- For no obvious reason, my ability to taste pipe tobacco returns as mysteriously as it left. The phenomenon is apparently not as uncommon as I thought. I try to explain the experience and just wind up rambling incoherently. When you've been out of the saddle for a while it leaves you a little rusty.

Your explaination was far more eloquent than you might imagine. Stay well.
@@HNXMedia Thank you kindly!
I feel your pain and frustration, my brother The Novice Piper. Thanks for your honesty (sincere & candid). We all need to 'Stop, and smells the Roses,' from time to time. For me, smoking a tobacco pipe has not been very satisfying to my 5 senses, especially my ability to smell the blend I'm tasting. For me, it is less about what I'm smoking, amd more about how I'm burning the tobacco. When I narrow my focus to the smoke (fire + fuel + air), satisfaction is guaranteed!
@@honuhalawahalepule653 Everything about pipe smoking teaches me to slow down and be in the moment. It's not an easy lesson to learn. To me, piping is unique in that it rewards you immediately when you try to practice delaying gratification. There's something interesting about that.
I hear you. I got into smoking for both the enjoyment of the aroma and the contemplation enhancement it provokes. Yet the newness of it started a compulsion that really served to take away the purpose of why I began. I’m 3 months in and have 9 briars, 5 cobs, and 40 blends! Toward the end of June I told myself “This can’t continue!” So now a I’ve limited myself to one pipe a month. I’ve also determined to spend some time with the blends I have and try to figure out what type I prefer. I already have some leanings but want to continue to try smoking the same blend multiple times and in different pipes.
@@PiperCalvinist That's it exactly! There's a happy place between "going ham" and taking a methodical approach. I'm constantly amazed by the deeper lessons this pastime offers. I'm starting to spend a lot more time studying blends instead of just sampling them.
Thank you for sharing this. I can't express it properly without going into personal mushroom trips, but your explanation and insights really resonates with me and made me stop and think about how I smoke my own pipe.
@@BoxelGames You're welcome, and thank you for leaving this comment! My closest reference points for pipe smoking are cigarette use and other drug uses... I don't say it a lot but I'm constantly stunned by the similarities between insights revealed by pipe tobacco and insights given by psychedlic/pyschotropic substances. It's super cool to hear someone else hint at the same thing. Happy bowls, brother.
Happy to see your back & that is one nice pipe too, enjoy your channel!🤠
@@darrylthehorntoadpiper Thank you very much. There's a video called " The Bottom of the Burl: A Closer Look at Samuel" wherein I talk at length about that pipe. You may like it.
Really enjoyed your reflection. Glad you are well my friend
@@SmokingCardboard Thanks, man. Good to have that spell in the rearview!
Glad the cardboard taste went away, “Latakia blindness” wow never heard of that, well I have been told playing with it too much will make it fall off lol 🤙
Nothing better than a great pipe.
@@paulgilson2011 Had a bowl of latakia this morning and it was divine.
Good Evening 😊 Beautiful Pipe 😍 Lovely Tobacco 😋 Glad You Enjoying Your Smokes 🌬💨💨 After The Cardboard Fiasco 😂🤣 I Have a Tin of Capstan Blue which I need To Try 😉 Thanks For The Chat and Sharing a Pipe With Me 🌬💨💨 Have a Blessed Day & God Bless You 🙏🏽 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
@@yusufsayed1583 Good evening, Yusuf! Hope all is well on your end.
What you went through has happened to me. I threw my taste buds out of wack due to hoarding all these different blends. I never gave my palate a chance to absorb all the subtle notes in the different tobacco’s. When I couldn’t pick out a certain note I would be upset because in the reviews I was expecting hay , bread and cinnamon and I unfortunately didn’t taste that..I then would try another blend and the misery would continue..We have to give our palates a chance to adjust to the tobacco.. I have 25 mason jars of blends that I never gave my palate a chance to like and now since I’m retired I am smoking a jar each month and what a difference slowing down can make…Out of all my premium tobacco’s Velvet is my to go tobacco..Try adding a little unflavored black cavendish to a blend that is boring and you will see the difference…especially Prince Albert…. Keep on smoking!!!
@@Frugalphilly I'm going to give Velvet a try before long, very curious about that one. @sawgunner68 said something similar to what you've said here, that he used Prince Albert to reset his palate by just sitting still with it. I'm glad you got your tastes back as well, and I believe after this experience I'll be less ravenous from now on.
Capstan blue cures my headaches. It’s truly a medicinal blend for me. And this video here: what a beautiful message. Glad u got ur taste back. Maybe it was the ghost of Jerry Lewis?! Either way take care, mein freund.
@@mushroomleg You know, I hadn't thought about it but you're probably onto something with that Jerry Lee theory! I'll have to try the Blue for headaches. It's a great after-work smoke for me. Something about that tang just clears the head. (Hey, shoot me an email with your contact info if you don't mind...I got something for ya. Isaac@haleyeahcontent.com)
Well I don't know what to say to you. I was thinking while you described your journey about this, tribulation worketh Patience and patience, experience and experience hope. Glad to hear from you and I am glad you are doing better.
Thank you sir! Pipe tobacco isn't what really matters in the world, but those words are a very accurate description of what it felt like, haha
Happy to see ya! 😊
Yea, over stimulation in any sense can, and usually does in my case, lead nowhere positive. Moderation is the name of the game called life to me.
Anyways, happy to hear your voice here, as I'm sure many are.
Have a wonderful week!
Take it easy. Easy not meant _easy_ , but moreso moderately if held to a literal sense.😊👍💨💨
@@jespiping Man I'm always surprised at how often this activity drives home the easy pace. Good to hear from you, Jes!
I feel ya! I can understand what you’re saying. It’s happened a couple times to me. It sucks. But after a day or two reset it’s usually fine. Not sure myself where it comes from. Maybe some of what you mentioned or higher nicotine levels in certain blends you try, or just an off day 🤷 happy it work through for you, great chat, I’m glad you’re back!👍😊
@@GenXPiper Feels good to be back, man! I kept buying blends that were one-time-buy opporunities so now I have a buffet of them waiting to try. Found a couple big winners already. That part's good, but it's been a super weird experience I wouldn't wish on any other piper.
Good to see you're back at it and able to taste the tobacco once more. Hopefully, it never occurs again.
@@HermitWays Here's crossing my fingers. It was not fun, lol
Welcome back and happy tasting!
