Keeley Electronics Halo - Andy Timmons Dual Echo

- Опубліковано 9 чер 2022
- Guitar and Synthesizer demo of Halo Dual Echo, the new Andy Timmons signature pedal made together with Keeley Electronics.
The Halo sees Keeley join forces with guitar legend Andy Timmons to create and capture his signature enigmatic delay sound. It features 5 different true stereo delay modes, modulation, saturation and filters, which let you shape everything from pristine multi-tap delays, Atmospheric analog echoes and distorted tape tones. On top of that you got two easily accessible A/B presets, 4 preset banks, tap tempo and infinite hold, making this one heck of a powerful little box of echoes.

Probably the best review on UA-cam of this pedal. Great job!
Oh my! Thank you so much. Means the world to me ❤️🙏
Agreed, delay functions/features are a little over my head, this review brings these features down to my level of experience and is empowering. Thank you Amby Timmons! 🙃 ok, so off I go to play with my halo 😇.
Thanks for deconstructing how the pedal actually works rather than just going through the presets like other reviews I've watch. Good stuff!
My pleasure! Happy you found the video helpful 😊
I agree. This demo was really outside the "box". Showcases the pedal's versatility.
Amazing
Stephan, the genius of your approach to your channel is your explaining and demonstrating each of the features of a pedal. This, more than any other channel I'm aware of, gives the viewer all of the information needed to make an intelligent purchasing decision. I've bought at least 5 pedals over the years that I was initially iffy about strictly due to your thorough reviews.
I have bought two Meris pedals so far and pushed me to get the Sweetwater Fender Deluxe Reverb amplifier in wine red. My bank account does not like me checking out The Pedal Zone but my guitar has never sounded better.
Gosh! That means so much to me. I spend a lot of time getting to know the products deeply before I start recording anything, so I'm really thrilled to hear that it's appreciated on the other end of the screen, and that it's actually helpful to you when making a potential purchase. Makes all the hours spent on making a video like this totally worth it.
This blows all the other reviews out the water! Well done Mr Pedal
Incredibly kind of you to say. Thank you! ❤ - Mr.Pedal
So great for ambient people too that Halo is in stereo
Yeah, he always used two Memory Man Delays, in series, then he has various wet/dry, stereo, wet/dry/wet, etc. options, out to the amps.
The complaint I see on many delay and reverb, even mods now though, is not just that they aren’t stereo, but true stereo, or at least stereo ins and outs.
Regardless of how wickedly awesome the effect is, the comments read “no stereo, automatic no sell.”
Not always, but I’ve seen it a lot, like tap tempo before. Just in the past ten years, I’ve seen the “no tap tempo? Forget it.” over and over. Time based or mod effect.
I get it for ambient players, but there are options to make things stereo, and most of the greatest users of delay, had no stereo units, no tap tempo.
Maybe expression over number of repeats or time, but the Boss delays, DD series, snd DM, had no tap tempo or expression control, nor stereo, snd somehow guitarists figured it out. 😆
Always nice with compact and versatile stereo devices
no joke, the second you got the Ambient Timmons line out, my youtube app crashed and closed out! I was like c'mon it wasnt that bad!😅
Excellent playing as usual!
You know the algorithms have gotten complex when they save you from bad dad jokes 😂 Happy you liked the demo. Means a lot!
He went full Ambient Timmons there. I was expecting Andient Timmons. TBF everyone needs 2 delays. I have a DD3 at the total end of my chain. It has a latch freeze mode (30 years before the EHX freeze and such had it). Great fun.
Well, to be fair the DD3 hold mode is much chopper and not smooth. I love mine though for that reason.
@@zechs5079 Eh true, you gotta understand how it works in relation with the time setting. But it does the job if you get the hang of it :)
You can never have enough delay. I have 3 delay pedals on my board, and 2 other pedals on there that a capable of producing delays without being a dedicated delay. So many textures available through cascading echoes.
@@thepedalzone not just for lead or ambient either, I usually set my delays up so that they're a mono ping pong 😂
I’ve been waiting SO long for someone to to a small format delay that does ‘the thing’ dual delay. This seems to do almost all of the things right that other builders seemed to be deaf to. Well done (again) RK. Not just the GOAT of the modern pedal age, not just still relevant after 20 years, but a dominant current contender pushing the envelope, getting it right.
Happy to hear you're stoked about HALO. Keeley and Andy definitely killed it with this one.
Thank you very much Chris Copeland, I've put together a great group of guys that are in their prime. It's marvelous.
Demo sold me. As always. So good. But seriously. Andy Timmons is beyond amazing. He has literally mastered everything about the guitar. He can make you tear up on command I honestly I had never heard him play until I saw this pedal and had to see who Andy was. Dayyyumm.
Don't buy too many pedals because I don't need them. But This pedal I grabbed because the demos I have seen tells me it's a worthy pedal to add. Great demo!
I saw JHS and Pete Thorns review of this pedal today and to see Stefan's pop up made my DAY!! Unlike the other demos that demonstrated how great this pedal sounds, this demo really got into the nuts and bolts of how it works and showed many more facets of this pedal that the others I have seen so far. Not surprised. The Pedal Zone is my favorite pedal demo channel hands down. I also liked what was said about even though this is a signature pedal, you are in no way limited by what it can do as it can do so much. And as always, beautiful ambient sounds from Stefan.
DUDE! Thank you so much. Can't express how much it means to me that you took the time to compose and post such a kind message. Truly made my day ❤ This pedal is awesome, and I'm stoked to hear you think I gave a fresh and detail oriented perspective on it.
@@thepedalzone Ohh man, thank YOU for what you do! Your channel has turned me onto so many new sounds and how to make them, can't thank you enough! If you happen to read this, have you released any of your own music outside of the channel? If so, I would love know where to find it! I have watched some of your reviews many times just to hear the ideas you put together. Truly beautiful stuff. I always look forward to when I get a notification of a new video from your channel!
Nobody puts a pedal through its paces like you Stef! Kudos! Both the Keeley Eccos and Hydra sound great but I wasn't feeling them enough to give them any real estate on my board. This pedal was love at first sound though, so it's definitely going on there!
Thanks, man! Means a ton to me. Really cool to hear you're really feeling this pedal. It's just so good!
Great sounding pedal. Might have to add this to my Eccos and Hydra.
Definitely give it a whirl, if you get the chance. It sounds phenomenal!
You had me at stereo doubler! I am a huge fuzz guy as well. I’ve had my Halo for almost a week and learned so much from your video I didn’t know it could do
One of my favorite parts of developing pedals is.....learning new ways to play my pedal from the UA-cam artists!!!!! I kid you not, I can't count the times I've said "Huh, I didn't know it would do That sound!", after getting the first look at a demonstration video! HAHA! The Halo does an amazing array of doubling sounds and other assorted weird small millisecond stuff!
Excellent demonstration and excellent playing. Mine will be here shortly & I will be re-watching your video multiple times.
You always bring me to a deep place with your music. Congratulations with your playing and thank you for sharing some of your pieces while making me spend uncontrollably.
Great pedal , it has the A.T moyo 🤔🤔, but this demo has your art and the magic landscapes you create , my respect , great job 😃👏👏👏
ur demo tipped me over the edge. Just bought one! Your attention to detail! TY!
Killer demo, as always, Stephan.
Perfect for folks who might not give this pedal a look, if not for you demonstrating it’s capabilities with your style of playing.
Thanks, man! Super sweet of you to say ❤
True. I think I might have been like: Andy WHO? Checked him out, not into his style, and passed on this. Now it has my interest, thanks to Stefan.
Excellent as usual, thank you.
Cheers! Means a lot to me
This sounds so good, really love the sounds you found here
Thank you kindly, Joan 🙏 It’s just a wonderful pedal.
Excellent!! Always excellent with you Stefan!!
Thank you, Mike! Always means a lot to me. Hope you're well, my friend ❤
Love your playing ! Great demo and the pedal sounds amazing.
Man! Thank you so much!
Nice pedal, nice Cult of Luna shirt, and nice playing. Your channel is my favorite for pedals, cause I too love post rock/ambient music.
I'm loving how all the secondary functions are labeled right there on the knobs: not enough pedals do this. Plus all the delay/mod options in STEREO? And the easily programmable presets: key since most of my delay pedals lack functionality for live playing. Thanks for unpacking all of this in an easy to understand instructional method, Stefan. I've always loved this format for your channel. I know I've said it before, but I'll keep saying it! :)
Long time Timmons fan and I'm watching demos while waiting for my pedal to show up in a week or so. First time finding your channel and I love ambient post rock stuff, great playing man!
Welcome to the channel, man! Great to have you here. And thank you so much for the incredibly kind words. Made my morning amazing ❤
best review and gorgeous playing! thanks mate
Incredibly kind of you. Thank you! ❤️
Very well thought out
Yeah, it’s super rad
Thanks for a cool and different perspective on this pedal!
My pleasure! Really happy you enjoyed it. This pedal rules!
Fab demo, cheers!
Thank you!
After watched your demo on Sunday I ordered the Halo and was delivered on Tuesday, I’ve been messing around a little bit, but it has a beautiful and rich sound, I’m amazed with all the features, I was about to buy a Boss RE 2 but this one got me covered by now and I can use that pedalboard space for another reverb or weird modulation.
Recently bought this pedal. It’s something incredible and outstanding. On the one hand it’s very simple. And on the other hand it can help you to discover new sonic dimensions!
Thanks for showing your specific settings!
Love it man…. I love the doted eighths! Great playing once again.
Thank you very much!
this is going to help a lot thanks!!
Always Great Tones & Compositions of Your Pedal Demo's. Awesome Delay.
Thank you! And yes, this pedal is epic!
@@thepedalzone Bought the delay and besides the great sound and functions it looks awesome too.
You did a great job in showing the pedal's core functionality. The sounds and melodies you got were memorable. Keep rocking.
Thank you very very much! Means a ton to me 🙏
Excellent Video! I just bought one of these amazing Keeley Halo pedals - can't wait!
Thank you! I'm sure you're gonna love it. It sounds so good!
I love strymons like any other guy but sometimes we want something more streamlined, no screens or secret menus, just a couple of foot switches and a few knobs…
And just like many classic guitars and amps that were aimed at one particular crowd but were successful in a completely different genre (like the jazzmaster) I see this pedal being very useful for post rock, ambiance and P&W music too..
After wacthing your demo for the ..50th time..and now owning one, and playing with it for a week..
Man..As much as your demo does undeniably justice for the pedal..it´s still something one would
not simply really expect. Pure awesomeness'. Happy, so happy 🤤Thank´s Stefan 🤘
Great demo and sweet pedal
Thank you!!
Best review of this pedal anywhere. Informative and inspiring. Amazing tones.
Gosh! Thank you so much!
It clearly is the world’s first seriously unintentional ambient/post rock pedal. Wonderful.
Ha! Maybe it is 😊
@@thepedalzone fo shizzle. By the way I really liked what you played in this video. Occasionally I think I should try and be a bit more traditionally post rock. Last year’s album leaned more towards ambient and the album I am releasing in July has come out a bit more droney. It’s funny really the process I have is that I never seem to be able to do something intentionally. Things always just kind of happen. Having said that it seems to be working ok. I do feel like just making a balls to the wall record or ep at some point.
this was the demo we needed... new here and thanks for this approach
Really means a lot to me. Thank you! and welcome to the channel. Good to have you here 😊
Great demo - you demonstrated a wide range of amazing sounds.
Seems like a killer pedal; the best aspects of digital, tape and DMM nature to produce one amazing sound
Thank you very much! This pedal is just immense. Love it so much!
Per usual, you’ve inspired me to play before bed. Just a fantastic display of ambiance and melody. All my love brother, hope you’re well.
Thanks, bud! Appreciate you ❤️
Superb demonstration Stefan, Keeley has, as ever, crammed so much into a small enclosure and it is so cleverly put together... Wonderful playing, as always Stefan, you really got to essence of Halo. It is perfectly suited to you and your style! Hope you are well bud!
Thank you, Doug! Your support is always so appreciated. And yeah, I was surprised by how much Halo resonated with me. Didn't really know what to expect from an Andy Timmons signature delay, but oh boy is it perfect for me. Definitely a keeper!
Thank you so much. I was on the fence about purchasing this pedal, now I’m going for it. Great video.
Honored to hear you found the demo helpful and inspiring. I'm sure you're gonna love this pedal. It sounds SO GOOD!
You make it sound even more special :)
That’s very kind of you to say 🙏
Cool review man thanks
Happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting. Means a lot!
He did it again, an amazing review video 😩😩
Awwww! Thank you 🙏❤️
Mine arrived and OMG is it vibey. I LOVE it. Instantly my favorite delay.
Happy to hear you're as stoked about it as I am. It's so insanely good!
@@thepedalzone Now I really wish my Dispatch Master was stereo because I love its reverb after the Halo. Might need to pickup something like an Immerse.
Thanks Kevin!
best demo on this box yet! I may be sold on one of these.
Really kind of you! Thank you!
Keeley should give you commission. Great intro into the Halo!
That means a lot to me! Thank you!
I was not very into this pedal to begin with, and i didn't know who andy timmons were, but when you started playing, i was just enveloped in the glorious sounds that came out!
I feel like this pedal fills such wast sonic space, i'd have a hard time pairing it with something else :P
I'm kinda gas'ing on this. i had to listen to your video agai!
Very cool demo bro wow
Thank you so much!
Although the presets are already awesome, you opened up more possibilities with this pedal can do with your demos. I am fully amazed when you did that chorus and rotary. Your demo made me buy this pedal for sure
Super honored to hear that the demo was inspiring and helpful to you. This pedal is just so good!
Cult of Luna! Great band. Pedal's cool too.
Yeah, they’re awesome
The hi-pass seems particularly well dialed-in. Mod sounds great as well.
Yeah, all of the elements in this pedal are really well voiced and with suitable range so things don’t get too out of hand
@@thepedalzone andy is a tone king for a reason haha
Hey Ambient Timmons, I know this is an old video, but I just noticed you were wearing a Cult of Luna shirt. I discovered them while going through cancer treatment and spent many nights listening at 1am because the drugs were keeping me awake. Killer band 🙂
I’m and old dude and I really enjoyed your music! And good review that broadens the scope.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a kind comment. I really appreciate it 🙏
Oh Man! I’ve spent 2 weeks looking for a stereo doubler pedal for big wall of fuzz with mi hizumitas and voilá! Here comes Stefan with some new magic. Thanks a lot man, big fan from Spain!
Pd: now i can forget that you didn’t review the Screen Violence yet.
🙌🏼
Hizumitas sounds monstrously huge together with Halo. Really awesome for making riffs sound larger than life.
Hope I get the chance to check out Screen Violence at some point :)
The best review ever
Really really kind of you. Thank you!
A damn near perfect digital delay.
I'm only using this and my old Maxon AD9 Pro. It's all the delay I will need for a very long time.
Stoked to hear you're enjoying Halo. So versatile and only full of amazing sounds.
Nice shirt man! Loved Cult of Luna when they first came around! Not as much a fan of the new stuff but still love their roots
They just rule! I'm actually more into their later stuff. But they've just been consistently awesome throughout their entire career.
Excellent demo Stefan! thorough and musical. All here was clear and perfect. Excepting the A-mbience Timmons joke.
Haha! Thank you so much 😍
All the best
Ambient Timmons
Thanks for this video! I love this delay and also have the Hizumitas on my board. I know what i'll be doing tonight. I have a Mesa Maverick with effects loop for one channel and will run into the front of a Satellite Scamp on the other side
Sounds like you're in for a lot of fun! Happy you enjoyed the demo. Means a lot to me!
I enjoy you demo/reviews - I need to try some of these out w/ my Arturia - haha -
Thank you very much! Synths and stereo delays are a match made in heaven. Go for it!
Your channel really knows how to make me spend money
Can't believe how good it is. The other day I was playing this pedal for the first time at a shop and somebody came over and said it sounded amazing (the pedal, not me haha). Didn't even realize the features this thing had.
Yup, it's just a phenomenal pedal. Sounds so good!
thanks for the review. hoped for an expression pedal examples though - always liked you play with such functionality. btw you sold me Eccos, so now I'm on fence swapping it to this grainy non-looping version of it! "hidden" tap-tempo is a downside for syncing devices, but... last, but not least, question: is there a spillover between a and b modes? it could be a killer with two parallel/cascade delays.
Man, didnt think this pedal would give off a post-rock vibe at first glance...
Same here! Totally blown away by its atmospheric potential
You did a stellar job reviewing this, thanks stefan!
This sounds so good. Had to order one 😂
Cool to hear that my demo inspired you to pick one up. Such a beautiful sounding delay pedal
I don’t need this pedal!!
Because of your Demo I just bought it! Damn you 🙌🏻😄 and I subscribed
You can always find a use for more delay 😊 Really happy and honored to hear you enjoyed the demo so much. And thank you for subscribing. Means a ton to me!
You’re the best man!! So good! And a great joke btw 😅
Haha! Thank you 😊🙏
Can get a similar sound by running a TC Flashback set at tape delay , into another TC Flashback set at mod delay . For a fine overdrive can run a TC SparkBoost into an Echoplex preamp pedal .
Hey, as long as you’re happy with your sound then I’m happy.
Love it! Think I was confused about the dual footswitches somehow controlling "delay A" and "delay B" that would interact with each other or be switched on/off independently. The footswitches just basically control preset banks, and it's really 'just' some of the 5 delay modes that are 'dual delay' by design, yes? Thanks for including the synth demo too... I'm definitely hoping to use this with my Microfreak!
In short, this isn’t the Strymon Dig.
It definitely gives you some dual delay sounds with wonderful tweaking possibilities. But the A and B buttons can only be used one at a time and they are separate from one another. This is the info I wish I knew before buying this. It’s still a high quality stereo delay unit, so I’ll be keeping it. But I was hoping to be able to tweak what kind of delays I’d be combining. Instead you’re kinda stick with 3 of the 5 delays and their specific dual delay rhythms. That’s why they’re called “rhythms” on the pedal but he calls them “modes” in this video. For example, the Halo, Analog and Tape settings cannot have their dual delay rhythms changed.
How does the tape algo stack up against other well known pedals like the Catalinbread BED and Booner? I’m keen on a great tape style delay but am also really liking the other sounds from this pedal and its small format.
Excellent demo as usual!
Thanks for the kind words about the demo. Means a lot to me! So the thing about the different modes is that they aren't "algorithms" per se. They are rhythmic settings inspired by different delay units. So the Tape Mode is just a cascading delay rhythm inspired by old tape units. You can impart all of the different modes with tape-like qualities through the different controls. If you want to create a tape-like sound, then use the High-pass to roll off some of the low-end, introduce some saturation and grit through the Saturate control, dial the Tone just a tad back to slightly soften the high-end and introduce a bit of slow modulation for some sway and flutter. The same way, every mode can be a digital delay, if you leave the Tone maxed out, and don't introduce any saturation or high-pass, and every mode can be an analog delay, if you dial the tone well back and introduce some subtle compression and modulation.
Hi,
can you make a clear, slow video of: how can I save my own settings (if I dont like the original settings) and then how can I do the original settings back?
Would be a great help!
Really like you videos! Keep rocking!
No. YOU’RE the best, Stefan 😊
❤❤❤
I know what I'm going to get for Christmas😇
You're very lucky. It's such a great delay pedal
I have the Halo and his AT+ overdrive also “ambient Timmons” 😂😂
This is great, I have mine coming today. Have you used an expression pedal with it?
Thanks! You're in for a treat. It's just a phenomenal pedal. I haven't used expression with Halo. But I've used it with the Keeley Eccos and it's implemented in the same way. Really easy to set up, and lets you jump between two completely different settings, if you want to. Really cool. You can check out my Keeley Eccos demo, if you want to, to see how expression is implemented.
wow
Happy you like it!
Amazing demo. I know you like to run your guitar signal in mono most of the time. Would you say this pedal is still worth it if I'd be using it >90% of the time in mono, and only occasionally do the stereo thing for my own sonic pleasure :) ?
Totally worth it! I use it in mono on my band board, and it sounds amazing!
@@thepedalzone Thank you so much for the answer!
@3:49. Can I ask what are your exact settings? I have been hunting for a pedal to make this sound for years and bought The Halo solely because you made that sound with this pedal. I'm assuming you have used the feedback knob to access the alt controls?
Okay help! I watched your video and noticed that the settings don’t sound the same as yours.
I was curious if you’d be willing to share those settings and how you got them?
There are secondary controls using the Halo so when I adjusted the first set of them, it’s missing the others.
Have a great day!
Do you still enjoy this echo pedal? I purchased the EmIII after your demo and it’s become one of my favorite delay pedals of all time.. I actually ordered this one and am looking forward to learning the pedal
Yes, I absolutely love the Halo. One of the finest straightforward delay pedals I've ever played. The way that the delays cascade to almost enter reverb-like territories is absolutely unmatched, in my opinion. I'm honored to hear you picked up the EM-III after watching my demo. That delay pedal is so underrated.
Hi I am thinking of upgrading to this from a Boss DD 20, which i have used since forever. Was wondering if its worth the upgrade or if its possible to tweak the trusty old Boss to get close to the Halo effect.
Thanks so much in advance.
You need this pedal
This or the Alexander Rewind delay - you can only choose one 😄 Go!
Depends on what my situation called for. If I needed a bunch of wildly different delay tones, then I would go for Rewind. If I needed the best echoverb tones on the planet, then I would go for Halo. Halo can't do what Rewind does and Rewind can't do what Halo does. So it all comes down to what you really need for your rig to nail the sounds in your head.
@@thepedalzone fair answer. Thank you!
I would like it to have a blinking tap tempo led. Don’t know why it doesn’t stay always on!
Another think it is annoying with this pedal is the fact that the tempo is always changing with each preset.
I was completely underwhelmed by Timmons' own pedal demo on JHS' channel.
Your demo did the opposite for me.
Really honored to hear I was able to give a fresh perspective on this pedal's incredible sonic potential ❤
That first thing you played kinda sounded like Vessels by Memphis May Fire
Okay. Never heard of them. I'll have to check them out 😊
@@thepedalzone yeah great band :P Unconditionals a great album. Their new albums pretty good too but i dont think anywhere near as good.
Can it do a basic delay also without all the modulation?
Yes. I also show that in the demo :)
Man, I wish all delays had that much saturation, I dont get close to that on my volante
Yeah, the compression/saturation is hella cool. Opens up so many sound design possibilities.
Forget about that pedal.Cult of luna's latest album is sooo fckn good
It is a really great album for sure. Maybe even my favorite of theirs. Tough choice between that and Mariner. They just get better and better for every album they put out.
How does this compare to the Strymon Dig?
Don't know. Never played a DIG.
I would like to pay you for a twenty minute phone tutorial.. would this be possible?
I do not have headphones on at the moment. I will come back later.
See ya later 😊 I'm just assuming most people will be watching on their phones, which will deliver a fine experience, but if you want the full experience of the stereo image, then headphones or a proper monitor setup is definitely to be preferred.
Great tutorial..Im unfortunately sold..lol
Really happy you liked the demo. Means a ton!
