In this video I'm doing a study of a Makoto Shinkai movie background with Photoshop. This is part of my practice to improve my paintings.

Its so crazy that these types of backgrounds are only shown for a couple of seconds in makoto shinkais movies

Come to meghalaya the abode of clouds and go to cherrapunji. I would recommend the noh kalikai falls or the nohsngi thiang falls.
If you are lucky to get to see them during a sunshine day then you are blessed since only 12% or so have manage to see them during sunshine day with the best view during June - August. That's the best time to see them.

This seems inconceivable to draw to me, an unreachable level in my eyes.
Practice you can do it
Landscape drawing is perhaps one of the easiest things to bullshit on in art. The rules are loose and imperfections are easily brushed off as intentional. It’s things like realistic mechanical and anatomy where if one thing is of by even a hairs width that are difficult. Trust me, something like this would be one of the easiest things to do in high level art.

Hey ! So I'm a complete noob at photoshop, I just downloaded your brush pack but I noticed the brush preset you use for the grass is not in there. Is it part of another pack or is it a default brush ? I'm a bit lost

Do you consider it cheating when I use texturized brushes for patterns and grass and stuff like that because I really don’t feel good doing that... absolutely love your work btw !!!
It isn't cheating, many Concept Artists use it for work to save time etc.
One of my animation teacher is a background artist for Shinkai and your way to do the background is so different from his but is so nice watch. Very nice final result.
Can you please provide details about the procedure your teacher follows to create such backgrounds?

for me it,s more like miyazaki hayao then shinkai makoto 😂 but damn it,s so amazing art tho ❤❤❤
Miyazaki uses more green and isn’t digital so I think that’s why he went with shinkai

Hi!! You can trying using clipping mask and overlay (: clipping mask > use this over a layer where you want the sunrays to, for example be on an object/item. Then use light colors (maybe light greyish purple/blue/any light colors u prefer). Ditch the clipping mask if you don’t have a specific object you want the sunrays on (:

That layer management is giving me Anxiety
Lol same here but you know it's easy. Yup it's easy you see for every individual change or every type of thing he does for example coloring the clouds making the clouds giving them shadows etc he is making different layers for each type that is different layer for coloring of the cloud, drawing of the cloud, shadow adding to the clouds. Yup everything is done on different layer for easiness. Check my yt I do it on a phone but not this much though.
