Such a great episode of Law and Order: Button House.
Since TV remotes have directionality, Julian would've needed to pick up and point the remote while pressing the button. In series 3, Kitty gets balloons for her 263rd birthday. With the Catholic plot, just realised this is another example of a woman being erased from history but I know it is not Humphrey's fault. The guests are Lords Bummenbach and Pessenpugh.
Some highlights were Mike's improvised singing, not heard since the very first 2 episodes - 'Daddy's gonna drill a hole in the wall.' and 'Don't be scared, don't be scared.' and Fanny's approach to parenting, which was keep the baby as far away as possible and presumably have servants look after it.
I don't know how many people have noticed that the opening credits have been changed for this series. We now see Mary get sucked off and in the last shot she is missing.
I have also noticed for at least these first 3 episodes of the series, they have all featured alliterative phrases.
Ep 1) Fanny says Two tattoos
Ep 2) Thomas says he's as Scottish as shortbread in a tartan tin
Ep 3) Polly with the possets/ Poisoned possets
Regarding dangerous Australian animals, it depends where you go. Sharks are in the water so only swim on patrolled beaches, crocs are only up north and their habitat is well signed to avoid. Most snakes, spiders etc you wouldn't see in urban areas and if you go bushwalking, most people know to wear enclosed shoes, thick socks and long pants. What I do see every morning on my walk around my local streets of Brisbane is about 20 types of birds, including cockys, kookas, galahs and maggies (that's cockatoos, kookaburras, galahs and magpies for the non-Australians)
Re Mike shutting the safe door, I think in Mike's head it emphasises the 'Look we're just two blokes together conducting business'. By shutting the door he is excluding Alison, playing to Barclay's prejudices.
I think Fanny's 'word' for courage and determination is still used in that sense in the US, and it's interesting to see that usage in the UK has increased exponentially in the UK in the 21st century - but I would imagine this is mainly the slang usage. The origins of the word in its original usage go as far back as the 16th century, and seem to have evolved from the word 'spark'.
This episode is definitely a step up from last week - with Kitty's back story we actually get something substantial to hang everything else around.
I remember going to some stately homes in England years ago, and being shown wood carvings by Grinling Gibbons, who specialised in fruits and plants. We were told he often incorporated pineapples as a sign of wealth and status in society. Apparently people could hire pineapples by the hour for functions to impress their guests. More recently a pineapple on a door, especially on cruises, has different connotations.
When I saw the spider on the episode, I first thought it was a redback, but dismissed the thought because she would have experienced extreme pain and nausea, and only the very young, old, or sick would die from their bite. And it looked more orange than red. We do have killer spiders (and snakes, jellyfish, octopi, sharks, crocodiles etc) and love telling tourists about them, but red backs aren't lethal. They are most notorious for hiding under the seats of outdoor toilets, where the resultant bite is both extremely painful and embarrassing. There's even a song about it 😂 . BTW the other Lord was Lord Pissenpugh. A very schoolboy joke. And Barclay does appear again. Who could forget Fanny's bucket list 😂😂
I do enjoy flashback episodes, and this one is so well done. And so now we know evil Eleanor didn't kill Kitty, not that she wouldn't have eventually. She still is a bitch in my book. Mike and Barclay locked in the safe is great, I like Barclay a bit more after this episode. In the US Ghosts there is a special room in their basement that is ghost proof, and actually had a character trapped in there for a hundred or so years. I wonder if this BBC Ghosts safe inspired our safe? We don't have wagon wheels over in the US, but if it's like a Kit Kat I'm all for it. Better episode than last week, I'd give it a 8.5.
