The Architects of Illmatic - Danny Clinch

- The day of Nas' Illmatic shoot, photographer Danny Clinch was given a simple run of show by the teenage emcee. "Let's just walk around my neighborhood. My friends are gonna be there. We're gonna sit in the park, drink gin and juice and smoke blunts. And you'll photograph it." The resulting images are nearly as iconic as the music itself. As #IllmaticXXV approaches, Clinch himself recalls the moment. #Hennessy

What started as a humble graffiti ‘zine in 1996 would soon grow to be one of the most trusted outlets for youth-spawned urban culture. Today, Mass Appeal is a media collective led by authentic voices and inspired minds. We are a platform for radical creatives who are transforming culture. - Розваги
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photographer interviewed about their work on album. That’s how prolific this album is
B right 🎯🎯
I was just thinking the same thing...
Nas had the greatest support system. That’s what also made this album great. Every producer cared about that album more then themselves and everyone wanted nas to make it and live. That’s what makes this album great. It’s simply an album of pure love
Classic! Transcendent. Historical. Salute to the GOAT NASIR
His photography is life! From color to black & white. He makes the hood look classy
M C Shutcho ass up. Ain’t nothing corny about it. Don’t like the term? Than fuck off. Nobody asked for your bitch ass opinion
@@nolanflemmings9304 lol
The backcover of the Vinyl just captures the vibe of the album
It took me time to fully appreciate the cover art for Illmatic but I came around finding out how simplistic yet sufficient it was and how it fits the album’s tone so well. I mean it’s « « just » » a double exposure of young Nasty and his hood but damn the grain, the colours, the kid’s facial expression it speaks for itself really.
Classic album, thanks for the serie Mass Appeal
I hope we get to see the unreleased photos as well
its interesting to me that sometimes people from outside hip hop culture have a better appreciation for an artist like NAS than most hip hop heads and media
He done a great job. He Captured the essence of the record perfectly.
Wow Illmatic came out when i was 4 days before turning 1 years old
He had on like a ah a ski suit... and I was like woaaaaahhhh holy sheet man!!!
Mr. Danny!!! & Nas Incredible.
Salute to the Goat!! Your music always gives me chills.

The greatest fucking album ever point blank!
This is amazing.
This is extremely dope.
EVERYTHING about this album is 10/10
"Biggie's Ready to Die album came out several months after Illmatic, and Biggie was crowned king of New York in the popular culture of Hip Hop heads, Ready to Die unfairly over-shadowed Illmatic, which is truly a classic album. Though they were quite distinct artists, they innovated in analogous ways. Biggie merged language that was high and low, vernacular and vocabulary words, in a way that sounded natural. He did this with a sophisticated understanding of the patterns of black language. When a different or unusual word or phrase could be introduced while still maintaining the aesthetics of black language, he inserted it.
NaS, in contrast, merged concepts that were high and low, vernacular and metaphysical, in a manner that was whole rather than pieced together, thus presenting a complex that is unusual in any music outside of jazz. What Biggie started to do with language in 1994, NaS had already begun to do with ideas on Illmatic. He carries us through the "Righteous steps" of the cosmic, oceanic, and literal dimensions of his person. He transcends." - Imany Perry (Born To Use Mics)
