While i sympathise with these women and think it's a shame they cannot be compensated. It's worth pointing out that they got their pensions at say, 63, whereas the vast majority of the current working population won't see theirs until the age of 67/68 or later.
Not true. Many had to work till 66. Not in good paying jobs. The only rubbish jobs they could get after 60. It is worth noting that many are unemployed after 60. £74 was the amount to live on a week even though working part time. Great do you think? Many would say not.
We paid for the pensioners when we were young So you pay when you are young. But when you are old the younger generation will pay for you. That’s how it works for everyone
So let me get this correct, so people who came before us that worked for a living who paid into the system along with paying into a pension are now looking at losing the pensions they paid in to? If so. WHY?
If she’s lucky and can avoid the slings and arrows life will throw at her, she might be a pensioner one day. Only then, will a person like this, understand.
Too many young are vile towards Boomers. When I married 50 years ago, our 1 bedroom flat had NO RUNNING hot water, no bath, no shower, no double glazing, no central heating. We suffered 17.5% Interest Rate on our Mortgages. EVERY single penny we have we have worked.. a lifetime of doing without to have. If the current young had to live the way we did, I could feel SOME sympathy for them. But, they fritter their money on coffees, pubs, take-aways, holidays, nights out, restaurants. We never had a foreign holiday for 15 years because we were renovating a dump of a house. (All we could afford). We camped in a tent and moved up to a towing caravan. She, and Benjamin Butterworth look back to Boomers youth with current luxuries we never had. Look beyond London. Most of us don't live in £1 million houses.
I've heard her on lots of news shows and every single time she is on she shows herself up for the spoilt little rich girl who doesn't think her taxes should go to anything she doesn't use. Reality check love, that's the nature of paying taxes and always has been. Everybody before you has paid for stuff and people that they didn't know. What about the other 75%., and it shouldn't be tax payers money to compensate us. We already paid the money, over a lifetime of working g and contributing to our pensions

They have paid off their house because they worked hard and managed without luxury items. If you think owning your own house at 66 is classed as a millionaire you need to check your facts.
Just from a cold financial position. If someone has reached 66 and they have no debt then their assets will frequently top £1M which is the literal definition of millionaire (even though to this may not feel like it). Proof: 300k - Average UK House Price 375k - Private DC Pension at 25k per annum times 15 years life expectancy 325k - All other lifetime savings (cash and investments) P.S. the Boomer generation have grown up with golden packages that have bankrupted our nation. I am in favour of the government staying completely out of our lives and barely getting involved.
What she mighy not realize is those of pension age now cane through a different social contract that's now been broken ...from cradle to grave is long gone..but thats what it was and how it was sold
The answer is simple. Means test the state pension - if you’re rich you don’t get it, if you’re poor you do. Use the reduced cost of the pension to give working people a tax cut eg scrap national insurance entirely, but get employers to be forced to give their NI payments directly into the workers private pension scheme. Men have shorter life expectancy so should be receiving the pension 4 years earlier than women. Men should be in receipt of pension from 64 and women 68 - giving both 15 years of retirement on average. Otherwise we are moving towards a world where people are spending more of their lives not working than working, and that’s not sustainable without opening the floodgates to immigrants (which is also not sustainable).
She needs to remember she is young and just starting out. Pensioners will have worked for at least 50 years. She needs to keep her mouth shut. I paid tax for over 50 years, and an still paying tax. We are only getting back what we have paid into. Also our taxes probably went towards her student grants.
Her argument is redundant. Even if she was correct saying that WASPI women were millionaires, they still were not treated equally and were financially penalised…unlike pensioner men.
I think men WERE penalised for many, many years by not being allowed to retire at the same age as women. However I still think it's despicable how the waspi women were treated.
fact checkers found it's actually 27% of pensioners are millionaires. the 27% have enough money, no more handouts for them, lets focus on helping the ones that arent millionaires.
What absolute tosh! Waspi women are also tax payers, i know, i,m one of them, worked for minimum wage for most of my working life and have to watch every penny. Please educate yourself before spouting utter tripe..
She needs to get her facts right! Does she not realise we waspi women paid towards the pensioners when WE WAS her age!! So if I had a private pension and they wanted to change the terms and conditions- they would need to contact me and discuss. The government was taking our money and did NOT inform us of such changes. Private company would have to pay out compensation So why shouldn’t the government?? All I can think is our government doesn’t seem to be fit for purpose.
An ombuddman has said what should happen and how much. Amount suggested is peanuts to the amount lost. Many lost the working years left to save for retirement. For many reasons. Illness is one. Being a carer for partners and elderly another.
I can totally sympathise with these women, but don't forget, this is the generation that fought so hard for equality. Now that they have pension equality, they don't like it. You can't just pick and choose which type of equality you want ladies. You didn't once think of any of the tens of millions of men who had to work to 65 did you? 😂

Jeremy's team is Chelsea if you didn't know.
If so.
WHY?
What!!!! I wish I was!
The pensions that are on offer are not worth having.
If a pensioner is reasonably well off then they will still be paying tax,ie still contributing to the state
If she’s lucky and can avoid the slings and arrows life will throw at her, she might be a pensioner one day. Only then, will a person like this, understand.
No way are 25% millionaires.
No stamp duty for pensioners, so they can downsize.
She shouldn't be on these programs any more spouting her hatred
I am astounded Des at her assertion. Where are these figures coming from?
What about the other 75%., and it shouldn't be tax payers money to compensate us. We already paid the money, over a lifetime of working g and contributing to our pensions
Asset rich young lady, because they were once young hard working tax payers.
This comment section is gold. Britons arguing is so entertaining.
Most pensioners have a paid off house, defined benefit scheme and lifetime savings
I could see 1M net worth yes for 25% of them
I would love to know where you get the figures from 😂
So they should be penalised for working hard their whole lives and handling their finances correctly?
They have paid off their house because they worked hard and managed without luxury items. If you think owning your own house at 66 is classed as a millionaire you need to check your facts.

Just from a cold financial position. If someone has reached 66 and they have no debt then their assets will frequently top £1M which is the literal definition of millionaire (even though to this may not feel like it). Proof:
300k - Average UK House Price
375k - Private DC Pension at 25k per annum times 15 years life expectancy
325k - All other lifetime savings (cash and investments)
P.S. the Boomer generation have grown up with golden packages that have bankrupted our nation. I am in favour of the government staying completely out of our lives and barely getting involved.
crikey, is this the first time I’ve ever agreed with Jones. That Reem woman, that’s a Conservative?
She needs to get out of her ivory tower and live in the real world.
I never thought that I would ever agree with Owen Jones.
@ actually I do agree with you there. The retirement age should have been reduced to 60 for everyone, not increased.
The problem is social media has forced the twatish opinion of gen z down everyone’s throat. Bore off
Where does she get these facts from the beano
@@redbeard3923 No.Lord Ali probably!?
fact checkers found it's actually 27% of pensioners are millionaires. the 27% have enough money, no more handouts for them, lets focus on helping the ones that arent millionaires.
Is that cash assets or house worth ?
@carolewynn9407 if you have a million in cash or assets or both mixed. A millionaire is a millionaire.
@jameslyon2338 So if your home is now worth a million, you're expected to sell up and buy something else ?
@carolewynn9407 if you're struggling financially, yes. Downsize.
@@jameslyon2338 You don't seem to understand anything about "waspi" women, or the fact that Starmer stated numerous times that it would be made right.
Obviously doesnt know any elderly people and has no morals, ethics or compassion.
Didnt think id ever see owen jones get out commied
As usual no evidence from the clueless middle class grace and favour found job.
SHE TALKS SO MUCH RUBBISH.
What absolute tosh! Waspi women are also tax payers, i know, i,m one of them, worked for minimum wage for most of my working life and have to watch every penny. Please educate yourself before spouting utter tripe..
What are Waspi women?
She needs to get her facts right! Does she not realise we waspi women paid towards the pensioners when WE WAS her age!! So if I had a private pension and they wanted to change the terms and conditions- they would need to contact me and discuss. The government was taking our money and did NOT inform us of such changes.
Private company would have to pay out compensation
So why shouldn’t the government?? All I can think is our government doesn’t seem to be fit for purpose.
Delusional.
BS statistic there.. another self entitled 20 something..
Only wanceers go on that show
25% my hole
Bullshit
Bollox
Owen not agreeing with Labour wonders will never….
An ombuddman has said what should happen and how much. Amount suggested is peanuts to the amount lost. Many lost the working years left to save for retirement. For many reasons. Illness is one. Being a carer for partners and elderly another.
Nothing is ever enough for these pensioners.
The current system is financially unsustainable.
Nothing lasts forever so stop moaning.
Get to work and pay for the pensioners.or are you claiming benefits 😂😂
When you have paid IN it should. An agreement with the Govt is an agreement. See?
@@janetmalcolm6191 Child benefit is means tested. Didn’t see complaints about that in 2013. Cut down on the luxuries.
@@erictaylor2831 you’re a socialist. Expecting everyone else to pay for your 20 year pension (which you didn’t pay enough in for).
Nobody should have got a state pension at 60!
You clearly are too young to know what life was like for women well into the 70's.
Life expectancy was 70 then. Was 10 years retired that unreasonable?
You don't want one then. Other countries have the age even lower. More sensible they are.
Other countries are lower. Mostly better as well.
@@janetmalcolm6191 Daft comment from you, I’ve paid since 16 now 53, I won’t get one at 60 though, or 65!
I can totally sympathise with these women, but don't forget, this is the generation that fought so hard for equality. Now that they have pension equality, they don't like it. You can't just pick and choose which type of equality you want ladies. You didn't once think of any of the tens of millions of men who had to work to 65 did you? 😂
It was the same with the cold weather payment ?? Suddenly all these arses on panel shows know how much everyone is worth .
Where the f do they getcthere information from Realistically who knows a millionaire pensioner?? Not any on my scheme
Is she for real ffs...
