Making the knight look like a soldier instead of a horse was a brilliant decision! Great video just like always
Thanks! It was a gamble but hopefully it pays off.
The final version looks great! I understand how difficult it is to constantly remake something, especially when it's just a part of a large work. I take my hat off to your tenacity. Please be sure that the final result was worth it. This piece and all the set looks something to die for!
Thank you so much for shooting all the process and sharing your thoughts and intermediate results. Your videos are much more motivating than the guys, who mount only the main points. It's very important to show not only some "successful success", but also all the obstacles that you face on the way. Often when I watch other sculpture videos, I feel myself worthless, because it seems that others make everything very quickly and get it right from the first time, and I am such loser who remakes everything several times)
BTW, the option of the Knight as a man with horse head also looked interesting. The final version looks perfect for this set, but the man with a horse head can become a good figure on it's own even thought at first it looks ridiculous.
Yeah Sculpture projects almost never go according to plan and they almost always take longer than you expect. Having that in mind can help to avoid frustration and realize that’s just part of the process. Thanks for the great comment!
Andrew,
I also forgot to mention, you could easily have your chess pieces scanned, and saved as 3D printable files.
This might be more cost-effective than having someone digitally 3D design each piece.
Just a thought.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew! I think onces you have the full chess set finished you can try to do a collaboration with Hikaru Nakamura. He is one of the top chess players in the world and he is a popular streamer on twitch. He is loved and respected by everyone in the chess community. I think you have an outstanding artwork and it can shock everyone 💪 Besides it'll give your work a exposure boom.
Also as a side note: try to get somebody that could sculpt the full set on a 3d sculpture program so that you can scale it down to a normal size and have a still premium but pocketable size chess set 😉
All yor work so it's mesmerazing to me 💪 Keep going. You inspire us so much ✌ Greetings from Perú
Great idea! I’ve thought about reaching out to chess influencers so this is a helpful suggestion! I would like to figure out outsourcing manufacturing because that will be a big bottle neck for how many I personally can make.
@@AndrewJosephKeith Yeah, exactly onces you figure the process with a trusted 3d printing company you could test which size will be better for the mini version 💪 At the sculpture workshop I work at, we print anything from 1/3 scale figures to standard and mini funkos. So I would advice you that it's not so much about the printing machine, since ours it's not a fancy one (It just meassures 40cm x 20cm) but the 3d sculpture file, so if I would have to choose, I would invest in that one 😉
As for the materials resin or a higher versions of it would be great to keep it affortable 💪
Hope it helps and that one day, we could have some of your sculptures around this part of the world!
A great idea to have the full set sculpted in a 3D sculpting program. You would then be able to resize the pieces to any size you wanted. From pieces say 1/2", to a full-sized person, if desired.
You could also 3D print these files using a resin printable wax, and then 'lost wax' cast each of the individual pieces, multiples at a time. These chest pieces cast in bronze, and then patinaed in two contrasting colors, would really look great!
Outsourcing can be a bit difficult, and expensive, if you don't have the right manufacturing contacts. But, with a little bit of research, it should be doable. If this might be a way you would like to go, you can contact me if you might like some additional information.
Do you ever do digital sculpting, using a software like ZBrush?
I’ve only dabbled a little. I prefer traditional sculpting in clay.
Have you stopped posting updates on your chest piece journey? If so, do you have a link where we can purchase them?
Hey I have just hit a snag with the mold making which has become more expensive and difficult than I expected. It is still a work in progress but I need to redo some of the molds for the pieces.
@@AndrewJosephKeith oh, sounds good. Thanks for the update.
