In Australia, line dancing is commonly done to the Tina Turner song 'Nutbush' and is often taught in schools and I just learnt that the steps were created in 1975 by the New South Wales education department and distributed through a teachers' meeting.
Despite not speaking great English, Robin has many layers, with us learning he speaks at least 2 other languages last episode, and we get another of his great puns this episode (Annie-versary). The last pun we saw was when he thought the stuffed bear was chasing him.
Thomas' poem Hermione and Roger is at least 2 hours long, so 138 recitations would take 11.5 days.
In an episode where the Cap bares his soul, it's interesting that Fanny decides to keep up appearances by saying she was thinking about the bible rather than what she was really doing.
Giving an update on alliterative phrases here because none are evident in the next episode.
In this episode the Cap gets 3 good ones: 1) Bilge, bunkum and toffee 2) Nein, nicht, negative 3) Terrible tizz
The previous episode didn't have any but a few lines were words were reused - don't know what it's called but Mikes: Incoming income coming in, and the whole discussion of points for Pointless (or Less Points)

Never thought about the ghosts getting sucked off (or rather up) instead of just fading out like a Star Trek transporter...it's much more dramatic than a transporter beam. Here in the US Ghosts we've seen a character get sucked *down* to HELL, and it's unforgettable as you'd imagine.
Mike and his excursion into the party zone is hysterical. I think we've all lived it. There is no recapturing of youth. I, too, can't stay up late anymore.
The Ghosts pondering the possible end of their existence is so well done, funny and poignant. The death of the Captain, James, was amazing. Havers and James were indeed goosebump-worthy and had me in tears. Bravery indeed.
The line-dancing scene is perfection, and it was emotional for me as well. The end is near and I am not ready to say goodbye...to BBC Ghosts or to Luke and Tash. This episode is a 10.

    Another really great episode.
You're right- the start of the episode is very pedestrian- not in a bad way- just another day in the life/death of the characters- but then turns into something so much more.
Re the strip of ribbons The Captain steals- these are the ribbons associated with particular medals - soldiers don't wear their metal medals all the time, but can display the ribbons to show what they have been awarded. If you Google images of military medals, you will see each one has a particular ribbon that is unique to that medal. I have recently been sorting through family belongings and found an obviously used ribbon associated with serving in Africa during World War II, and now have to work out which of my family served there at that time.
What I find strange is that we learn The Captain's first name here, but we NEVER learn his surname.
I love the Line Dancing scene - for me it's much more emotional than the 'In the Bleak Midwinter' carol singing from the first Christmas special, which most people love.

Poor Captain. I think he is a tender soul that found security and comfort in the military life style where everything is set out and everyone knew what was expected of them. He also probably enjoyed the commeraderie (coc soc anyone?) but wasn't really a fighting man. The front line wouldn't have been a good place for him, but he felt disappointed by to have shared in the experience. His death scene was so sad.
We were discussing his cause of death, and i was thinking he may have suffered Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (known as broken heart syndrome). It is where a sudden major stress, like hearing about the death of a loved one causes part of the heart to constrict so it can't pump effectively. I hope those other officers might have experienced at least some degree of shame after he died. At least he got to share that moment with Havers, and we got to find out his name😊
I don't normally enjoy Achy Breaky Heart, or line dancing, but in this case it brought a moment of real joy after the emotional roller coaster of an episode we'd just watched, and left me smiling. 10/10.
