  • This is a step by step guide for controlling lasers using xlights. Specifically, how to export laser cues from Pangolin Quickshow software to be triggered with Xlights over artnet/DMX and Pangolin's FB4 controller.
The hardware used for this tutorial is the Pangolin external FB4 controller, and a Kvant Clubmax 3000 FB4 laser.

Hey there. Your videos are fvcking AWESOME! I was wondering if you had any software recommendations for my ilda laser that can accommodate either my ETHERDREAM or Helios DACs. God I’d love to own an FB3 or FB4 but no one has answered my FB Marketplace listing to purchase one used kidney.
Is there ANY way possible (emulator?) that I can use Quickshow or Beyond without a Pangolin DAC? You might not want to answer this in public but I would appreciate any suggestions.
Also, and im sorry for all the questions, but what would you deem to be the “standard” galvo speed that isn’t so slow that it projects a glowing constellation of silly string with zero blanking BUT also isn’t overkill (100kpps)? Ideally I’d love to accurately project, for example, a Jerrobeam wav file that approaches the clarity achievable in a vector display. My present lasers are all Frankenstein monsters I’ve built myself from salvaged components. The fastest laser I have has 45 kpps galvos (purportedly) but they still lag and don’t come close to the speed needed to mimic a vector display. I am not sure how to test the galvo speed to ensure that they truly are 45 kpps. They can project complex animations rather fluidly but fail when there are too many unconnected visual details.
I actually designed my own custom analog driver board so I could include a 320nm laser in addition to the RGB diodes. I use the UV diode for projecting onto photoreactive high capacity energy storing paint which leaves a wicked ghosting effect in the laser’s wake.
Anyway, I live your work and would truly appreciate any advice. I’m a total beginner and any advice is greatly appreciated. Oh, but I’m poor. 🙏❤️
