You know its world famous football clubs.
You know its world famous derby.
But what you probably didn't know, is that in the same region of Italy just 40 minutes up the road, there's two other clubs who have just as fascinating rivalry of their own that involves tanks, pigs, and medieval battles, but hasn't seen a derby in thirteen years.
Until now.
Off the back of our insane trip to Superclåsico in Buenos Aires, Derby Days is back for season 5 and this time it's all about "The Wait". The intense rivalries between clubs from England to Germany to Italy that haven’t met for 7, 8 even 13 years. What happens to a rivalry when there’s an absence of meetings? Is it a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder or is the rivalry even more heated thanks to the anxious wait?
In Episode 3, the final episode for this season, we head to Lombardy, Italy, for the first derby in more than a decade between Brescia Calcio and Atalanta B.C. Two clubs who share a rivalry that goes way beyond football and into every facet of local culture from the dialect to the food to the culture of war and violence in the region. Despite being provincial neighbours, different time spent in different divisions meant the two had been suffering their longest derby drought, until this season, where they would both finally meet in Serie A.

As a person from Bergamo I would like to thank everyone involved in making this documentary which goes beyond the actual football game. Most of the international football fans know about Atalanta and Brescia (Fifa, Champions League, Pirlo, Baggio...) but very few of them would know about both cultures, lifestyle, history and various traditions that distinguish these cities and football clubs from the rest of Italy.

I love the way they do it. I think that is what I love about football in europe so much, when compared to the sports in the U.S.
There's so much local culture and history in those old clubs and their fans and members. The passion is just completely different to the commercialized sports in the U.S., where clubs are basically businesses of an owner and teams regulary move cities etc.
It's also something we need to protect better from corporate greed.

As an Italian, Atalanta and Brescia gave a massive contribution to Italian football, they have probably the best academys in Italy
Michele Di Napoli i never knew how embedded these clubs were into italian football. I root for Napoli cause half of my italian family is Neapolitan, but I respect the passion and work ethic of Bergamos and Brescianis. Never understand the North vs South distaste 😒
@@flabuzzsports7649 North vs South is because Northern regions are closer to France and Germany and they had a lot of industies, South has been always isolated when the Spanish left and when Italy got united in 1861 there were Industries in the North and in the South still had Feudalism, so southerns say North is stealing their resources as men power, North says southerns don't wanna work and they are lazy. And this is something damanging whole Italy
Michele Di Napoli thank you for explaining it. Even though I grew up in the USA, My moms family is Roman and Neapolitano. But I have always thought a united Italy is a better Italy. I know Italy has had a very turbulent history, but hopefully the North and South can come together more in the future for the betterment of the country as a whole. I know I have my own ideas on how Italy can be better, at least economically (recreational marijuana), but I’ll keep those thoughts to myself lol

Atalanta have the best academy by far but brescia's one is literally shot,other bigs academy are inter, milan and juventus

An hour of perfection. I absolutely enjoyed how Italians see the game and their rivarlies differently then the rest of the world. To them, it is not only about football, but more about the culture, diversity of the provinces, and some minimalistic details that make Calcio unique. As a football lover from Serbia, I have a dream that one day life will give me the chance to experience all of the Italian derbies, and to feel the immense rivarlies from all the way up in Bergamo to the bottom of Naples.

- Belfast derby : Glentoran vs Linfield Town ( pretty fun derby, not the biggest or most mental) 🇬🇧
- Walloon derby : Standard de Liége vs Charleroi ( interesting derby + SDL is an amazing imo ) 🇧🇪
- Other belgian derbies : Brugges derby ( Cercle Brugge vs Club Brugge or Limburg derby: Sint-Truiden vs KRC Genk or Brussels derby: Union SG vs Anderlecht or Antwerp derby: Royal Antwerp vs Beerschot Antwerp)🇧🇪
- Munich derby: 1860 München vs Bayern München II ( amazing amateur derby + quite some history )

As a man from Bergamo and a football fan of Atalanta, i must say this is the most accurate video i have seen about our city, fans and stereotypes in general. As person from Brescia with tons of relatives in Bergamo's province, I honestly appreciated a lot your work you put onto this.
I mean, this should be really a documentary to be broadcasted in our provinces schools on how to get into English language. No kidding.

Eli, your skill for researching these derbies and listening to people is next level, the production quality gets better and better with every episode and the storytelling is so captivating. So sad that this couldn’t be a proper Derby with both sets of fans in attendance after all the build-up.
I was in Reggio Emilia when my Borussia Dortmund played Atalanta in the Euro League. The weather was shit, but their atmosphere was crazy, even tho they didn't play in their own stadium in Bergamo.

Can confirm they are really hard working people, probably unique in the world. Many of them came to Southern Switzerland (italian speaking part) to work hard and became really fast part of the society thanks to their attitude.
My grandpa is from Bergamo and worked for 40 years as a Truck driver in the dangerous streets in the alps.

I have been following this series for quite some time now. Firstly, its a beautiful series. The level of information shown is amazing. Well done to the researchers of the show. Secondly, the way this series showcases the cities in question, whether it's Milan, Berlin, Madrid or even Portsmouth is absolutely fantastic. The show could easily pass on as a travel show, but a travel show that has much better editing and camera work, unlike the ones we see elsewhere. Finally, after watching all these episodes one can definitely say that football truly is more than a sport. The way it unites or divides people, the way it is associated with the history of a city or province cannot be described. Thank you Copa90 for sharing such amazing stories and showing us such amazing scenes. I am from India and i dont know if i will ever be able to visit these places, but because of your efforts i feel like i am a part of these cities and their football culture. Thank You

This is just the best documentary ever made about the people of our provinces, and I am also talking about the non-football part. Pure culture. Maybe just Alberto Angela' s one is As good As this.

You need to come to Portugal to catch a Derby do Minho, between Vitória SC and SC Braga. It is the best derby in Portugal
@Nathan Lockley Benfica x Sporting is only the biggest in terms of club size and media attention. In Portugal, most view the Derby do Minho as the best derby in terms of the importance of the game for the teams
@Nathan Lockley minho derby comes from old rivalry, older than football. You don't go to guimaraes with a braga shirt you don't come to braga with a guimaraes shirt only on match day, the 2 towns hate each other, one of the most dangerous derbys in Portugal.
@Nathan Lockley guimaraes is a town in braga district, i prefer the match on guimaraes stadium its our(braga) "salão de festas" party room. Each clube has great ultras, 60 braga ultras whent to guimaraes just to fight 2 hours after the game

This is why I love Italy not just because of it's history it's fashion and cars but they are so passionate they even argue over where a pasta dish is made and how passionate they are about the beautiful game as well nobody can match it there 100% passionate about everything.

Thank you so much for staying true to this show, it's educational and brings out the word of derbies beyond AC Milan/Inter, Merseyside, Boca Jr/River Plate and rivalries like El Clasico, LFC/Utd, Dortmund/Bayern etc.
I still very much enjoy coming back to the different Balkan derbies. I'd wish their football leagues weren't so damn corrupt though..

This doc was amazing and shows how football in Italy is in a sad state. Getting a ticket to the stadium especially for away games, depends on where you are born or live, can be an auto ban. Unless you submit all your information to the state so they can control and monitor who goes to the stadiums. Racism is alive and well in Italy, and the they are racist towards their own the most...this is why the stadiums in Italy are empty. #31, Ultras Liberi...

I was on holiday in Bologna last year and saw a cup match between Bologna and Juventus (Ronaldo was shit it was hilarious), and the amount of security was ridiculous.
@John Mitchell That was totally different. You had players from every part of italy in that team. The captain of that team was from my neighborhood in Naples...
@@marcello_martini I was on the opposite end of the ground (where there were a mix of juve and Bologna fans, was a bit weird) but yeah nah it was impressive, especially for a meaningless cup match.
