I had the chance to attend his basketball camp when I was 12 and when I was flying home to LA he and his family was on the same flight. He sat with me and gave me a pair of his sneakers as well as took the time to meet my parents when we arrived in LA. A true class act. Not only a great player but a better person. RIP and God Bless
I had a horrible experience at that camp. CornNuts have haunted me ever since. I had a good coach though. Paul Westphal wasn't there during my camp time though. I did get to interview Coach Westphal in Feb of '93, which was a great experience. ua-cam.com/video/eftB4mnvyU4/v-deo.html
Condolences to the Westphal Family and to the greater Suns family. We should all take a moment to respect this great Hall Of Fame and PHX alumni. Rest in peace Coach
I never knew him, but I loved watching him play. The smoothness and acrobatic play. I wanted to be like him, so I used to deliberately misspell my surname Westfall on grammar school tests. I couldn’t be ambidextrous but I could come close in that way 😉
Deeply saddened in my heart to hear that one of the best shooters I grew up watching and idolized and a great role model has passed. I’ll miss you sir and thanx for the memories
fell in love with him June 4, 1976, he was special, a winner, a great athlete, gentleman and a role model, he is not resting in peace, he is dancing in heaven.
What ONE IDIOT, would come on this PAUL WESPHAL TRIBUTE, and give this GREAT person, player, man a thumbs down? God bless the entire Westphal family. 🙏🏾🤎🙏🏾
RIP Mr. Westphal. I didn't know much about the man but i did know he was one of the greats so my best wishes go out to the Westphal family and another tragedy has happened in such short time.
Sad to hear about the passing of the great Paul Westphal. One of my first memories of watching NBA was when the Suns played the Bulls in the 1993 NBA Finals including the triple overtime win against the Bulls. Although they lost, the Suns won fans not only from Arizona but around the country. I'll always remember that magical season including the fans who braved the 100 degree heat to cheer on the Suns team. Condolences to his wife and children. R.I.P
@@alphadrewaz88 Truth! I still haven't forgotten that ride. Until this day, I play the game of basketball because of that Suns ride to the Finals. I shoot every shot as if it counts towards the Suns winning. It truly was magical.
Paul was a substitute coach in the playoffs at his and Adams camp in 76’ and coached our last place team to a victory over the number one ranked team. I wondered if he remembered that. I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago.
Never knew of him before the '93 season (I followed Barkley, who was my favorite player). Over the years, I gleaned more and more information about Paul just by reading things and watching things about Barkley and the Suns in general and came to realize just how good of basketball man he was. Very surprised by his passing, I wish his family nothing but the best and truly hope he is enjoying his time in heaven.
How his former players keep in touch with him that show lots of respect and love great player and led the sun best record and made to final although we came short but it was memorable season for the phoenix sun he will be greatly missed rest in peace coach
Amen my Brother. I know you are watching over us in Heaven with Cotton. We were blessed to have you as both a player and a coach Paul. Nothing but love for you. 💜🙏☄️
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. My first two years of college were spent at USC. I did NOT know that Paul Westphal could dunk! Compton and Watts are the known bad areas. I perceived Torrance "as a safer area." I saw "Kikka Sushi Company, Inglewood, California" on our cafeteria sushi packages at USC. When I learned that Harold Miner and Lisa Leslie grew up in Inglewood, I knew that Inglewood was a place that I did NOT want to go to!!
If Westy was playing right now in the NBA right now against todays players instead of 45 years ago, he'd still be one of the top 4 guards in the league. He was that good.
thought about him couple of days ago now found out he passed. shed a tear for the great coach of those suns I was rooting for back then. damn, this saddens me like hell. thanks Mr. Westphal, from an italian fan.
I actually missed hearing the news of Paul’s death. I remember him as a player here in New York as well as reading the box scores and seeing all the pints and assists this “
Still can't believe he is gone. Wasn't alive to see him as a player, but just old enough to remember him as the Suns coach during the glory days of the 90s. Got a chance to finally meet him during the suns 50th anniversary, 90s night in 2017. He was very kind, humble and thrilled to give me an autograph. RIP Westy.
Suns can reclaim first place today. What a magical season its been thus far, I know Westphal would've been proud and happy to see the Suns be #1 again. Smiling down from heaven.

Yes we should
and player
My favorite Sun of all time. The 360s were amazing.
One of the reasons I wore #44... Westy will be missed by not only Suns fans but everyone who loved the game...
Nah just Suns fans

Somtimes its not about winning or losing but the journey you take. The journey we all went on in 1993 was truly special.

This one hurts, truly one of the good guys of the NBA.
Well done, Westy! Well done! A champion on the court as well as off the court. Well done!
Westy was a helluva player as well as coach R. I. P. Westy
worst start to the year 2021. I hope the year does not get any worse. RIP
Let's be realistic 2021 will be no different than 2020
2021 has not been kind to #44.
Floyd Little, Paul Westphal, Hank Aaron. All greats, all Hall of Famers in their sports
Basketball genius 👊🏿🧠

Beautiful tribute. RIP, Westy.
I wish NBA TV would do the same thing show some of his greatest game as a player and a coach

That was a high character team. Thunder Dan, Charles, KJ, Ollie Miller. He was the perfect coach for it.

R.I.p. coach. P.s. Paul Rudd could play you in a movie. Blessings Westphal family

Paul was the first to do the two handed tomahawk dunk
