    • @haydencapps
      @haydencapps 8 місяців тому +14

      100% it's what I tell everyone at my gym too. Think of your arms as just hooks attached to your back which is doing the pulling. I usually recommend hooking the thumb over the top also. Not sure if that really does anything mechanically, but definitely seems to help people with understanding the hook thing and how it should feel.

    Going slow on the eccentric actually makes me feel my biceps a lot more on most back exercises. What works for feeling them best in the back (for me) is really letting my scaplulae move up/forward at letting my back stretch as much as possible, holding that stretched position for a bit and then explosivelly pulling towards myself and thinking about the movement coming from the elbows.

      Same exact thing for me. Doing how Mike describes is great for warming up my biceps before curls/arm day. But to really feel my back I have to focus on the movement of my scapula, shoulders forward slightly and pulling hard out of the stretched position. Controlling the eccentric is usually legit but just with this exercise burns out the wrong muscles before my back is hit good enough imo

    I started feeling my lat pulldowns after doing one arm lat pulldowns with one of the grips you would do cable Flys with. I focused on bringing my arms as close to my side as possible when pulling and then leaning and kind of rotating my Torso a bit to one side for maximum lat contraction.
    I would suggest looking up a video on how to properly flex the lat and cramp it, then do that with a one Arm lat pulldown with weight for both sides.
    This can also be applied to any muscle you're trying to work. Just look up how to fully engage the muscle and REALLY CRAMP IT without weight and then pull weight while trying to achieve the same thing.

    Dr. Mike this was never answered before in your videos. What about the effect on joints with slow eccentric motion. I would love to slow down the motion but most of the time my joints start to give up way before the muscle. Like even simply with lats pull down, I did exactly what you described here, but my wrists gave up much earlier. This is such a struggle for me, as I would love to change my style completely to follow this.
