  • This video talks about almost everything about waxing synthetic whip. The whip I am waxing is an 8' thong, 8" handle, lead loaded classic indy bullwhip (which I have a video on).

    I got my wax from Walmart it was supposed to be 3.49 but the next time I went back it was .25 cents a box the same brand you have. Needless to say I bought the whole shelf for about 13.00$ 😁

    You can't ever fully remove wax from a surface...but often you can greatly reduce it's visual discoloration by putting a paper bag over the wax spot (as it's thicker paper...might be able to find a unwaxed butcher paper that works equally well), and ironing it repeatedly (moving the paper as it absorbs the wax). This helps remove some of the wax, while also spreading out the wax that remains on the surface.
    I've used this trick regularly on carpets to the point where the wax stain is only visible under bright light and close examination...not sure how well it'd work on rough stone, but can't hurt trying.

    i think you meant 200 Fahrenheit not celsius ;-) i waxed mine at 200 celsuis and it shrunk like a snail on salt :-) but it still works its just very stiff now

    A double boiler setup would be much safer from a wax temperature standpoint.

    if a use a hockeytape for my whip it's carefull to waxing it?

    • @caliberwhips9595
      @caliberwhips9595  5 років тому +1

      Yes. You can wax a whip with hockey tape, but the wax won't pass through the tape. Да. Вы можете натереть кнут хоккейной лентой, но воск не пройдет через ленту

    I make whips, with the 2 inner bellies are para cord and outer dear hide leather with a kangaroo hide fall. I make them for movies and people who just want a cool toy. But before I go on to long. They require way less maintenance.

    What if you wax the whip and keep it in the sun for a long time ?? Does the wax come off ?? Does it look messy ??

    • @caliberwhips9595
      @caliberwhips9595  5 років тому +2

      No, the opposite actually. If the whip is really flaky with wax, you can leave it in the hot sun and the wax will melt back into the whip and it will look really sharp. Leaving it in a hot car will do the trick. Now, don't leave it out there for days on end.

    Use a heat gun and boiling water to dissolve the wax, (cleaning the stone) and rub it off with dry towel, repeat until gone.

    A larger, deeper pan could be found at a restaurant supply store such as Restaurant Equippers. The largest I've seen are perhaps 14" wide, 24" long and about 8" deep. There's a point where that size may be a bit unwieldy for what you are doing.

    I tested some wax to see if it's really flammable bc I'm kinda a pyro. And i got about 2 to 3ft high flame coming out my grill

    Does the temperature of the wax matter in terms of how well it soaks into the whip? Other than not being too hot to "fry" the whip. As long as the wax is liquid it should do the job right?

    • @evanduplessis9911
      @evanduplessis9911 2 роки тому

      Yes, it does. Any lower than 180 won’t let the wax soak entirely through the fibers, but higher than around 220 will “deep fry it,” as he mentioned. 180-220 is the middle ground/sweet spot so try to stick around there

    You made a lot of sense for me on this,I was just wondering on if the material matters of how it's made I I can wax mine I just purchased, I'm not sure it's waxed, it didn't say in the description but I'll ask the whip maker to be sure,an ty for your video, an know I know where in Walmart to get the wax I need.

  • @miro6138

    Have you ever tried higher temperature? I use around 120°C (250F) and it seems better to me, it absorbs the wax much quicker and it also tightens the plaiting more. I heard that some people like to use even higher temperatures than that.

    • @caliberwhips9595
      @caliberwhips9595  5 років тому +1

      If the temperature is to high, it ruins the wax (it will turn yellow and smell). I usually never go over 200F.

      @@caliberwhips9595 i’ve used 220° for about 10 whips over 2 years cracking pretty harshly moving cattle around and such, also being abused in a barn with the dirt and dust, and it doesn’t melt the fibers or hurt the integrity of the whip as far as i can tell. i’ve experimented with 180 and i find that 210-220° melts it just enough to give it a lower viscosity and get deeper than 180 but not enough to melt the fibers. but i definitely won’t go higher than 220
