People wanna look at the 1980s and hate on that decade 24/7. The 1980s was a decade were pop-culture exploded, and it was an amazing decade. I wish I was older in 1980s, because I'd appreciate the decade a lot more. Thank God for UA-cam, so I can appreciate all the greatness. 🙂
You can very much tell that Annie Golden has a background in musical theatre. She has such presence, physicality, and an ability to move from 'scene' to 'scene' smoothly.
An underrated gem of a song. Golden actually had a better voice than most acts at the time. I first heard this on WLIR when the movie was out. No other station played this.
I miss retro girl culture. The hair flip. The hearts for dots on letters. The locking diaries. Chicks used to be some much more charming. All the dance moves in the video remind me of my distant long lost youth
Next time I watch sixteen candles, I'm going to keep my ears open for this song. Can't place it. What brought me to it now is that two friends of mine just watched Annie Golden in concert in New York Cityt on 16 June, 2019.
Thank you,@@danmueller1451. I should be able to find it when I next watch the film. Considering my addictive personality, I've already watched it at least once for each of the last 35 years it has been out, and I will probably watch it 35 more times.
One of those songs of which I can easily forget the words and the tune, but not the title and artist. Every 10 to 12 years I get the urge to hear it again.
Was thinking about great songs regarding the telephone, and this popped into my head. I don't think I've heard it for 25 years. What a cobweb to grab. Goes good with "Walking on Sunshine".
I don't watch "Orange"....had no idea about her being on there. I just remember being 9 years old , at the time and loved Valley Girls in day glo, sooo....yeah! Still listening Jan 1, 2020 January 1, 2020
NOOOOO WTF...How the hell did I miss that...I loved her in HAIR...Im getting tested for Dementia...How did I not know that??????????????????????????????
I wonder if her friends are ticked that they went through all this trouble, even invited Howie and Barb, and when she gets to her surprise party she ignores everyone except her preppy boyfriend.
There's a last scene to this video that was cut - Godzilla broke out of the top of the cake they're standing on, holding sparklers, and ate all of the people at the party.
Well she played CBGB in the 70’s and appeared in Hair in 1979 then played more than 60 more roles in films and tv, has been on Broadway in a bunch of shows, and she’s still going strong.

I think it's playing when the "geeks" show up to the party and Long Duk Dong opens the door.
Thank you @@jenniferharper3158. I have figured that out from additional viewings since leaving my above comment.
@@ericbgordon1575 yes, I am almost a year late with that comment LOL! That's such an iconic scene to me - an ultimate 80's party scene.
When my kids ask what the 80s were like, I show them this video.
This video is so cute - quintessential 80's! Thanks
Great bass line

Sixteen candles
That music inspired by Motown...I hear "you can't hurry love" in there... love it
saw her in New York City. she opened for The Ramones. Oh those were the days!
Was thinking about great songs regarding the telephone, and this popped into my head. I don't think I've heard it for 25 years. What a cobweb to grab. Goes good with "Walking on Sunshine".
I have a yt playlist of songs about telephones.

Popculture80's 😎
no importa en q parte del planeta hayas estado
si estuviste e los 80
estuviste en el momento justo y fuiste parte d la fiesta!🤩
Anyone remember her from Miami Vice? She played Tommy “Sonny Crockett” Don Johnson’s personal auto mechanic in season 2.
I can't listen to this song without think 16 Candles and Cyndi Lauper. But this song is great! back when pop was innocent
Sugar Walls by Sheena Easton came out around this time. Not very innocent!
The 1980s: the last complete decade in which popular music was positive and hopeful.
@@hunkydory1973 Cindy has been quoted saying that she used to go to CBGB's and rip off Annies band The Shirts

I ALWAYS LOVED ANNIE GOLDEN THIS WAS MUSIC.
🎵 Sixteen candles ~
Loved this song!
I couldn't place her. She is Norma on Orange is the new black.
And she is also the voice of Marina in "The Pebble And The Penguin".
She's also Cliff Clavin's girlfriend on an episode of Cheers
Before all that she played Jeannie Ryan
in the movie HAIR (1976)
NOOOOO WTF...How the hell did I miss that...I loved her in HAIR...Im getting tested for Dementia...How did I not know that??????????????????????????????
Lead singer of The Shirts.
That bass line sounds like it was stolen from "A Town Called Malice" by The Jam... who stole it from "You Can't Hurry Love" by The Supremes.
The whole song sounds like "You Can't Hurry Love".
I used to love this song soooo much.
16 candles and orange is the new black brought me here ❤️
Here because of Annie Golden's role as Emma Gardner in the podcast It Makes a Sound.
16 candles 🧡 molly 4 ever

This song makes me want to imagine Marina from "The Pebble And The Penguin" singing this song.
Bro this is Norma
I wonder if her friends are ticked that they went through all this trouble, even invited Howie and Barb, and when she gets to her surprise party she ignores everyone except her preppy boyfriend.
why isnt this on ITunes UGH
There's a last scene to this video that was cut - Godzilla broke out of the top of the cake they're standing on, holding sparklers, and ate all of the people at the party.
true story
bet 😈
They walk in and all these humans are performing some ritual of possession and cannibalism
The 80s were creepy
Norma in 80's with voice
Yes its norma and this is so Cindy Lauper
Norma!!!
Praise Norma!
She appeared about the same time as Madonna. Which one had the talent?
Well she played CBGB in the 70’s and appeared in Hair in 1979 then played more than 60 more roles in films and tv, has been on Broadway in a bunch of shows, and she’s still going strong.
Gen Z might have no idea what's going on here. "Hang up?" "Get off the line?" "Why does that phone have a wire?"
Norma?!!
Talking to a he and not a she is not going to eleviate your issues honey trust me. hahahahaha
Always hated Norma, and I thought maybe it was because I didn't like the actress. I WAS WRONG SHE USED TO BE PUNK HELL YEAH
WTF NORMA LOLOL
Mute norma isnt so mute
Oh he’s talking to a he all right. 😂
She’s too close to Cyndi Lauper. I’m sure the record industry told her that and put her on the back burner.
