They say the three finger style is limiting but, I think but I think because you have two extra picks on your fingers you can can do more with it than woth any other style.
Sure you can. But mind the correct strings gauge to have right tension for EADG tuning. Bluegrass DBGDg strings are useless. Another disadvantage of using the 5-str. banjo is distances between frets. It is hard to play notes from 2nd to 7th fret on longer bg banjo neck. Although tenor has shorter neck it is not easy to play those ones as comfortable as on mandolin or fiddle.

Just ordered a Mastercraft tenor from EBay. I'll be sticking with the tenor.

Agree. But watch Dave Hum or Ricky Mier on 5-str. They play lot of irish tunes with great intonation and good sound.
