Tried this bike a few years ago and was quite impressed. The best parts for me is that it feels lovely and light, very easy to move around when stationery and a nice low seat hight greatly improving your confidence when doing low speed manoeuvres such as performing u turns and the likes particularly if you are short in the leg like me. I found the performance of this bike more than adequate but in the end I didn't go for it because I was looking for something more suited to carrying a pillion. Most bikes today seem to be designed mainly with the" Pilot" in mind with very little thought for a pillion The only thing I wasn't too keen on was that instrument binnacle with the dodgy/odd rev counter but on the new model coming soon that has been transformed.
There is a "shift light". Tacho flashes at a rider preset engine speed. Chances are your clock has been set higher than the rev limiter. Dunlop D214s. Least said the better.
@@diamondheat9 Well, if it's really red and has traction control, then I might take the hit and trade. There were only two of this color within 350 miles of me and I wasn't sure it would be offered in 2020.
I've been riding a 2014 Duke 390, and now have this bike with me. It's a friend's, and he's out of town for a bit. In terms of performance, it's such a massive step up for me. At the moment, I can't even think of hitting the redline 😁. 6k rpm is scary enough plus there's the fact that I live in India, so there's no messing about with this bike. Terrific, pure riding experience though.
The tacho needle flashes when it’s time to change gear in place of an actual shift light. This can be adjusted. Have the 2018 version of this bike and it has more than enough power for the road. It’s a fantastic machine.
Grabbed the 2k18 variant recently for 5k , Steal , tested the mt09 (great bike) but this is a beast , replaced the entire exhaust system & end can , air filter added a power commander (not nescessary , get a booster plug instead) , heated grips & a Sports touring visor (hard to find but if you can its taller than a sports but smaller than the touring screen) changed to a lithium battery (litterally eliminated 10kg in weight from the bike . Fast as Feck now , noticeably so compared to stock good review
Did you get the model with or without ABS. A motorcycle dealer has about 5 on clearance at $5600 which seems like a hell of a steal, but they are all non ABS models at that price.
Nice review. What I love is the no frills honesty. I notice that as a theme with UK reviews in particular. Unfortunately in Australia there are now so many speed traps as to prohibit almost any daily fun on such a great bike. I’ll probably end up with V Strom for that reason . ✌️
totally agree with all you said i had one but i am 6ft 3 and the seat height is too low that's why i sold mine will be interesting to see if the new model seat height as been increased because i would have another one tomorrow .brilliant bike
I'm 6'2" and I felt the same way about the seat. Couldn't ride for more than an hour before needing a break. Then I got the tall seat, which is now standard on the 2020, and I can go on without stopping until the tank is empty.
@@MrBlueberrypie44 to be fair it makes 115 at the wheel which is plenty of go for a naked. I am sure with a full system you will be at 130 HP and gobs of torque
@@steve-wu7jp it's not impossible at all but I doubt it's making that at the wheel, but saying that, 100 at the wheel can be plenty fun on a good setup, will have to wait and see what the reviews say then wait for a demo to test it out.
@@Kevin-vg5uw 125hp is pretty good for a dedicated street bike. I hear what you're saying, it's definitely not pushing big numbers. But with 98Nm with a flat torque curve and raw without electronics, I think they're onto something. Are you disappointed with the upcoming Z H2?
@@Kevin-vg5uwAlso it's been out for 2 years. My brother has a 2018 model and it's very nice to ride, especially for the price. But we all have different tastes so any extra models are just adding to our choicess

Bought mine in 2018, after testing all of the competition. Easily the pick of the bunch for me, best all-rounder.
Does everything well.
Just bought one 3 weeks ago!! Same color except the red in the US looks a bit darker. Awesome bike.
Wish I would have convinced you to wait for the 2020 model.

@@JeffBowe I really wanted the black and red color option.

Bought the performance model in August 2019, it really is a sweet bike without fancy electronics.

What does a power commander or a booster plug do? I just bought a used 2019. Thanks
Excellent review. Thanks! I have the 2018, love it.
Thanks for watching!
I've got the exact same bike, just wish I'd waited a few months and got the 2020 model with the new dash! Still love, love, love it.
Couldn't agree more!
Probably going to get the updated one announced tomorrow at EICMA.

That's pretty low figure for the capacity
More about the wide torque band. Peak power doesn't tell the whole story
