- The Black Swallowtail butterfly is one of our more common species and is easily reared in a home terrarium. See how easy this.
The most challenging part of raising caterpillars is sufficient food. Finding and identifying Queen Anne’s Lace wildflower all along the roadsides and fields makes feeding the Black Swallowtail caterpillar an easy task! Pluck the caterpillar off of your parsley or dill and move it into a terrarium filled daily with fresh Queen Anne’s Lace. They love it. The whole family will enjoy the few weeks it takes for this pretty caterpillar to change into a glorious butterfly, right in your home.

I’ve got 22 newly hatched black swallowtail cats on some dill in my kitchen right now. Had to cut this 7” tall parsely out of my stone walkway. A friend gave me a few potted dill plants so in a day or so, I will move the cats to those plants and place in a RestCloud butterfly enclosure outside. Do not put them in those plastic container boxes! too hot 🥵 About the frass - In nature, no one is going around cleaning it up. It falls and decomposes quickly. GO WATCH my last two videos 😊
Dont forgot about Rue 😁❤️
Heat rises, need to have ventalation on top of the enclosure 🏆
Is his in Maryland?
I had 5 black swallow-tailed caterpillars on my dill. When I saw I only had four I wrapped the dill plant and top with small holed mesh. The next morning I still had four. The following day I only had one. This morning, still one. What happened to them? I figured I bird got the first one. There are no chrysalis on the plants and none of them started the J form. What happened to them
