  • Renee Paquette, the world-renowned Canadian-born broadcaster joins Ariel to discuss why, after eight years, she decided to leave WWE 2020. Plus, she talks about her short-lived acting career, how she met her husband, current AEW star Jon Moxley, if she plans on joining AEW, and how difficult it was to work for WWE at times.
Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young) is a Canadian-American broadcaster. Before spending eight years with WWE, she worked for The Score and BiteTV in Canada. She left WWE last summer, now focusing on her podcast, weekly radio show with Miesha Tate, and her four-month old baby.
You can follow Renee on Instagram @reneepaquette, check out her new book Messy in the Kitchen and listen to her podcast Oral Sessions wherever you get your shows.

These two need a show together, they have each other’s level of charisma and knowledge. No other journalist in MMA can have long form conversations that keep you engaged like Ariel and no other broadcaster/host could keep you engaged like Renee did in WWE. They’ve had a tough time replacing her and ESPN have had a tough time with other boring journalists that have less charisma than a chair

the thing is....they were wrong...because even if they didn't see it...she did become a star there. She did build a following. The reason, is simple. Her talent over shadowed whatever limitations, whatever ceiling they manufactured. She was naturally destined to always overcome any of those limitations because of her charisma and talent. Nothing they could do could stop it.

I don't understand how they haven't learned by now with Bobby Gorilla Jesse There was a whole generation that didn't even know Jesse wrestled Gorilla same thing Piper or JR and Lawler especially JR They can become stars and it's better for the product if they do JR Literally has an audience follow him follow him with whatever he does.... Steve Austin started getting the stone cold character over on commentary CM Punk started getting over when he was injured on commentary I don't understand.... For as smart as they are they can be completely ignorant and idiots I think that's a lot of a fucking problem is that they think their geniuses and their way is the only way Until somebody like Tony Khan comes along and fucks their old world up And proves to them that their way isn't the only right way and and capitalizes on their mistakes of how they treat their audience and their employees Let your fucking people make more money let your people make outside money it keeps them happy and you don't have to pay them as much Let them get paid off somebody else's money why is that a fucking problem to you Outside sponsorships should not be a bad thing outside revenue should not be a bad thing As long as it doesn't take away from their ability to perform and do their job You don't use somebody for a whole year and you're mad cause they're fucking doing something with their time You don't want to fuck all to do with them until somebody else does That's like breaking up with a broad and getting mad when she starts dating somebody else what the fuck You didn't want her till somebody else had her Stop trying to plug holes in your boat and build a new fucking boat Fire your shithead outside riders who don't know what the fuck they're talking about and as you used to say back in the day wouldn't know a wrist lock from a Wrist watch Jake Roberts WWE hall-of-famer 2 different decades 2 generations of performers have both said that man is a genius should be a fucking producer agent and on screen personality for WWE right now where's he at? AEW killin it Doing all those jobs for the competition! Scott hall Genius WWE hall-of-famer legend credibility Could be a creative writer Producer on screen talent You don't think that guy could do commentary Where's he at? Killin it on the Con Circuit! And there's dozens more Those are just the 2 I rattled off the top of my head It's fucking ridiculous they had a great product with the network too now it fucking sucks! That's what happens when you make something about money It used to be about the product now it's just about the fucking money they turned your back on everything that made them successful Keep cutting off your nose to spite your fucking face and shooting yourself in the foot the end result won't be good

@@cactaszach2000 That's a book but I agree. What I hate is how they erode stars. They had then Daniel Bryan up to superstardom a few years back but found a way to make him average. They've found a way to make Drew McIntyre, Big E, Seth Rollins, EVERYONE who gets a little steam, AVERAGE. Its boring as balls to watch wrestling without anyone being special.

From their perspective, no one should grow bigger than the business. I kinda get it from a business pov. I'm sure Vince had been scarred alot in the past. Investing alot on guys and they leave (which they have every right to). I like to think Brock Lesnar and to a lesser extent Bobby Lashley (2007) were the breaking points for Vince... making them megastars and they just up and leave. It's the reason why no one now is special so they won't feel any blow per se if they decide to up and leave. At least that's what I think

Just going off the first few mins of the video is that it’s very saddening to see the company taking this approach with its talent because Renee isn’t the first person that has said this about the company saying to it’s talent they aren’t going to be stars, in the attempt to maintain their wrestlers to stay within the company. Ever since guys like The Rock or SCSA they literally took a different approach post attitude era on how they create their stars so they can remain big in that universe instead of being bigger than the company and losing their stars to Hollywood or mainstream media and entertainment. You see it happening with people like Sasha Banks to an extent, you seen it happen to Paige and eventually it happened to Batista as well. They’ll only create stars that is bigger than the company if they know that they can retain them like John Cena and Brock Lesnar

Fast forward a couple of years, the company collapsed and she lost everything.

Ariel - please provide this post direct to Renee. I'd love for her to talk about it. Renee needs to do the following in AEW:
    1. TV CHAT SHOW with Jazz as her Co-presentor - Her own 30mins chat show that takes place with the audience in AEW, sort of how it is presented at the Olympics or something. Jazz should be her co-presenter. That also include Forbidden Door discussion and meetings. It should start on UA-cam then lead onto TNT/TBS as an actual TV show and appear BEFORE Dynamite. Meetings with wrestlers from Mexico, Japan and other places (perfect for NJPW),
    2. NEW DYNAMITE & RAMPAGE SEGMENTS with Jazz as her Analysis - She needs a 2 - 4 minutes AEW Ranking, Analysis & Wrap up segment on Dynamite and on Rampage (when it turn 2 hours) with Jazz as he would be the one to provide the analysis of moves and wrestlers while she provides the insight in Ranking position and movements (who Ranked up, who Ranked down, who is about to defend their Rank, who is at risk of losing their spot., what mega Ranking battle is about to occur in the Top 5., She should include a short fire burst interview with the one that is about to engage in a Ranking Battle.
    3. BRIEF SHOW APPEARANCES - jump in AEW backstage segments now and again but not as a regular as those spots should go to others in the company AND Lexy Nair.
    4. AEW OUTSIDE THE SHOW JOURNALIST/REPORTER - She should be an onsite reporter/journalist going to other events such as festivals and venture that AEW is taking part in (e.g. AEW Games). Final edits should create a 2 mins segment that appears on Dynamite.
The above is practically a full-time senior job. Extremely busy role to be in as she would basically be a SENIOR PRODUCER in the company focusing like a journalist and hostess. She would need her own team to make this all work smoothly in the company, which is a big frigging deal.
Renee, thank me later though I'm sure you've already thought of this and planning to talk to Tony K about it.
