What a MAGNIFICENT rendition! Single breath on the longest coloratura passage with such ease and elegance, very few tenors have the breath control to pull it off. Even fewer can do this piece justice as Mozart intended. Simply stunning!
Improvised embellishments is absolutely allowed in Mozart! I'm so glad that JDF gave us such a unique embellished version, he may set a future trend for singing Mozart. Everything is so tastefully done. German music critic Jürgen Kesting has a wonderful article discussing JDF's use of ornamentation, "Die Freiheit zu verzieren". You will appreciate JDF's genius more after reading it!
I will also leave the words of Gregory Berg from tthe Journal of Singing: "Florez sings these arias with a fearless and even flamboyant use of ornamentation that one almost never hears in this repertoire. Purists are likely to balk at some of his choices, but they are a product of a keen and resourceful mind and always sung with expressive intent. The tenor is most audacious in "Il mío tesoro," the aria from Don Giovanni that posed such technical challenges that Mozart was compelled to compose a different aria ("Dalla sua pace") to replace it when the work was first performed in Vienna. Most tenors find this aria to be back-breakingly difficult as Mozart wrote it, yet Florez compounds its challenges with ornaments that include additional roulades plus two high ?-flats and a high C. This would come off as shameless grandstanding if sung by a less refined tenor; in the hands of Florez, this is a performance for the ages, and one we could imagine Mozart himself heartily approving. At any rate, these are performances that will surely inspire discussion and debate on how Mozart's vocal music is most effectively sung."

jdf dopo 1996 in pochissimo tempo diventato con suo voce unica senza dover fare il passaggio il cantante tenor insuperabile di tutti i tempi non solo per me dopo 70 anni mio amore per il belcanto cresce soltanto.da bambina mio unico idolo era CAllas. con rispetto dico da qando piu di 20 anni fa jdf per me e al primo posto nel cuore orecchio e occhi. i vorrei lui cantasse solo belcanto lui fa tanti cc dd ff gg .purtoppo anche se con sua volonta canta sempre studiano con autocritica mai presumzione arriva anche la essere il migliote !! se ho sentito qalcosa con lui tutti qelli altissimi sento pocho. desidero sua voce e presenza. fare paragone anche grande cantanti del passaro ingustissimo.Ogni Voce e Unico!!!!!!il il non ho mai voluto convincere mai.sono costretta ora rispondere chi osa offendere!!!se una persona prefersce A.Kraus o M. del Monaco (lui era gradissimo ma bari-tenor) e altri deve ascotare loro!!!Pavarotti diceva suo sucessore e Domingo chiama ora il piu grande tenore di grazia

El maestro Flórez y adopta una perspectiva casi jazzística en la repetición da capo, introduciendo variaciones y adornos por doquier. En mi opinión, resulta un tanto excesivo, y es cierto que no es lo habitual en estas páginas sagradas de Mozart, pero no deja de tener su frescura y atractivo para el público que está siguiendo la interpretación en directo. Además, el Tenor matiza muy bien y es capaz de adoptar tonos diversos según el texto que está cantando, que por supuesto ya el propio Mozart había conjuntado de manera magistral. En resumen, y a pesar de todo, una interpretación diferente e interesante. Gracias por el vídeo.
No es cierto que no es habitual. Hay literalmente bibliografía de ornamentación para Mozart con recomendaciones del mismo compositor. No solamente es habitual, sino práctica de interpretación estándar de la época de aria da capo.
Completamente de acuerdo contigo Carlos, Es verdad que es habitual. He escuchado algunas interpretaciones hechas por: Alva, Blake, Camarena, Miranov; han hecho bellas adaptaciones .
Sì, ma perché "mio tesoro" lo fate quasi tutti puntato? Non è puntato. Le note sono.perfettamente uguali e devono essere cantate molto legate, altrimenti si perde gran parte dell'effetto di grande dolcezza che Mozart voleva dare a quelle parole.

Escuchen a Peter Schreier, es un tenor aleman, es la voz perfecta para Mozart, Francisco Araiza tambien hace un buen trabajo, son tenore liricos con unas voces que no juegan a la acrobacia como Flores, son voces profundas, nobles, masculinas, y con facilidad para cantar en registros medios y bajos, Flores lo hace bien, pero no se escucha mucho, solo en los agudos fuera de partitura se luce pero eso no es Mozart. La musica de Mozart se canta como esta escrita, con un estilo clasico, bien definido. es un tipo de tenor diferente, muy, muy dificil. Bien Flores por el intento, suena Bonito, pero no es lo suyo, Mejor concentre sus esfuerzon en el Bel canto, maximo La traviata pero con microfono.

Very small voice...too small for opera.
Florez is a light lyric tenor, not a big dramatic spinto. It is true his voice is too small for many opera roles, but it is perfectly suited to some - mostly playing a young naive guy. Go looking for his performance in La Fille du Regiment, where the aria really suits his voice much better than it would ever suit a Pavarotti or Domingo.
Mozart's great aria is ruined by your low class variation of random whispering...thin voice.

Well, I think the ornaments are not of bad taste, and on the period of Mozart the ornamentation tradition was even current in italian opera and even more in a comedy-tragedy as Don Giovanni...of course in the ritornello
