anyone. There are no rules outside of an organized ring or your gym. Be careful thinking you can starch anyone bc it will backfire on you.
Lolol if you hear more of his origin story, I think perhaps it'd shift your perspective~ his competitive fighting is more recent. From what I gather, growing up in Australia, he was quite a scrapper, and I imagine he absolutely retained those instincts~
So great to hear what John Feldman has been up to!

Yeah man, I had no idea but I’m grateful to listen to him. Superman was always on repeat while we played THPS this was great

Imma go play tony hawk 1 and 2 on ps4 tonight...YEAH !!!!!! Fun..
I love this guy. Superman and Spokesmen are two of my favorites plus he helped allow The Used to get discovered
I saw goldfinger on the second warped tour and loved their energy. It was awesome to see them on the first thps game!
Absolutelty awesome choice. Such great dude with the greatest punk rock success story.

These are great stories. "Superman" is a staple on my skate playlist.
man, superman was my FaVOURITE song when I was 5 years old playing THPS on my PS1.
Jason can't catch a break lately "oh, do you still skate?
I was fully expecting the video of Tony singing to be the end of the video.
