My wife n I been living off grid for 4 years , the best damn way to live we think anyway,,,no mortgage, no electric bill, no sewage bill, no gas bill or water bill. Just land tax , we have absolutely no debts,,we live by our own rules not the governments,,, We are firm believers in WE THE PEOPLE,,NOT WE THE GOVERNMENT.. yes we have tools,TV. Comp. Everything just like everyone else but NO DAMN BILLS... could never go back to modern living

I live totally off grid. I built 2 tiny cabins. I built a food forest and I really did invent a free energy source and heating system (that fails when the temperatures go past minus temps, so I am working on it). But because I get shot at by my neighbors, they make racist remarks, the police refuse to help me, they tell me to go back to where I come from (though I'm Africa and Native American) and my town refuses to give me a grant to go public, I have decided to keep the info to myself. Oh well, I thought you figured it out too.
Well I'm sorry you are dealing with that...now...why would your town be handing you money to "go public"? I think you have it right...the reason we live out in the country is because we don't wanna be bothered by the public. As for living in a shack in the woods...the "tiny house" craze....I just see this as a waste and simply not sustainable in the long term...I see trash all over the place....not enough room to store a lawnmower....and the eventual cleanup of all that mess is gonna be in the landfill. Living off grid...great...living in a garden shed....sorry it's not sustainable and ends up doing exactly the opposite of what you wanted...filling the landfill with more garbage
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I don't live in a garden shed. I custom made my place. I even have a surround porch and enjoy sleeping on it in the summer. I use solar to jump start my free energy system, and I pay someone to come hall my garbage after I've filled my 20 trash barrels. I don't use a lawnmower because I've modified my land to grow what I want, but if I wanted an electric mower I could store it in my car port. 😛

I watched the whole video & at first, I was actually hoping you had discovered some super-powered mini solar panel that really could power a tiny house. But even though you don't live in a tiny house, after all, it is possible to live off grid in a big house, with enough solar panels and batteries. Plus you can buy solar generators, and have some gas generators too. You don't have to be a slave to the electric company, even with a farm.

You could power a city block with that!!! That's the kind of system Stony Ridge Farmer would need to truly go "off grid". Without the natural gas well, he would want to remain connected to the grid, as a tertiary power source, for use during overcast calm days. (Primary being photovoltaic and wind, secondary being the battery reserve) He appears to have enough livestock, to set up an anaerobic digestor, and create non-fossil, carbon neutral natural gas. With that, he truly could go off the grid.

It's really so much more than solar ... It's about creating freedom . For instance a atmospheric water generator the size of a water Tower could run from solar and then use water and solar heat to power all of the big boy toys and houses, barns , ext ... and also provide clean drinking water and heat and many other things..... J's and also could cut your need to pay for those things and in turn allow more Denaro s for big boy toys that will become obsolete once you start 🤔 thinking about engine parts and whether or not it is smart to keep using ⛽ gas when you have an unending supply of energy.

Love the channel! If I remember correctly, you said there were 7 creeks on the farm. I would strongly suggest you consider some form of micro-hydro power to balance the solar as it is inefficient as a stand-alone system, especially during winter and overcast days. Check out MrHydroHead's channel for ideas on how to proceed. This guy has a great system, improved improved and upgraded over time that provides, with the solar, more than enough electricity and uses quality equipment that will last decades. I believe the unit he's using now (2nd) has a 12kw capacity and can be wired to output up to 600v 3phase (higher voltage better for long distance wire runs).

I've been off grid for five years. Because I live in Alaska I need a backup generator in the winter. If I lived in the lower 48 I'd rarely ever use it. I have all the comforts of a home in the city. Two freezers, fridge, washer/dryer, and even a full wood shop with a Shopsmith. If you spend the money you don't have to do without anything. I've spent $250K on my whole property to date. My living expenses (not counting food) are $150 a month. If I heated with wood I harvested it would only be $25 a month or less. All summer I spend $0 each month because we get so much sunlight. That's about four months a year.

I enjoy seeing a humorous video now and then. You can't be serious all the time or things get stale. I do believe that solar is an excellent way of reducing the grid use but there is no way to live a normal lifestyle without being on grid. Unless of course you spend a life savings in solar panels. i dont think 90% of people who speak English knows what the word spoof means. it isn't common English. most people in my generation thinks spoof means "to copy or imitate" because the only place its ever used is when people spoof IP or MAC addresses in computers. (use typed in addresses) a better word would be a more common one like joke, hoax, or other common words a 10 year old would be able to know. never use words that someone older than 10 would use unless you are in an educated setting. the collective internets education is about 6th grade or lower.

The small useless 12v solar panel can't charge a car through the lighter socket and the why because when you take the car's key out the accessories circuit becomes open.
some accessory outlets in cars/trucks are constantly on ...in that case it would work my brotha as long as it's not a keyed accessory outlet...my ford truck has one in the bed and it's always useable
