There are Assyrians and Jews in Hamilton, Ontario. We used to have an older lady from the Holocaust that lived across the street. She still had her tatoo number on her wrist. Her name was Helen. Very interesting video.
Wow! Every year Gordon College used to have Sonya Weitz come and do a 1 hour presentation on her experience of the Holocaust as a survivor (she and her sister were the only ones of her family to survive). It was powerful remembrance of that great evil.
@@tedhildebrandt_BeL that is awesome! I have a lot of respect for the people who lived through that mess. Your classes are most interesting, thank you and God bless you❣
@@tedhildebrandt_BeL back in the late 80's, in my college history class, a man came to gave a lecture. He was a Holocaust survivor. He told about the experiments that were done on him and his brother. They were the lucky ones, considering that others died.
Is this an undergrad course? I appreciate these videos a great deal, Ted. I was miraculously saved by Christ last year at the age of 22 and have received an entirely new calling on my life. I am considering a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Studies or Theology. I am enraptured watching these lectures and studying His Word!
*IMPORTANT NOTES FROM LECTURE 2, CONTINUED* _Fulfilled Prophecy_ Tyre. Ezekial 26:12 predicted that this strong city would be destroyed, flattened, and thrown into the ocean. Alexander the Great came 200-300 years later and threw Tyre into the ocean (I don't know what that means, but anyway). Cyrus. Isaiah spoke of Cyrus, 200 years before he lived. Jesus. Isaiah predicted Him in Isaiah 53. Josiah was predicted in 1 Kings 13:2, 300 years before he lived. It said what he would do, and calls him by name. _Canonization_ Do we have everything God spoke? We don't have the book of Hulda, the prophetess. God wanted it for that day and age, but not forever. He didn't record everything. Solomon wrote 3000 proverbs, but we've got about 375 of them. (1 Kgs 4) How many songs did Solomon write? 1000, roughly. Only one was included in the Bible. Much of what Jesus said wasn't recorded. John said if he told us everything, all the books of the world couldn't hold it. When things were recorded, were they sanctioned immediately, or did legend have to grow first? Moses came down with the 10 commandments, after he tossed and broke the first, and came with the second copy, were they accepted? Yes, they were even put in the Ark of the Covenant. What happened to the Ark? In Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar flattened the temple of Solomon, when they were in exile. Some think it was hidden, but others think it was destroyed. Important point: The ark is gone. Do we have the original of the book of Isaiah? God could have preserved these things, but didn't. [Audio cuts in and out again at 1:07:34]. Did God preserve his word perfectly, or did he turn it over to scribes? Why did God have his word lost instead of preserving the original? Hildebrandt suggests that it was to keep people from making idols of these relics. He mentions that this is just his own opinion, though. The end of the Book of Revelation, says that whoever adds to these words, the curses will be upon you, and if you subtract from it, your name will be subtracted from the book of life. Deuteronomy 4:2 also says not to add or take away from the words. Peter was rebuked by Paul in Galatians. Peter said maybe the Gentiles should be circumcised and do all this Jewish stuff, and Paul told Peter (the big disciple) that he was wrong. Peter, in 2 Peter 3:15, says bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him. Peter acknowledged him. Peter was a fisherman by trade, Paul was a tentmaker and scholar. Peter says Paul writes the same way in all his letters. Peter was aware of the letters. They were immediately authoritative. "His letters contain some things that are hard to understand." (It was the fisherman in him speaking. It was too heady, we suppose.) "The ignorant and unstable distort Paul's letter as they do THE OTHER SCRIPTURES"--meaning they were as authoritative as the other scripture. Daniel cited Jeremiah. Daniel said Jeremiah told them they'd be in Babylon for 70 years, so that's what it would be. He accepted the word of God immediately. No time for legend to brew. Why were some books accepted, others rejected?
If I was one of your children I would be angry with you, you love your last born, just admit, no lecture you finish without mentioning his name, I listened to all of them.. it was his choice to go to Afghanistan... you are a great teacher Prof, thank YOU.
My kids (now 38, 36, 35, 31) call it in our home the Elliott "shrine". So far he's my only kid that almost died for us and his country, although Zach has fallen off a mountain or two. While I love all my kids in different ways, back when these tapes were made I daily feared El's death as he was being shot at every day and nearly died several times outside of Marjah, Afghanistan in 2011. I'm very proud of him as the Marine infantry is extremely difficult. All my kids have faced struggles and actually as the baby of the family (6'2" about 250) all my kids have a special fondness for El. They have all achieved in different ways and are all more successful in their endeavors (politics--Buckeye Inst. think tank, Yale Nurse Practioner/mother, software engineer-mountain climber) than I ever was. Best part for me now as a parent is that all four of them (and yes, my 22 year old grandson Ben) love getting together in Montana, Colorado, Ohio or even home here in MA. As adults they are all best of friends and their mates (Robert, Paul, and Dori) also have bonded into and are accepted just like family--well almost. That is not to say that there have been no rough times, just ask any one of them, but love transcends in the long haul what my screw-ups did in the short haul. But yes, El is favored by us all and it's okay and a point of jesting so you're allowed that privilege too.
Phenomenal teachings!
Thank you🙏

As far as I know they are exactly the same. Hope you find them useful. They are recordings of my classes at Gordon College, Wenham, MA
