Butter Chicken, but I have not tried many Indian dishes.
While in maharashtra u should have marathi cuisine not south indian
Btw service charges are generally optional at Indian restaurants meaning you can ask for a bill without service charges. GST is mandatory
The food was too expensive.. 🙄
Sorpotel, Vindaloo, Fish thali, mutton Biryani, Puri Bhaji, kebab, Naan, Roti, misal etc
"Gonna try all the food this country has to offer"😂😂😂 bro you'll probably live your whole life here and will still have something left to try.
wow, India. that's pretty neat. I love Indian food and I'm glad you are covering it.
I am completely on board with the dislike of hidden charges and expected tipping in restaurants, etc. As someone who has lived a lifetime in the U.S., those charges are still obnoxious and awkward.
Me too, when I visited London we went to try this Indian restaurant that was quite nice, until they tried to add a service charge for seating, which I politely refused to pay, by adding how that made no sense, I'm sure they got it out of me with some special math, lol. But I agree, it's insulting especially when it was expensive to begin with.
I agree. It's getting out of hand in the US.
You lived a lifetime in the U.S. so where do you live in the afterlife?
@@sutreB I would not be living at that time. Hence the "after" part of the word.
@RobertFithen How many lifetimes do you have? 🤔
So basically we can save the world if we all just started eating Indian food.
True😂😂
It's still the most fascinating food for me. And every time I'm surprised how good the veggie dishes taste. Also prefer the bread over rice.
Been fortunate to visit India twice, Goa 😊 real culture shock! Being from UK 🇬🇧 but what an amazing experience, from the food to the crazy roads, cows everywhere 😂 the beautiful kind people, enjoy your time in this colourful country ❤
And from what I hear Goa is like a light version of the real India?
@@bigal6755kinda. A lot of tourists visit Goa every year, both domestic and international so you could say it's very tourism based. And also it is heavily influenced by Portugese
The food in Goa is awesome you should try pork sorpotel there
@@bigal6755Goa has a fusion of Authentic Portuguese and Indian food
Indian food 3X a day, I'd be in heaven. I was actually eating Indian food as I watched, for breakfast: ) I'd love to try Madras curry in India, it's one of my favorites. I'd heard that American/German Indian restaurants serve their own version of Indian curries - I'm looking forward to more India videos from you to try to figure this out. I recently spent 26Euros on Amazon getting all the Indian spices I need to make different curries. As soon as my mint plant comes back to life I've gotta make that chutney.
What is Madras curry, which curry.?
Glad to see you in India. Have been following your Germany series. India is a vast country with diverse food, culture, language and whatnot. Hope you have a wonderful time here with lot of good memories.
It is those beautiful spices and breads that makes India's food so memorable. Thanks for taking us along Deana and Phil, looks like you are enjoying yourselves.
One thing I learned living in India. The further North you go the less hot or spicey the food...the further South the food is HOT!
U can reject to pay any service charges in billed amount ,in india there is a law which makes services charges optional ,but gst tax you have to pay
@rishisaxena7863 really bro?
I want to go back to India. I have been to Goa and I loved it there.
Goa is heaven you should try Uraak in Goa. It's like a local alcoholic drink which you get from March until May.
J/fyi, if you see service charge in any restaurant bill in india, you can ask restaurant to remove it.. Service charge is an optional fee, if you don't want to pay it, you can ask restaurant to remove it from your bill. Only SGST and CGST is a mandatory tax on every product..
Thank you! I was looking for this comment (to avoid typing myself)! Hope you get many likes so they see it.
Loved all the vegetarian food options you tried! I think India has got to be one of the easiest places to eat authentic vegetarian food. I’m definitely going to get there one day!! Hope you guys are having the best time traveling and can’t wait to see where you go next!
Bombay duck is not duck per say. The duck is actually a perversion of the Hindi work daak which means Mail. The fish used to come to Bombay from Kolkata in a train called the Bombay Mail. The abbreviation of the word being Bombil.
The spongy appam and delicate parotta both looked so yummy and like great vehicles for wrapping up tasty stews/curries! I also LOVED the looks of the fried Bombil fish! It looked like it may have had a cornmeal crust! What fun 😋
Love to use bread instead of cutlery 😁
@@bigal6755 yesss clearly the superior eating utensil 😂😍
14:14 Hi guys, I love your videos. I'm an Indian though currently living in Brussels. Just wanted to mention about the restaurant invoice, cgst and sgst are the central & state taxes respectively for goods & services which is mandatory. The percentage may change depend on categories. However you can always ask to remove service charges if you are not willing to pay, in this way you can save unnecessary costs. These charges are implied by the restaurant just like tips. If you want can tip the waiter directly but not important unlike USA. However enjoy guys, looking forward to see your upcoming videos. - Sailpik
Thanks for the explanation! But then I would ask myself, why not directly showing the final price per item on the menu?
@@TarikDaniel Because i guess its understood in India that you have to pay tax on restaurant food. However your are right in saying that it should be mentioned in the menu.
@@RanaAnkesh1 Every country has taxes on everything. Everybody knows about it. It's not hard to just state the final price - the price you will ultimately have to pay instead of these scammy tactics.
Different kind of food is being taxed differently it depends on the kind of restaurant plus type of food plus the amount of the turnover of the establishment. Takeaway is taxed differently catering is taxed differently. If that establishment has accommodation and you are staying there that has different tax rate if you are visiting just the restaurant part you get taxed different rate. That’s very complicated that’s why the taxes are added at the bottom plus if you run a business every time you pay GST on any service or purchase you can get rebate for that amount when you are filing your GST so having GST mentioned separately makes it easier you don’t have to calculate the GST for state gov and GST for Central gov on every bill you paid.
Hope I made is easier to understand I know it’s too complicated which it shouldn’t be.
Just for the example if a restaurant also sells alcoholic beverages you pay 18% GST
If it just serves food you pay 5%
They put service charge at the bottom because the service charge is non taxable and voluntary if they add all that in the cost of the food item it will be charged at 5% or 18% depending on the type of establishment.
@@akshaynyaharkar And you say all restaurants make this complex calculation between guest ordering their food and asking for the receipt? Or would they rather determine the tax amount for each item on the menue in advance and just push a button on the POS when a customer requests the receipt? What do you think is more realistic?
I love Indian food and hope that I can go to India one day! 💖
Tasting food before we order it is really something good and useful even if you are familiar with that food it still help.. Salute to the owner who offering such kind gesture😮😊
Ich liebe die indische Küche ❤ viel Spaß in diesem lauten, bunten Land
U can refuse to pay service charge and ask restaurant to remove it from bill. The 5% of service tax is mandatory and it goes towards govt tax ( similar to sales tax).
The content of last weeks are amazing, you're on fire 🔥 How is India so far? 😁
Love all the veggie options by the way.
Also i'm rewatching some of the +- €10 daily eat challenges. Would love to see some more of that kind of videos when you're back in Germany as prices raised much by inflation.
It's a cultural experience! Thanks for rewatching! That's a great idea for when we're back. Prices have increased like crazy! RIP good Döner prices.
Thanks for giving the price for each dish, makes me feel like a little connection with the food. Good luck.
6:07 Reminds me of Injera which is a fermented flatbread made of teff flour and staple in Ethiopia; it is similar in texture to appam of India which is made of fermented rice and coconut milk. Vegetarian dishes in India are flavourful, delicious, as well as nutritious. The really spicy foods are in the southern states Tamilnadu, Andra Pradesh and Telangana.
14:36 by Indian law you can ask the restaurant to remit the service charge or reduce of 10% but the tax if 2.5% each of center and state is mandate
U can visit south India u can see variety of different foods temples heritage and culture especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu it's amazing Kerala, munnar, kochi, wayanad, Ooty, coimbatore, manglore, Gokarna, Coorg, Bangalore, Mysore, Alleppey, Karnataka, world heritage site tanjavur bruhadeeshwara temple in tamilnadu
A curry tasting sounds amazing! What a great idea, especially if you're not used to the food.
Some of the buildings are very beautiful and I like the tropical foliage 👍🏻
in india you can ask the restaurant to waive off the service charge if you dont want to give it !! we do that quite a lot
I've only eaten butter chicken and tikka masala. The dishes you tried look nice. I will have to try it at the Indian restaurant near me.
Indian food outside India is quite bad ( I am Indian).
@matgranger5061 if the owners are Indian is it still bad?
@@devind132 Yes, there will always be difference between the spices available in India and outside.
@@devind132unfortunately yes
nice keep trying more, what states you gonna hit up? Try the biryani in each state... the state your in is known for vada pav, and pav bhaji
Are you a mind reader?! Next video we might be trying some that you mentioned!
Maharashtra has the most diverse cuisine of the entire country . only north garam masala !d!0ts associate us with vada pav and whatever
Yum! Looks amazing. 🎉
My favorite curries:
Gravy: tomato cashew masala
Dry: chilli baby corn.
Looks delicious!
Wow. Some dishes are really expensive considering the income in India.
Love madras curry. Love the food. Lucky you. Yum
Tolles video, welches essen war dein Lieblings? Ich hatte auch Indisch Essen in Deutschland gegessen und es war über lecker! ❤
That's a lot of interesting looking food. Indian restaurants in other countries simply can't compare to the original I suppose.
Nope..Not even close
Trader Joe's has a killer bbq jackfruit, that is imitation pulled pork, it tastes great!
The food prices are fantastic just like the food
Watching your video whilest eating. Why do i get more hungry? Looking forward to your other video's. The inspiration is amazing.
Safe travels🍀
hehe we too get hungry while editing!

Love to see u r reaction A big thank u to u come to my country and explore everything very well.god bless u and lots of 💕💕💕💕💕
WOW you just tried few SOUTH INDIAN Cuisine dishes also in MUMBAI Lovely...
Compared to the average Indian income, some of the prices are really high!!
Nice colorful video and great looking food.
We had to ease into it. We'll visit more budget options in the next video!
2k -3k is ok for middle income Indian people it's not that high
@@rishisaxena7863 'The median salary in India is 29,400 INR. This means that 50% of the Indian population earns less than this amount and the other half earns more than this figure. (2023)' Normally, wages are mentioned as gross income, so tax has to be subtracted.
I am well aware that there is a fast-growing middle class in India with a lifestyle more similar to European or US standards than to India of the past, and i only hope that this process is going on strong. But i explicitly mentioned *average* income, and most Indians are pretty good at maths 😃 and understand the difference between average and middle class income.
@@uweinhamburg In Mumbai, the average monthly salary is high i.e., around 50000 INR.
Don't forget, 50% of India means 90% of Europe's population.
India's median salary has increased. Currently, it is 33000 INR.
Hey Deana & Phil HRU"ll ? Luv watching yr mouth watering yummy delicious food luv fm India ❤️❤️❤️
I have lived in the United States for 63 years and not once has any restaurant ever added any kind of service charge or tip or anything😂😂😂
As you are already paying the service charge gst in the bill. You can ask the restaurant to remove the service charge they charge separately in the bill.
I’d love to travel to India, it looks so busy though 😩
Go to Kerala, Ladakh, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Coorg.
Always avoid the golden triangle like Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Jaipur.
It’s a very vast country..Majority of the foreigners travel to Delhi,Mumbai,Kolkata,Agra,Kerala etc which are really crowded..
But if you travel to the north(Himachal Pradesh,Uttarakhand,Kashmir) or North East(Arunachal Pradesh,Sikkim,Meghalaya) etc it’s not crowded at all and the scenery is breathtaking
Also you can just visit Goa and drink, party and have the time of your life
You will find different tastes in every different district
and sometimes same thing with whole different flavour
Really need alot of years to explore Indian food because just too many options
U had South India food in Mumbai 😂
boy these prices must be super tough for indian standarts o_O
Expensive for the average indian. But he has more choices at lesser expense.
In india that tax is for GST goods and service tax, the small street food owners do not that GTS BUT at maximum places you have to give.
We indian also give that
You can tell the restaurant that u don’t want the service charge to be included in the bill and they will remove it
Try Bengali food in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. You will love it. Eat at some good restaurants, like in this video.
Great food reviews 😋🍽😋🍽
I'm not a curry fan but the food looks pretty good and it's very reasonably priced❤
*If Possible You Guys Can Consider To Have A Food Tour of a City ..There are so many food guides available which will take you to famous and some really amazing food joints which will elevate your experience .. Hope you guys are having great time .. Please Visit Us Again .. Namaste From India* .. 🙏🇮🇳
Would like to see you in Czech Republic or Greece ;)
service charge is not compulsory and you can ask them to remove. You can tip them if you like the service.
As for the tax you have to pay that extra 5%.
Hope it helps :) and Welcome to India. :)
If you guys are in india now, When you visit any restraunt and if they add service charge in your bill its upto the customer to pay the service charge. But you have to pay GST.
Did you have Vada Pav in Mumbai? It's a street food, sort of like a burger. There is something about eating Vada Pav in Mumbai. Doesn't taste the same anywhere else.
Thank you for using correct map 👏👏
You two are awesome!
Guys, service charge is optional. It is declared optional by the government. So you can ask the waiter to not add service charge before bringing the bill. They'll do it happily. Also, tip waiter instead of just filling the pockets of the restaurant owner, cuz they don't pay the poor waiters from their service charge.
Hey Phil just to clarify on the ”hidden charges” you mentioned GST - Goods and services tax is charged differently so if you are eating at a Restaurant which only serves food you will only get charged at 5% but if you are visiting a establishment where they serve Alcohol you will be charged 18%. Similarly if you are visiting a place where there is accommodation and if you are living there you will get charged less amt as tax and if you are visiting only the restaurant part you will be charged more tax. Also the tax you paid at the bottom of the bill SGST (state part) and CGST(central gov part ) can be claimed from your income tax with the GSTIN no ( which is mentioned on your bill and unique to that establishment) and copy of bill while filing your taxes. And the part of the service charge that is total voluntary if you do not wish to pay that you can tell the restaurant that you are not paying that amount and that is not added into the food cost because it is non taxable if you add that part in the food cost that will also be taxed.
Omg as an Indian I completelyy loved watching the videoo, loads of love❤️❤️🫶
Service charge is ban in India but there is low awareness about it
You don't need to pay service charge , it is not necessary you can ask for the bill without it
You can never try every food that India has to offer as the food culture changes every 20 km that you travel.... Hope you achive your dream 😊
First restaurant was expensive af
So happy to see more people exploring India please do visit Bangalore and costal areas like Kerala
Look out for electrical wiring. A lot of Indians are going early to Vishnu.
GST operates under a dual structure, comprising the Central GST (CGST) levied by the Central Government and the State GST (SGST) levied by the State Governments.
Service Tax is a type of indirect tax that is collected by the Government after consuming the taxable services provided by travel agents, restaurants, cable providers, cab services etc. Service tax was announced in the year of 1994 as a part of the Finance Act per section 65.

This was really interesting, I’ve never been to India and probably will never go as it does not seem to be my cup of tea, but I love seeing it through yalls eyes and getting a sense of it in general. Those restaurant sneaky surcharges though, eeek lol. I don’t like that either and wish the US would hurry up and move away from our old framework of tips as part of employee pay since it’s often unfair and just a lot of time and trouble added to end of meal. This is why I don’t usually eat out 😅.
Thank u for showing real map of India ❤❤❤
Never seen soft Mysore pak... It was soft like 🤔
Thats the best place you cpuld have chosen for your intro, thabks a lot for carrying forward the tradition of stereotyping india👏🏻
Paneer is not "cottage cheese" or "tofu" for future reference. They are totally different processes. Yes Paneer has similarities with cottage cheese but is different.
Interesting, I’ve always been told by Brits Madras was created in Britain, kinda like how chow mein was created in the US.
Also, btw, mutton and lamb are not the same. It’s kinda like the difference between beef and veal only in sheep.
Brits also claim Butter Chicken, even tho it has been around way before.
@@notbanksy2977 yes, that I did know about, but I have yet to try the original version which looks awesome.

I love Indian food. I could never go there, even as a westerner living in a city, India is too loud and too crowded for me. What was that bang sound at the end, sounded like a bomb
You can visit Kashmir it is the Switzerland of India, with Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
Gulmarg is a skii resort and it snows in that part of India.
I have a playlist of Mizo songs. Mizo music is like 1970s USA and the Mizos look like Thais.
So, you see a few cities in India and think the entire country is like that? Are you that dense?
These are not hidden charges on your food bill. The furst is the service charge (you may omit the tip if paying the service charge or refuse the service charge and drop in the tip).
The second one is the 2.5% of Centeal Goods and services tax and 2.5% of State Goods and service charge. These are to be paid by all amd mandatorily reflected in the food bill (finally paid to the state amd central govt).
No hidden charges in your bill.

at 11.15 - "All I am tasting is mint chutney and it is so good BUT ...."
A chutney is a condiment (a substance such as salt, mustard, or pickle that is used to add flavor to food) and there has to be a limit to what you add to the main food item. Looking at how you eat food completely baffles me most of the time. A suggestion - Please watch some food videos of the country/place before your visit and see how others eat it to get an idea.
