The way Mas Amedda was always so Stoic during Senate gatherings in the movies. You would think he knew everything going on right away.
Well he kind of acts differently in TPM, wich takes place before the reveal, while AOTC and ROTS happen after Amedda discovered the truth.
He was also an alien. Do we really expect him to have the same emotional range as a standard human?

Something not mentioned in this video is that in Legends, many people of the galaxy still know of the Sith by the time of the Prequel Trilogy, because of their devastating actions across history. In Canon, they are almost completely unheard of outside the Jedi Order, because of their thousand years of secrecy.
The Legends of the Sith were to people like Senator Amidala.....like the Soviets were to Millennials.

Dooku did not let everyone know and those he allowed to even believe he was a Sith, many believed he was a self identifying boaster (including Obi-Wan) unqualified to be thought of as more than a Dark Jedi.
The galaxy did know of Dark Jedi as criminals with lightsabers but True Sith were believed defeated for a long time.

From the clone wars series, I knew that Mas Amaada knew more about Palpatine than most people but whether he knew about his true identity was left up in the air.
25,000 years of democracy🤦🏻♂️, as impressive as Palpatine may have been in successfully destroying the Jedi and republic. 25,000 years of democracy, neither Palpatine nor the Sith Empire lasted that long.
Republic had it's share of difficulties in legends, and some Sith regimes lasted thousands of years. However this is not because of their "better way" but because they were hiding. First Sith empire founded by the dark jedi exiles lasted 2000 years because they inhabited a part of the galaxy that was difficult navigate and explore and the republic had no idea they had even survived. They were only as successful in the great hyperspace war as they got element of suprise on their side, but couldn't keep up the offensive and were defeated by republic counter offensive.
To be honest the Republic collapsed for such a short period of time, and so many senators maintained a will to return it that the empire is just a minor speed bump in its timeline. At worstt it should be considered a government in exile for like 30 years or so.
To be fair the Republic is just a coalition of sovereign planets joining together to serve their own interests, which makes it's longevity far less impressive.

The republic isn't exactly a republic as we know it, underneath its wide arms are all sorts of monarchies and dictatorships and tribes.

What happened to Mas Amedda once the Galactic Empire was formed?
He was promoted to one of the highest ranks in the empire
Served as Grand Vizier for many years. After Endor, he was put 'in charge' of the Empire, but then increasingly ignored by subordinates, and then they soon refused any orders from Coruscant altogether.
He tried to surrender to Mon Mothma later, but she refused until he could work out an official surrender deal for the Empire as a whole. Which he did after the battle at Jakku.

Mas Amedda became vice chancellor thanks to the machinations of Hego Damask, also known as Darth Plagueis. To tell the truth in the book Darth Plagueis it is revealed that he not only sabotaged the efforts of Finis Vallorum to rule the republic but he reported directly to Plagueis after each session.
Hmmm, I don’t remember that in the Darth Plagueis book. Lemme check and see if that’s the case, since the article on the Star Wars website never mentioned that and neither did the Legends wiki if I can recall

For 25000 years democracy had had its chance.....I just love that quote, it sums up his rationalisation in a simple yet brilliant manner
It also shows how stupid he was. If something as large and complicated as the Galactic Republic has maintained continuity and "worked" (more or less) for over a thousand generations, then you should probably stick with it to try to improve it rather than ditch it for a totalitarian dictatorship that committed more atrocities in 20 years than the Republic did over 6,000.

What if tarkin left the death star before it exploded? Say he decides to be cautious, and has his shuttle standing by. By sheer luck, he escapes the death star and rendezvous with imperial forces nearby. What would go differently?

@@notoriousblt1038 I think that's a possibility, but Tarkin was useful, truly loyal, and very clever, so I'd bet the emperor could be convinced to give him a second chance. I doubt he'd get to command another superweapon though, maybe an ISSD if he's lucky
@@declangaming24 I agree. I'd bet Tarkin gets a second chance, but not without some sort of punishment like a demotion and a dinky command in the outer rim. I think he'd probably remain a lesser official until RoTJ, when he'd possibly take command of a large imperial remnant using his cult of personality and mostly successful service record
Tarkin blew up Alderaan. An action which Palpatine had to personally cover up, and which made the rebels more popular than ever. I'm pretty sure Tarkin didn't have the authority to just blow up any famous world. I bet if he got back and not only blew up Alderaan, but also lost the death star, Palpatine would have murdered him twice.

Hey a thought occurred to me. I don't think that the process of how someone became Supreme Chancellor was ever explained. I mean episode 1 only showed the vote of no confidence which is a purely parliamentary procedure. What about when the times are normal?
