- In A Change on the Wind, the story transitions from the discoveries made in Something Wrong to the preparations for the major battle at Weisshaupt Fortress. After learning about an impending Blight outbreak threatening the fortress, you return to the Lighthouse to regroup with your companions. This quest focuses on dialogue and planning for the siege. Davrin informs you of the dire situation, emphasizing the threat posed by Razikale, an Archdemon leading the darkspawn army, as well as Ghilan’nain, one of the elven gods Solas inadvertently unleashed. You consult with Solas in the Meditation Chamber, where he outlines a strategy to combat these enemies. The quest allows you to finalize your party composition for the siege, with Davrin being a required member due to his fire-based abilities that are particularly effective against darkspawn. Once preparations are complete and strategies are set, you fast travel to Weisshaupt to begin one of the game’s most climactic missions.
The Siege of Weisshaupt begins with your arrival at Weisshaupt Fortress, which is under siege by Razikale and a massive darkspawn army. You start in a hidden area of the fortress known as the Blacksmith’s Storage, where you gather supplies before meeting Mila, who leads you through a secret passage to reach Antoine and Evka in the War Room. Along this path, you encounter blight boils that must be destroyed to prevent darkspawn reinforcements and face waves of enemies such as Hurlocks, Ghouls, and Blighters. Upon reaching the War Room, tensions come to a head when Rook confronts the First Warden over his failure to lead effectively during this crisis. At this point, you face a significant decision: either knock out the First Warden and take command yourself or attempt to reason with him. This choice has lasting consequences for companion approval and future interactions with factions like the Grey Wardens.
After assuming control of battle plans, your objective shifts to activating a Dragon Trap capable of restraining Razikale. Reaching this trap requires navigating through barricades infested with blight and engaging in intense combat encounters. One notable challenge is defeating The Relentless Wall, a Greater Hurlock boss clad in heavy armor and wielding a massive axe. This fight tests your ability to exploit elemental weaknesses and coordinate companion abilities effectively. Progressing further takes you through Weisshaupt’s library, which has been overrun by darkspawn forces. The library is maze-like, requiring you to destroy blight boils that block key pathways while fending off ambushes from enemies. Mila assists during this segment by deploying ladders that provide escape routes when blight traps your party.
The mission culminates at the Dragon Trap battlement, where you use bait placed at a Griffon Statue to lure Razikale into position. Just as it seems victory is within reach, Ghilan’nain intervenes and releases Razikale’s true form, escalating the conflict into an epic three-phase boss fight. In the first phase, Razikale uses powerful blight-based area-of-effect attacks while shielded by magic that must be broken using ranged abilities. During the second phase, Ghilan’nain summons waves of darkspawn reinforcements to assist Razikale, forcing you to balance crowd control with focused damage on the Archdemon itself. In the final phase, Razikale mutates into a monstrous three-headed form capable of devastating necrotic breath attacks that require precise positioning and tactical coordination among your party members.
After an intense battle, Razikale is finally defeated, but Ghilan’nain escapes after killing the First Warden in retaliation for his earlier defiance. Lucanis attempts to strike her down but fails due to her overwhelming power. With Weisshaupt saved but left heavily damaged by the siege, Rook and their companions retreat through an eluvian portal back to the Lighthouse.
