Be interesting to know why the Devs went down the path of associating both file types to open this way considering its a trivial task to not associate the zipped file in this matter....
I'm sure it was to make it easier for new folks coming into the hobby. This week's release has updated the icon for the zipfile so it won't look like the xLights sequence file.

Just go into Windows File Manager under "..."/Options/View and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

This is why I always recommend turning off the setting that hides file extensions.
