It's a close call. Carlo Ancelotti has managed better players than Fergie but he has travelled more. Ferguson never went to mainland Europe because his style was distinctively British. It wouldn't work at RM or Barca. That's the big mark against Fergie. But as for rebuilding a team, Fergie wins that one.
I would say Ancelotti shades it.

One thing I’ll give Carlo over pep is the freedom he gives his players to express themselves. Pep however great he is has made football very system based and robotic. Miss when attackers where entertaining and kept you off your seats.

Guardiola’s style of football, with Ancelotti’s results. In reality it shows the need to be adaptable. We should never underestimate that Real Madrid enter the UCL as a competition it is theirs to lose, it’s their destiny. A different mentality.

Madrid have a special relationship with the UCL. But winning the UCL doesn't equate with best team in Europe. Man City are a better team than RM (even when they face each other RM dont go toe to toe, knowing they can't match City's football)
But when Barca were strong they were runners up in the league most years.
From 2014-2018 Madrid conquer Europe but not the best in Spain. It means RM had a style that was suited to the knockout nature of the UCL. As well as history and quality players.
@@bh629 I agree and I’m not saying they’re better. I prefer the Guardiola/Cruyff style personally. However with 15 UCL, that’s where the mentality it’s their cup comes from. When it was limited to League Winners only, it was a competition where only the most consistent team from the previous season played each other. Cup Winners included the best domestic trophy winners. UEFA was the emerging teams from their home leagues. Of course, UEFA saw bucks so all had to change. 🤷🏼♂️
