But, I wasn't ready for the mold smell in the bathroom. It seemed concentrated under the bathroom sink. I cleaned and cleaned and I even sprayed a layer of clear lacquer but the smell would not go away. It was a friend who recommended an ozone generator. Just be sure to not run the generator indoors while animals are present. Ozone is harmful to living animals (humans included), so run the generator, then AIR OUT wherever it was used before returning pets or people in enclosed spaces. I accidentally turned on my generator while it was pointed towards my face and it is a pretty strong irritant. Smells like an indoor pool (chlorine i guess) but once its aired out all the odor is gone and youre left with a neutral odor.

I just received the Enerzen 11000 model and plan to run this to get rid of dog and stale cigarette smoke odor in my apartment. Thanks for making and uploading this informative video, I was not aware of the 03 being such a potential health hazard. Glad I looked up a video. Thanks again, this info is truly helpful.
Does this mean to leave my heat pump air conditioner on and Ceiling fan on? I have a house that smells like cigarette smoke . Bought one of these Enerzen Ozone Generator 6,000mg Industrial O3 Air Purifier Deodorizer Sterilizer (6,000mg to run in my home. What about people food and pet food, do I remove it? Before using?
Is it safe to simply close off the room you’re sanitizing while the ozone generator is in use? Or do you need to completely leave the house with your pets, plants, and electronics for that time?
According to EPA, "If used at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone applied to indoor air does not effectively remove viruses, bacteria, mold, or other biological pollutants.". Furthermore, it is suggested that inhaling even relatively small amounts of ozone can cause sore thought, breathing problems like coughing, shortness of breath etc. My guess is better not to inhale it at all, if possible.
I know this is 5 months ago, but I would still like to say that I had an experience with mine... I thought it would be cool to use while working on my computer while it was running - BAD BAD idea for sure. After only a couple minutes, I found it hard to breath, and started coughing like crazy, and my throat became sore. I knew it must have been the ozone generator, and immediately un-plugged it. After about an hour my breathing came back to normal, and my cough and sore throat settled down. Wew!!. I won't be doing that again. Now when I use my ozone generator, I plug it in for a specific amount of time, and leave my home, and have not had any problems since I have been using it in that fashion. Hope this helps you or anyone else that may see this... Just thought I would put in my personal experience here, and thank you for your question which enabled me to share my story... ...Agata Rybicka is right for sure..., "that inhaling even relatively small amounts of ozone can cause sore throat, breathing problems like coughing, shortness of breath etc. My guess is better not to inhale it at all, if possible.".
I use an ozone generator to remove stubborn odors from refrigerator interiors. With a little patience it will achieve what no amount of manual cleaning can.👍

Hi! This is the comment I was looking for. I accidentally used to much "Proof" pest spray in my home... the smell is still fresh and wont go away. Would you recommend this Ozone generator?
Can you please advice me you mentioned that you worked in pest control and need your help. I accidentally come a cross this Channel by using ozone generator. Do you recommend using it and which company here in the states can remove the musty smell that drives me crazy!!
I have an Enerxen unit about the same size (physically) as the one you're holding in the video. It works great in automotive interiors as well. As you alluded to, it does leave a distinct odor on its own but that dissipates with reasonable ventilation. I also recommend using it in a storage shed or workshop on a weekly basis. Different units "cover" a different area of cu. ft. so purchase accordingly :D
Hey great video, do you think I can use it on my 100 year old clarinet, which still stinks after a deep clean with active soda and oil soap? It's made of grenadill wood and has a moldy smell. Also the preowner used some machine oil which got soaked by the wood, which has the smell of a very old stitching machine.. And also, can you get old wood furniture smell normal again? Kind regards
I know this is an old video but is there such thing as to big of an ozone generator? One I’m looking at is advertised as 36,000 mg/h plan to mostly use on cars but maybe on rooms of houses to
Important point! Ozone is toxic to humans. Be careful when operate this; 1- operate and evacuate the place. 2- ventilate the place after that with natural and outdoor air for a whole day.
Oh! And how to calculate the dosage 5000mg to 35,000 mg under what temperature and humidity and how long to run? Do you need to put it on a high place, bookshelf, ladders/scaffold with fans pushing up the heavier than air ozone for it to circulate everywhere? And have the intake part of the ozone box ducted to fresh air so that ozoned air doesn't pass thru the ozone generator again so that foul smell doesn't seep into walls, cabinets, everything and you have an unliveable house? Afterwards, does it have conversion time, where ozone breaks down to safe air? After airing out is it necessary to HEPA pfft vac and clean off the dead mold, mycotoxins and other pathogens? I know the questions but I don't have an answer. Nowhere can I find this info. Why?
I've gotten srayed by skunks couple times on the farm and after I get rid of the skunk I take off all my cloths and put them in a trash bag and turn on the ozone generator for a minute then and tumble the bag and ozone again with the bag sealed. After that my cloths dont stink.
Does this machine damage objects such as tv’s, electronic appliances and clothes? Do I have to cover these items before using this machine. If so, what do I cover them with?
In high enough quantiles, O3 can cause metals to corrode and some plastics/rubber to breakdown a bit. But it takes a LOT to do that. I've "bombed" my house and cars several times for 12+ hours straight and have never seen any damage associated to the exposure.
Hi, I had puppy pee odor used natures solution, some orange stuff, bleach; then, zinzer oil based enamel three coats. I suspect the chemicals soaked into something maybe drywall gassing off for ages. Concrete slab.. ceiling was untouched. Will this work? Thank you Smells strong bite of chemical like ammonia and small amount of bleach. Bites on the outside of nostrils.
I have a 1100sf three bedroom two bathroom house. If I buy a 30,000 mg ozone machine. Would you suggest I put in the living room to run it? Or do individual rooms one by one? Like close the room, run it, open the room, then close the other room, run it, then repeat? Thanks.
Getting the Ozone into each room is the key. So if that means doing them one at a time, then do it, but you can also try just opening the doors and circulating the air with fans or a forced air heating system, and see what that does. An 11,000 mg/hr machine is supposed to be good for 2,000 sq. feet, but that may take 3 hours. Doing smaller rooms will take a much shorter time with a 30,000 mg/hr machine.
Can you please tell me if this will help with a cat urine odor? Friend has house that she rented out (no pets allowed) renter brought in cat (s) and they sprayed/peed in the house. Carpet has been removed. Please help!!
Anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the smell the ozonator leaves in the room you ran the ozonator?? I have a horrible smell in a room that I treated with the ozonator for 3hrs ( which I now know is way way too long to treat a bedroom).
So it just neutralizes the odor of a particle, but doesn’t transform and remove the particle? So to remove cigarette smoke particles I still need to get an air filter that traps smoke particles within its filter?
Does it have a timer? so I don't have to get in the room to turn it on/off. Or it's not dangerous to be in the room for 1m wn it's working? I'm sensitive to fragrances & need to decontaminate my new unit & infected clothes (thirdhand smoking) from another roommate apt.
Hey Zach! Thank you for these videos! I've heard that the use of these ozone generators can cause increased corrosion on metal or react poorly with plastic or rubber. Of course, the information out there needs to be taken with a grain of salt I feel (on both sides - the "never use" and "always use" camps). Anyway, if treating a room once, is there concern for equipment located in that room? For instance, in a basement situation, should there be concern of piping, electronics, plastic insulated wiring, etc? Or, is the degradation of these components mentioned in reports due to long periods (months/years) of constant exposure?? Thanks!
We live in a 5th wheel full time and we have a smell under the front access/storage where we have had mice poop and pee we have since got rid of the mice and pests however there is a smell that's is present the area is about 8x6 that I would want to treat , will it work and should I vacate the RV while using ozone treatment under the storage:compartment
What temperature should my house be at? Also, do I need to put one in the basement if I have one on the main floor or does ozone sink so it's better to put it on the upper floors and not the lower floors? Just bought a house and it started smelling like cigarette smoke about a week after we bought it
The main thing is to circulate the ozone. Try the basement separately from the main floor, and individual rooms may have to be considered separately as well, depending on the machine and the time of exposure.
I can't figure out if you could use it in an apartment or not. I live in an apartment building. I googled and google and couldn't find any information. I have mold in my apartment.
Hi sir I do leather crafts if an leather has a certain smell will a ozone gen dissolve the leather room smell ,would it ve better to take all my leather out then set off the ozone gen then put the leather rolls back in that room
I just purchased one. I am a smoker and need to remove the odor of 5 yrs of cig smoke in order to rent my home. How long can i run it or do i need to do it several times.
You can run it up to 2 hours, but I'd recommend 60mins, must air it out afterwords for around 2-4 hours. Then re-evaluate, if the tar smell is still present, re do it, until all the smell is gone. Usually it can remove all bad odors in one try. Also be advised you must not stay in the area/rooms while doing it
I have this exact ozone generator. I've been using it since 2018. It's Effectiveness seems to have decreased a bit in the past year or so so I think I need to clean the corona. But otherwise it's been an excellent tool.
Great video and explanation of the ozone generator, how it works and when and how to use it safely! I am looking at a potential rental property that smells of cigarette smoke and I heard about ozone generators. Seems like a great solution to the problem! How big of a space is the one you have able to "treat"?
The manufacturer says this one will do 1200 square feet. I'd say the smaller the space the better. If you could go room by room and limit the space to say 200 sq ft that would be much better. It's all about getting a shock treatment.
Just curious if you ever did kill that smoke smell? We just moved into a rental property and the smoke smell is so bad. Wondering if it would be worth it to?
@@joooyceee100 It actually turned out to not be too bad. I did run the generator in a couple of the rooms but I'm not sure if that's what did it or if it was getting the crawlspace encapsulated and dehumidified. I ended up retuning the generator as I don't really have a use for it. You could always ask the landlord if they can try ozoning the property or something!
Everyone had an ozone generator when I was a kid in the 60s/70s. We called them "Blacklights" and they were cool. In the immediate vicinity of a working blacklight (UV light) you have ozone being generated. The UV light photons strike an Oxygen molecule in the room (O2), breaking it apart into two Oxygen free radicals. Other Oxygen molecules nearby become the victim of the O free radicals, being forced to accept it for a short time (O3). Ozone is what you get when simple Oxygen captures UV light. Ozone doesn't protect us from UV light, it's the product of the protection we get automatically from our atmosphere.
Ozone creates a smell when it's active and working. The ozone has a half life measured in hours. It won't linger after it has done it's job, just move in fresh air.
I have been using an ozone generator in my home non-stop for over 20 years. I also use it in my car when needed and when I used to sell real estate, in many of those homes. While I understand the science behind it, neither my family, pets (my dog lived for 15 years) or I have have had any problems with it. As a matter of fact, my allergies are exponentially improved with an ozone generator.
i've always wondered about this--that essentially 'it's a thing of semantics' to a point--and have yearned for some real-world offerings, such as yours. not discounting need for caution, education, and excercising good practice, but i wonder how much 'lawsuit culture' is at play here. Concurrently, i'd like to hear about the actual degradation of such things as plastics, trim, on furniture etc. thanks for your input.
StupiderThanJupiter My mother and I both had them (she died but she was just old)..we both had leather furniture, carpet and wood floors, etc...no degradation that seemed premature (i.e.; she had the same stuff for over 30 years). We both had pets that were not affected. I can’t speak for the experience of others, but I can say that in addition to our experiences, many of the other Realtors in my office had them in their homes, too, and swore by them.
Rocco74 Superhuman I have no clue beyond it being helpful with my indoor allergies, which, without the 03 generator, are quite severe to the point where I needed 2 daily medications.
How long after using will it take to remove the ozone odor? If I set it up, leave on a week long vacation, will the ozone odor be gone when I return? TIA!
How much would someone charge to do this service? I own an ozone generator similar in size to this and have someone who would like his home odors removed. This is an empty home and no one would be there. I presume I would do room to room. Would have to figure out for how long, but can’t figure out what I should charge.
He states that ozone exposure has "no long-term effects" to humans, but keep in mind that ozone is highly reactive and is great at producing free radicals. These should be avoided as much as possible. Use the timer for an appropriate amount of time for your particular usage and wait at least an hour after the end of the cycle before re-entering the space. Just my 2 cents.
Hey Alex, thanks for chiming in. You’re absolutely right, while ozone can be helpful when used properly, it is nothing to mess around with. I wasn’t aware of how ozone affects the human body at a cellular level. Indeed, free radicals are bad news and should be taken seriously.
I totally did the opposite an hour ago. I made an ozone maker out of 2 industrial units that are rated 24g/h each. Usually the one in the video are not more than 5g/h . I went overboard making the 48g/h. Just completed an hour ago, tested it for 10 minutes. I stood in the toom doing deep breathing, hoping it will purify me internally. and oops..... 😵 . Yes coughing, and sensative lungs, and nausea.... I went closed the room, and did clearing breathing exercise for a while. I am fine, while writing this message.
i bought a portable triangle shaped o3 ozone unit for 39$ a couple days ago and its more than enough. I could smell the weird metallic scent but nothing else so all i needed to do was air it out.
If I use in a home with centrail air can it be used to clear the smelly smell im ducts? Do I use with fan or air on ? Do I leave in front of the vent that sucls air in ?
Place it somewhere in the vehicle that has enough open space (like center arm rest or on the back seat). Let it run for a good while... I would start with a half hour depending. Also a good idea to run the car's ventilation system the temperature set to cold (A/C doesn't need to be turned on) and the recycle mode activated. Enjoy!
How long does the organic matter, let's say the sweater with the smell of smoke, take to die off once in contact with O3? So let's say I put my sweater in a box and pumped O3 into the box. Do the particles that cause the smell die immediately after being in contact with O3 or does it take X amount of time for the smell particle to break down?
I have a mobile home that I rent out and the carpet is a nightmare...if I run the ceiling fan on high to force the o3 down would it possibly be able to penetrate and eleminate or greatly reduce the odors? Also I'm assuming this works on ALL odors...my worry is there was rats in the ceiling at one time and would it be able to penetrate the ceiling panels and kill any of those smells too?
It should. I used a device with only a small amount of ozone and took care of the cat pee smell. But I did also use baking soda. Again, it only had a weak amount of ozone.
Thank you. This is a great video. I laughed, because it made me think of an Electric Vehicle. EVs cost a lot upfront, but maybe a better deal long term, because they cost less to operate, compared to living with an engine, spending money on fuel, oil, maintenance, and surprise breakdowns. And just like how an EV is expensive upfront, but will pay for itself in time. An Ozone-generator is a little expensive just to get, but will pay for itself in time, if you buy a lot of air fresheners and room deodorizers. And I imagine you just have to blow out an ozone-generator, or take it apart to clean it, and it basically lasts forever. I want one.
So if i use it in my room should I take off the linen, remove all clothes from the room and take accessories off my dresser? If linen is left there would I need to wash it?

Thank you!! Noticed a sign was placed with this information next door to apartment unit next to us. We complained about roaches coming to our apartment and figured it was them. They moved out. Also downstairs we think the same thing will happen. Nasty neighbors. We keep our unit clean and were frustrated with lack of response from management until we kept at it and forced them to come to our apartment and see the issue. We documented everything and let them know as well. They came quickly
Did the ozone help with the dog odor at all?
@@bigbowlowrong4694 Yes, they will remove any organic odor. But if the root cause is not removed, the odor will come back.

Hi! This is the comment I was looking for. I accidentally used to much "Proof" pest spray in my home... the smell is still fresh and wont go away. Would you recommend this Ozone generator?
Does this actually also works against bed bugs and mold?
Can you please advice me you mentioned that you worked in pest control and need your help. I got many companies to get rid of bad smell because dead rat died in between walls and no success in finding it. Now I tried several products but nothing helped me. I accidentally come a cross this Channel by using ozone generator. Do you recommend using it and which company here in the states can remove the musty smell that drives me crazy!!
They work phenomenally well in cars.
Hey great video,
do you think I can use it on my 100 year old clarinet, which still stinks after a deep clean with active soda and oil soap? It's made of grenadill wood and has a moldy smell. Also the preowner used some machine oil which got soaked by the wood, which has the smell of a very old stitching machine.. And also, can you get old wood furniture smell normal again?
Kind regards
I have two of these units. I use them in the vehicles and also in a rooms after a deep cleaning

It was very effective, almost too good. Took the smell out of all the smoking units, but also work very well for pest control
Do I need to turn off the AC or furnace when running an ozone unit? TIA.
No you don't. Circulating the air is recommended.
This is great. I'm gonna buy one to get rid of frequent smoke and weed odor from neighbors coming into my apartment
Sounds more like you should change neighborhood 🤣
I know this is an old video but is there such thing as to big of an ozone generator? One I’m looking at is advertised as 36,000 mg/h plan to mostly use on cars but maybe on rooms of houses to
Where does the ozone stuff come out? The front part with the switch or at the back?
In a room about 300sf, how long would that small unit need to run ? Roughly. ?
I just bought this model. Found at thrift store for $6! Works great ! Great video!
Important point! Ozone is toxic to humans. Be careful when operate this;
1- operate and evacuate the place.
2- ventilate the place after that with natural and outdoor air for a whole day.
Would this work for fibreglass resin smells?
Yes
Would you know if it is safe to use with pilot lights lit in the house? say, hot water heater, gas heater, gas stove. Thank you!
Yes it is safe
Glad to have some more real-world accounts of how effective ozone can be. I hope to never have to use it against skunk spray!
That's pretty frickin amazing

Does this machine damage objects such as tv’s, electronic appliances and clothes? Do I have to cover these items before using this machine. If so, what do I cover them with?
Did you find an answer to this?
In high enough quantiles, O3 can cause metals to corrode and some plastics/rubber to breakdown a bit. But it takes a LOT to do that. I've "bombed" my house and cars several times for 12+ hours straight and have never seen any damage associated to the exposure.

Doing smaller rooms will take a much shorter time with a 30,000 mg/hr machine.
what about more personal smaller models? thanks for your video!!

Anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the smell the ozonator leaves in the room you ran the ozonator?? I have a horrible smell in a room that I treated with the ozonator for 3hrs ( which I now know is way way too long to treat a bedroom).
Did it go away? I'm thinking to buy this thing soon but I don't know if it'll make my life better or worse
So even when the ozone removes the smell from the smoke particals, the smoke particals will still remain latched onto surfaces?
What will be the average ozone output & timing for a midsized car ?
There's a youtube video of a guy doing that. While it depends on the output of your generator, 30 minutes should do it.
So it just neutralizes the odor of a particle, but doesn’t transform and remove the particle? So to remove cigarette smoke particles I still need to get an air filter that traps smoke particles within its filter?
The particles are transformed/neutralized by the free Oxygen molecule. No filter involved.
So, how long will you on this O3 machine to treat a bedroom size approx 50m2?
Does it have a timer?
so I don't have to get in the room to turn it on/off.
Or it's not dangerous to be in the room for 1m wn it's working?
I'm sensitive to fragrances & need to decontaminate my new unit & infected clothes (thirdhand smoking) from another roommate apt.
The Enerzen brand on eBay has a timer. Short exposure, like smelling the air to see if it's present should not be a problem.
Thoroughly clean the area first, and then treat... it will work with enough use. I would leave the area for at least a couple of hours after use.
I want to run it in a basement, how long should I run it?
Would that work for a burn something in my house and it smells the whole house smells like smoke😳
They are used in apartments all the time. Just evacuate while it's going, wait an hour, and then air it out too.
Hi sir I do leather crafts if an leather has a certain smell will a ozone gen dissolve the leather room smell ,would it ve better to take all my leather out then set off the ozone gen then put the leather rolls back in that room
Leave them in the room. The Ozone dissipates after the generator stops.
After shutting off the ozone machine, how long should people wait to go back into the home?
Ideally 3+ hours.
Can two ozone generators be used at the same time or could they interact dangerously?
No they would not interact dangerously, just increase the ozone accordingly.
@@ZachFields how may houdx do you recommend for a 750 square foot apartment?
I have one and have used it for pet odors. How do you get the ozone smell out?
Ozone creates a smell when it's active and working. The ozone has a half life measured in hours. It won't linger after it has done it's job, just move in fresh air.
Is it safe to use these in a home with gas appliances: stove, water heater, furnace?
Yes
i recently quit smoking weed and it's been about a month and I can still smell it inside, would this solve the issue?
breh, watching this video again but for the hurricane lol
Concurrently, i'd like to hear about the actual degradation of such things as plastics, trim, on furniture etc. thanks for your input.
hi! So do you think .the Ozone generator is also good for killing all the Viruses ? Like is cod-19 ?
That's a big part of why I made this video. There doesn't seem to be many accounts of real-world experience with these machines available online.

Time and materials works for me.
Exactly! The free radicals will be absorbed in the system and oxidize within the body!

Most probably yes ...
will this also get rid of cannabis
smells?
Just don't stay in the room while it's running.
What are some steps and precautions to use one in a vehicle?
It’s instantaneous for the most part.
Is it safe to run in house
I have a mobile home that I rent out and the carpet is a nightmare...if I run the ceiling fan on high to force the o3 down would it possibly be able to penetrate and eleminate or greatly reduce the odors?
Also I'm assuming this works on ALL odors...my worry is there was rats in the ceiling at one time and would it be able to penetrate the ceiling panels and kill any of those smells too?
It will kill the rats
What if I already sealed the area where it smells? Will this still be affective or should I strip away the seal and then try the O3 generator?
I think it would be best to remove the seal
Will this work on rat pee smell inside car ?
No you won't. Everything will be fine. The Ozone breaks down harmlessly in a short while, and air changes clear it out.
