I spend most my life at sea running oil platforms over past 12 years and when targeting the big boys, I have found a steel leader, although may make some fish spooked, has allowed me to catch so many giant fish of a lifetime. Especially big grouper fishing. And don’t forget about hand lines. I know I know, but I’ve caught some amazing fish with hand lines. Wear gloves and you can really pull them boys out of anything. I’ve had to become a pro at this over the years. Would love to take you fishing some day when I’m home in gulf shores and swap stories and have some fun. Great content bud

I'm curious why shrimp is used a mile off shore. I always thought that you match the bait where you fish. Please let me know what you think. I'm in Virginia and shrimp is rarely used.

Just because EVERYTHING eats shrimp and shrimp is sold at all bait and tackle places down here. Shrimp, squid, or cutbait would all work.
I had some shrimp from a previous trip knew I could get bit pretty easily on it.
Shrimp is universal for both salt and fresh water. Many species of shrimp are caught hundreds of miles offshore

Dolphins also can lead you straight to big tuna. It's a give and take. Sea lions are the worst bait thieves of all time!😂
Never experienced a sea lion but dang those Dauphins are pretty bad.
