Ron is so big hearted and generous to provide the cake with his own money. I’m sure it may be frustrating when there’s a need for something serious like a septic tank, and pinching Pennie’s is important, but you will never ever regret kindness shown or generous giving.
Happy Independence Day - you are such lovely folks and I love the wholesome and educational value you provide in a world that doesn’t seem to honor much of the same.

That printer was my ancestor, John Dunlap! If I remember correctly, I am not a direct descendant, but John was the brother of my direct descendant. There are only a few Dunlap Broadsides that still exist (26 out of the approximately 200 or so originally printed). The printer who printed copies of the Declaration with the names of the signers was a woman!! Mary Katharine Goddard.

Bugs are full of protein. In fact, if you get lost in a forest while hiking, you can survive by eating certain bugs like crickets. I just love the red color, Justine, of the cochineal (sp?). Its just lovely. Did they also use berries for dyes? This was a very nice video. You both looked great all dressed up for the 4th! Happy Birthday, America! Let us pray that we can continue on the traditions set by those great forefathers to allow us our independence. Let freedom continue ringing loud and clear! Thanks to you both for helping to keep that Spirit alive! Have a fun 4th! God Bless! Sue ❤😊

Mercury- the mad hatter is because they used mercury to stiffen the wool. They would put the mercury coated wool on their head, and use their body heat to help dry out the wool. And they usually went “mad” or what we would call crazy. In England they usually were sent to Bedlam.

Almond oil is good but it makes me break out as well. Some books in the early 18 C in England used salad oil aka olive oil instead of almond oil. But I like to use grapeseed oil. It absorbs well and I find I don't break out with it. I love alkenet! It is one of the few herbs that stains oil. I use 2 tablespoons in .5 cups oils and keep it warm for 7 hours. I get a lovely red colour. But I am going to try the lip balm . My lips crack all year round. Thank you and cheers from Canada. Pacific northwest side.

Goat suet was probably used because goats were cheaper than say, a cow. My Pennsylvania born and raised mom pronounced salve as "S-ahhve". Prickly pear is indeed a cactus. The fruit is edible, but you better burn off the tiny thorns or carefully peel the skin off, then remove the seeds inside before eating. Trust me, you do not want to get those tiny spines into your skin! I speak from experience!

Next time y'all are in Virginia pop by Hampton! It's about 30 minutes south of Williamsburg and has its own part of our early American history, and also newer history, particularly NASA related stuff 🥰 I was wondering, as far as you are aware, would powdered beetroot be a common ingredient to color makeup and/or food? I've seen it recommended for a natural colorant for baked goods and homemade makeup, but didn't know how recent a practice that was 🤔🥰
