I recently purchased a Husqvarna 550xp Mark II, which so far I am totally in love with, and that coming from a man who has run Stihl saws for the last 25 years.
i just bought a 555 sight un seen in a milk crate full of parts for 100$. cleaned it out and got her running. new bar and chain, air filter, bolts, clips. love it.
I bought one of these back in 05 or 06 and it is still on the job. Admittedly it is a low use saw because I still have my high use 357 XP even older and my 55 Rancher. Husky all the way. I am 78 and I’m pretty sure these will outlive me. Real sure. A great saw is a lifetime investment.
Same experience for me - great saw, no problems. Auto-tune is a major improvement - people worried about electronic management systems when they first came out in cars - look how that worked out!
I’ve owned a Husqvarna 550xp auto tune for 5 years now and it’s seen a lot of cutting sense. Never let me down. I love it! Also living and cutting in southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦💪🛠
Appreciate your review on this and 💯 on both the husky and the anvil being great tools for years to come! I bought my Husky 365 Special back in 05 for just the sole purpose of cutting big hardwoods for firewood and was one of my first big power tools I owned, then a few years later life changes came about an my saw went into storage and I haven’t been able to use it to much since.. I’m really hoping in the future to get back onto the working end of my Husky, wood splitter and the wood pile, really miss doing that stuff! Really enjoying your video Sandy! Thanks again! Cheers!
@@sawingwithsandy yes I’d recommend either saw for yourself, the 365 special (atleast before non-X-Torq models like mine) the special stands for a 372 crank is what the dear told me. Anyways they both are a powerhouse in hardwoods and you won’t be disappointed if you picked one up sometime. Cheers Sandy!
Sitting here in rural Alaska with a dead 555xp. Bought new. Low hours. Auto tune makes it so I can't repair it. As long as you have a Husky dealer near by and you love giving him your cash, run out and get one for yourself. Gold mine for the dealer, nothing in it for you.
I fired it up and put it about 3 to 4 feet away from the ledge and from the vibration it fell off, about 7 to 8 feet on to rocks. Didn't even want to go look at it but the sucker was still running and to my surprise nothing was broken just 1 little scratch. Things a beast, been super reliable in all sorts of altitudes and Temps. Starts 3rd pull every time for me and I've had it for 3 to 4 years. Camping/fun usage only, have processed logs 36 to 40 inch with ease as long as your chain is sharp. 24 inch bar
so true sandy i bought a 555 husky must be 6 or 7 years ago im in firewood business the 555 has worked flawless cut well over a 1000 single cord firewood have cut 80 cord this spring i use reg gas and motomaster 2 stroke oil cheapest you can get works fine in it besides 40 or 50 chains 4 or 5 bars have done nothing to saw husky the best always start and keep running
I've been using Stihl MS261cm with mtronic with great success. No more having to adjust carb as conditions change and throttle response is out of this world.
We are in the same situation. I burn wood (6 cord) per year & cut down trees around the yard.. I clean it thoroughly every 3-4 times I use it. I am on year 4 of my machine with no issues. I talked to the dealer and there is a software update to the computer chip. It is now at the shop. You should ask your dealer as well about the firmware update. I decided on the auto-tune because I didn't want to fight with adjusting carburetors. I run my machine in a range of 40-1 to 50-01.
Good to know about the firmware update. I"ll ask my dealer, thanks for sharing that and the mix ratio you use. I'm at 50:1 right now but good to know others go a bit richer as well.
Nice work. I bought my 555 in early 2014 for $700 CDN or so. Same shop now sells them for $979CDN !!!!. Wow. This reflects the market. The market can bear it. The market wants a good saw. You get what you pay for.
Wow that’s something. Although I’m with you in that a good running and reliable saw is worth a lot to me so I’d likely pay the price. I’ve had old run down saws before that wouldn’t start when needed and what a headache
I am looking for a replacement for my trusty old 55, it has been awesome however it is time for retirement. Adding another 5 to the model number seems to be the one.
Haha! I'm one of those "Stihl People" I love my electronic tuned MS261CM. The electonic carb technology seems to work well with both the Huskies and the Stihl's. Drag my Stihl around the northern New Hampshire woods and feel the same as you. Good tools pay for themselves in that they are reliable/dependable. Keep up the great videos!
I get jealous when I hear you talk about northern new hamshire. Beautiful area. I’m sure the Stihl saws are great units as well. Not really sure how I came to buy a husky in the first place over a stihl actually
My Husky is a little older than yours but I just LOVE my 357XP. I probably cut 15-17 logger cords per year. Outdoor wood boiler to heat my house, domestic water, and my shop.
My 555 is down now. I have tried everything to get it running. No spark? New plug. Tore it down…still nothing. I had it for 3 and done routine maintenance. No idea. To the repair shop….bummer
Make sure you blow them out with an air compressor each season, if it builds up around cooling areas your saw will blow, also there's a blue cover that goes in your pull cover for winter just incase you never new but of you buy one new from a dealer you should have gotten them
just got a 460 and Amazon sent the wrong one they sent the 455 rancher and they can't take back for shipping reasons so,i got the saw free and my money back.
Wow that’s quite the deal. I’m not too familiar with the rancher but I’ve read a lot of people use them and they perform well. And a free saw at that makes that saw feel even better in the hands no doubt
I live mine. Cut a hell of a lot of fire wood especially when I was selling red gum fire wood. Had it 7 or 8 years now. Only just run into a drama with it now where I’m not getting a spark. Changed the spark plug over but still no spark so I’m thinking it’s the lead. Hopefully that’s all it is
My 555 lost spark a week ago, I replaced the coil and it's good to go now. Mine would run for a few minutes then shut off, then would not restart for 30-40 minutes, might only been a bad wire from the coil causing it, but the amount of work to pull it apart and test and hope you fixed it. I decided to replace the whole thing. Been a great saw tho.
You have me worried. I just got so frustrated with my 55 rancher that I went out and bought a professional 555. Didn't know they made an aut-otune version. LOL I'm sure I'll be happy with it if the decompress button works like the sale guy said it would.
G'day from Down under, I have the OZ version a 556 and it does its job well. If your interested in how much work its done and a lot of other interesting details, take into a husky dealer and run the diagnostics.
That's a great idea. I've not had it back to the dealer yet but maybe I'll ask them to hook it up the diagnostic in the next little while. Thanks again for checking out the videos. take care!
I bought mine few years ago, and regret getting it. It let me down few times already. I keep relying on mine 50 year old Homelite (2 pulls every time) more often then the 555 Husqvarna with AutoTune.
I have used both brands Stihl / Husqvarna. There all good saws if you look after them . Proper high octane fuel and oil mix / Oiler set properly / proper maintenance / Thats all they need too perform well . 👍
Not to rain on your parade but if you dont clean your saw it will over heat and blow up. Need to take it apart and air compressor the heck out of it. Just trying to save ya some cash!

That's great to hear Mike. Mine sure has taken some trees with it and is still going strong!
Mike, I live in southern Ontario, looking for a good husky dealer, suggestions?
I've had one of these saws for roughly 4-5 years and have run the HELL out of it and she has never skipped a beat
They sure are well built. And boy do they scream eh!
I've used my new husky 555 for 2 days now it's exceeded my expectations.
It’s a good saw I’d say

Good to hear it's running well for ya. I hear ya when ya say a sharp chain is the most important. Absolutely right
Great review . I have the same saw . Same results.. always runs perfect
Sure is a great saw. Next time I want to try out the 562 for comparison

I’ll have to give the stihl saws a try one day. I’m sure they must be good saws to be able to be a top seller around the world.
I have a ms 361 c and she works like a champ ;)

I love mine too. Here in Colorado I saw from 5100 foot elevation to 7800 ft , the saw auto adjusts for reduced air at higher elevation.
I can image about the elevation change put where you are. I just hope they keep on kicking for many more years as the auto tune has been great
My Husky is a little older than yours but I just LOVE my 357XP. I probably cut 15-17 logger cords per year. Outdoor wood boiler to heat my house, domestic water, and my shop.
Sounds like you’ve got a solid saw too. Good to hear that similar husky’s are running well after all those years and wood
@@sawingwithsandy I also have a Stihl 029 but it became my backup saw after I got the Husky.
Your opinion about the saw?
You didn’t watch the video?
Just got one today, had a 455 rancher before!
I have a 576 auto and love it

I have the 545 mk ii and it's a solid performer. Soon gonna be grabbing a 565 or 572 once the dealer gets them in stock.
I sure like the looks of the 572. Wouldn't mind trying one one day
@@sawingwithsandy yes they are nice. The swamp trees here in NS some knarly stuff the extra 20cc would be great for the swamp Oaks and maples lol.
How is the sawing doing today 4 years later?
Still going strong

I running Husqvarna saw for almost 20 years and they bin pretty good never had the change to run a stihl
Yeah me neither. One day I’ll give them a try when I run into a friend with one.
I have the same saw and I love it too. Great saw for me here in NS
It sure is a good saw eh. Hope all is well out on the east coast
Were did yoy purchase and what did you pay ... looking at one or a 550xp
great video, love it from Arkansas Rob
I know the feeling live on NY side of the st. Lawrence river

Mine is just the same- no problem whatsoever with the auto-tune. I owned a Stihl for years and prefer this saw.
I have one stihl saw and it just sits on the shelf. These saws are fast revving and work in all conditions. Winner in my books
Yes they are awesome saws, never had problems with them either. Looking at the 572xp now, they are supposed to be flawless too.
I really like the looks of the 572xp. Seems like a more modern version of the tried and true 372
572 looks righteous. Fairly Heavy vs Stihl comparables but made to last I think. Inboard clutch is kinda cool. Yes please.

Sorry to hear about it not working out. Hope the bugs get worked out one day for you
Send it to a scrap yard and save yourself headaches.
So better than a xp? I really think I will be picking up 555 w 20 in bar 699 no auto tune issues?
I’ve been running my auto tune for year now hard and not one issue
I have used both brands Stihl / Husqvarna. There all good saws if you look after them . Proper high octane fuel and oil mix / Oiler set properly / proper maintenance / Thats all they need too perform well . 👍
I’m with ya. Hogh octane fuel seems to be key for my small engines
Thanks
yeah mine good too
I wish I only spent 700 on my experiment saw lol mine was 1500 :/ we will see how it works. Husqvarna 545fx Auto tune
It’s weird I have all the same equipment. Brothers from another mother
I'll take my carb and a screwdriver.

461 and 261 non mtronic. Both ported.
