Mr. Do! is a colourful and addictive maze game in which the player takes on the role of the eponymous Mr. Do, a circus clown, who must clear each level of either cherries or monsters. The game's single screen levels are made up of tunnels surrounded by a colourful, soil-like substance. This soil can be dug through to create new tunnels, allowing Mr. Do to escape his enemies and to reach the many cherries that litter the levels. A number of apples are also scattered around each level, and Mr. Do can push them along tunnels (to block and/or kill monsters) or can tunnel beneath them to drop them onto the heads of any pursuing enemies. Mr. Do himself can also be killed by a falling apple.
Mr. Do is armed with a 'Powerball' that can be fired down a tunnel, it will then bounce around the tunnels until it either returns to Mr. Do, or comes into contact with, and kills, one of the level's monsters. The Powerball regenerates immediately the first time you use it, but takes longer each time it is used to return to your hands. As each level progresses, the monsters themselves start to dig tunnels of their own in their pursuit of Mr. Do. Monsters can also push the apples.
Each screen has a doorway through which the monsters enter the level. Once all of the monsters have appeared, the doorway will turn into a 'prize', (ice cream, biscuits, etc.). If Mr. Do collects the prize, the 'Alphamonster' and his three 'Muncher' henchmen will appear. The Alphamonster may be in the EXTRA box at the top of the screen or be moving around the screen. The Alphamonster and the Munchers cannot be easily crushed under apples because they tend to eat them. They can be killed individually with the Powerball or by killing the Alphamonster itself, at which point any remaining Munchers will turn into apples.
After every three levels, there is a brief intermission in which a tune is played and a large, animated Mr. Do appears, together with some of the game's monsters. The time to complete each level and the preferred method (monsters, cherries, Alphamonsters, or Diamond) is shown. The paths in the first level resemble a 'D', after this each level's tunnels resemble a digit, ('2', '3', '4' etc.) up to '0' for level 10.
A level can be completed any one of several different ways : either by collecting all of the on-screen cherries; by killing all of the monsters, by completing the EXTRA box, or by collecting the diamond. The latter appears only very occasionally ('Special' awards an extra credit).

4.30 what a great quick rescue moment. One of the best arcade games of all time and very popular in the Netherlands at that time. I always liked the intermissions where you could see your scores of the last 3 levels just did. And that sparkling twinkling sound of the diamond....

This takes me back to the memories of the "Gold Mine," an arcade in Augusta Mall in Augusta, GA. I loved this game and once I got the diamond for a replay. But this run is golden. Getting as many extra lives as you can is crucial to success in a high-score attempt.

I got to level 116 when this was out in the 1980's. I perfected it too till the Cafe wanted to close in Peckham, London. I mastered the Diamonds too. It gets really quick. One of the greatest puzzle games of all time. Only WETRIX beats it. The sequels are Mr Do's Castle and Mr Snow.
What about Mr. Do's Wild Ride? Also, Dig Dug, the game that is very similar to this game, is also a fun game.

I always did this game wrong. I always just tried to get all the cherries, which interestingly enough this player did not do once to clear a level. I always had trouble trying to clear the level by killing enemies so I always just went for the cherries instead.

What was the correct pronunciation of Mr. Do? I always said it like Mr. Dew but when he gets the cherries it plays a scale like Doe Ray Me Fa Sol La Te Doe which made me wonder if it was actually pronounced Mr. Doe as in the scale?
Huh, yeah maybe.
And that is the question of the century. I called him Mr Do as in dough and I recently found out this is probably correct.

if john wick played mr do, he would play like this legend. Complete lack of fear and apple trickery make this almost confusing to watch, why did I never try that. Got them killing themselves! Takinf advantage of the huge collision boxes to drop apples, I read somewhere there is a technique to getting diamonds more often too. is there some trick to when they become "wall hungry"? u seem to stop without fear and they do it.. for me im shitting it the whole time.

Why do the enemies keep stopping right before they catch you?
Some sore of cheat code or setting. When I play, they never dig to where the apple falls on them.
It is strange that this and Dig Dug have the same release date in 1982. Similar games.

The creator was told to make a game like Dig-Dug. I think he made a better game.

Hi, no it does nothing, if they touch you from behind you die, what your seeing being done is the stutter trick that makes them stop behind you and turn into diggers.

Using what they call a tool
Very good job, but this does not look like the same exact version of Mr. Do! that this guy would face if he was playing it in an arcade. I own a Mr. Do! and the stall while being chased tactic doesn't always work.
I think you must not be doing it right, it will always work. I actually learned how to do it on an original Universal arcade machine.

I see a cheat code being used..i play this everyday and the monsters just don't stop on command like that ..
Yes they do, I can do it everytime. I get this 'Oh, its a cheat' all the time. This is literally a two and a half hour video tutorial on how to do it.

So, I guess this play is "Completely Fake".
@@swjhong1519 1) Check again, this is the 'real' game. 2) Its a trick anyone can learn to do 3) Its another trick anyone can learn to do 4) There are no patterns, this game is random.

Just because you don't know how to do something, it doesn't mean its fake.
I do not agree that this is the real game.. It is so clear that enemies in this game are all Idiot. This play is never possible in real game. I tested everyday using same play pattern with this game. but iw was impossible to clear more than scene 10.
It’s real. He’s just that good. He’s probably played this game a kazillion times. I play it on my multicade and everything he does I can do. I’m not as good as him but he has mastered the stall and everything in between.
