20% was too high, totally understandable. This product will make a million dollars overnight. Easy decision here. Cindy values her company at $4 million. Lori offers $200,000 for 20% at a value of $1 million. Kevin offers $200,000 for 5% plus the $1 million royalty deal maintaining the $4 million valuation. Easy decision here.

@@shemmy95 can u explain to me why foes valuation matter? Im so confused over valuation. I understand the equity that someone owns more. But what purpose is valuation? Is it to just have a say of how much to sell the company?
@@zoomfoom890 if the company was too sell then they would judge it upon the last valuation. So if I invested in your company at a valuation of $1m then on the same day it's worth $1m. Then the next day it will have a multiple (or a down grade depending on a number of factors i.e. sales).
Then the other aspect of it is, if I was too invest $1m today and you need to raise more money, because I'm Theo Corleone I've made your business worth more because of my name in the market so the valuation shoots up now, you can raise more money for less capital.
Thirdly if she made the right calculation (even though it's forecasting, what are items worth i.e. patens or stock, etc.) Then why would she give it a discount. She adds value as well.

@@zoomfoom890 valuation matters for many reasons. First it matters when a company eventually sells it to another company (plated for example sold to Albertsons for 320m). It also matters when raising capital either through selling stock or getting loans. And as an owner/share holder wouldn't you rather have a 100m company than 50m?
Whenever Lori knows a product is going to make millions of dollars she’ll always take such a large amount of equity. Then barely negotiates and ends up not getting the deal. You’d think she would’ve learned by now.
Kevin often gets entrepreneurs a better deal by squeezing the other sharks’ deals. Nice to see him win one! Lauri was extremely cocky

Kevin tends to invest for the long run either when the company sales and he has a 5-10% stake which is fair since he invested at the start and helped them to get it going, or if it grows and now he owns a piece. He only asks for 25%⬆️ when there's "more risk" involved which to him is if the entrepreneur doesn't have a legit plan to scale or evaluation. In the end it's on the the entrepreneur. If they believe they can do a majority on their own they will take an offer with Kevin.

9/2022 update - During the Shark Tank pitch, Wad-Free’s valuation was at $4 million. But, after Cyndi’s successful deal with Kevin, sales of the product took off, and it is extremely likely that the net worth of the business is higher than what it once was valued at.

20% of the company is too much to give up. If she wanted to have a bigger chunk of the company, she should have offered more cash, it should have been 450k for 20 percent, which is a more fair offer.

Here's the thing it's not necessarily a bad thing if a shark wants a big chunk of the company. That means they're going to be vested in you until the exit. Where everyone will make millions of dollars. Whereas a lot of Kevin's deals especially the royalties that end are basically he just wants to make a quick cash grab and then be out. He's not going to be as vested in the company at 5%. If I'm going to Shark Tank I'm ready to give 30% to the right shark cuz best case scenario you go for the exit, and they will want to angle for the exit all the more the more of your company they have. Then you move on to the next product or the next company with your earnings.
Lori values herself based on what she can put on the table and i think that’s fair and would gladly accept her offer.
I find it odd that nobody pointed out that there is a solution for this that is FREE...Before putting a flat sheet in the dryer, put all the corners together and straighten the sides. Tie two corners together into a loose knot. Put it into the dryer, and the sheet dries without ending up in a ball.
