I have taken Music Theory, sadly I had no time to catch up after I entered in college and in the last 5 years haven't played guitar. Is really sad how much I forgot, but I am determined to practice again and I want to be fluent to read sheet music while I play, I cannot even remember the most of what I could play, I remember only 4 or 5 songs. Watching your lessons are amazing, thank you.
Many thanks, been searching for "easy learn to play piano chords" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (should be on google have a look )? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to play the piano like a pro without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
This is glorious, been searching for "how to play piano chords in a song" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (just google it )? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to play the piano like a pro minus the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Good video! Honestly though, I don't know how anyone learns to read music...there's just SO much to try and comprehend let alone read and play at the same time. Kudos to all that have mastered it. :)
i'm learning from a very popular berklee guitar book and none of this is explained. you're just told to work through the material. this is very helpful
That was amazing. I had previously touched on inversions but, it’s different to see and hear the chords versus just reading about them. You made it very easy to understand.
So glad I found this video! It was super helpful for me as I am a guitar player trying to write a guitar part for an established play production that has no guitar part and the only music I have to use is a Piano score! Trying to identify the chords correctly had been quite difficult until I found this video! Again super helpful for me so thank you for making it quick and easy to understand as seeing the Piano music was incredibly intimidating.
Great Presentation on chords. I will watch your other lessons. Myself I memorize the C chords and use the chromatic scale to figure out anychord by going up a 1/2 step. (or down). Thanks for the lessons. Hello from Texas
That was very good. I'm working on my major triads now--memorizing the major ones. Your information was very helpful. I'll send a donation ASAP. Thanks again!
Thank you so much man, really helped me. I have my ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory exam next week and this video really helped me revise. Thank you so much!
Thanks Tim, this is quite a handy little video. I'm currently at the stage where I know most of the keys, but I have been struggling with reading chords from the sheet music. This has helped, but my question is - when there are more than three notes in the chord, do you continue to shift notes between clefs in the same way as you would a triad? Will that still work for chords that have 4 or more notes?
it would be nice if when you explain the chords is to have the camera showing your fingers/hand on the keys rather camera is on you. I just want to give that feedback. Thank you for all you do!
justchillinxo you gotta look at the intervals. Basically, the major triad is created from the 1, 3 and 5 degrees of the major scale. That's the major triad formula. The formula for the minor triad is 1 b3 5. The diminished is 1 b3 b5. And augmented is 1 3 #5. So in the case of a C chord, if you have C E G it's a major triad, if you have C Eb G it's a minor triad, if you have C Eb Gb it's a diminished triad and if you have C E G# it's an augmented triad.
would you please give some hints as thaw to read cord as a whole word. say, : PIANO. . when I look at this word I dont read every single letter - rather I read the whole word. how to do that with a given cor4d ?
Great video! How about identifying chord in a linear horizontal way? I saw somewhere that the chord tones tends to fall on downbeats and tensions on upbeats. Any thoughts about it?
Do you have practice sheet music? I know the chords but moving from one to another on the piano is a nightmare. How much practice should this take, and what learning sequence do you recommend, root first then inversions? So frustrated.
I have a question, How can i build a triad/seventh chord that contains 2 same notes an octave apart. (eg a triad with the notes C3, D3 and C4. Or A 7th Chord with the notes C3, D3, E3 and E4?) Please make a video on this, as I am perplexed.
So explain why lowering the ‘E’ in a C major triad (C,E,G) makes it a C minor and what does it have to do with it’s actual ‘A’ minor chord? Not worded very well. But C major already has a minor cord which is ‘A’ Minor, why does lower the ‘E’ in a C major triad make it minor. Confused!
I think you might be confusing the key of C major with a C major chord. The key of C major uses the white keys on the piano (CDEFGAB). The key of A minor also uses these same keys (ABCDEFG). A minor is the relative minor to C major because it uses those same keys. A C major chord is just using three of those keys (CEG). A major chord is the root note, plus four half-steps, plus three half-steps. If instead you lower the middle key by one half step, the pattern is root, plus three half-steps, plus four half-steps. This makes it a 'minor chord' vs a 'major chord'. Not 'A minor' (the key something is played in).
This is glorious, I have been researching "basic major chords piano" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (do a google search )? Honestly.... would be better if you identify the notes and maybe cam view your keys. Seeing you doesnt help. Was hoping for good stuff here. my 2 cents.

This lesson could be one minute long. Just put root position, 1st inversion, 2nd inversion, and the opened chord on the same staff, side by side, and let us see the difference. 7th chords could have been included so we see it all in one shot. I hate it when teachers do this shit. They stretch it out over 3 weeks, at $50 per lesson, $150.
With UA-cam videos, there is no way to know how people will find them or in what order or what level they are at. He's flung the prudent thing by explaining just enough that almost anyone can follow along. Just because you and I are coming in with some amount of prior knowledge doesn't mean everyone is. He's an excellent teacher, in part for that reason. Also, this is a free video... Lol
I am still learning, but my tip is to memorize the notes on the clef first if you haven’t already. And I think you have to understand intervals before you can learn chords.

i've always been bad at music theory. thank you, you made it a little more clear.

can you please also expand on how to identify if the triad is major/minor/augmented NOT by sound?

justchillinxo he tires to teach us to use ear
Just look at the intervals
Nice lesson. Can I ask what software or app are you using in plotting your notes? Seems very convenient 😊
Great lesson. Thank you!
Great lesson. Learned something
So good thanks for the video 🎉

Great explanation, thank you!
Great tutorial. 🎻
Very helpful.
Well explained.

If there are no base cleft in sheet music does that mean it is played above middle c
thanks alot i have learnt alot from this video
Very helpful...thank you
How do you learn chord spellings? And how do you determine that this is an F minor triad?
Excellent lesson
This is making me useful. 😊
How do I know where the root is in all those inversions and not to confuse them with other chords?
Thank youuu!
would you please give some hints as thaw to read cord as a whole word. say, : PIANO. . when I look at this word I dont read every single letter - rather I read the whole word. how to do that with a given cor4d ?
What app/program is that for converting handwriting into sheet music?!
Why does 7:12 have a flat symbol before the C note, does that mean the Cb is B note instead?
Great video! How about identifying chord in a linear horizontal way? I saw somewhere that the chord tones tends to fall on downbeats and tensions on upbeats. Any thoughts about it?
take a drink my guy lol
Do you have practice sheet music? I know the chords but moving from one to another on the piano is a nightmare. How much practice should this take, and what learning sequence do you recommend, root first then inversions? So frustrated.
I would really like some suggestions on practice sheet music also.....moving between inversions is so tough. Thanks so much and I love the lessons....
I have a question, How can i build a triad/seventh chord that contains 2 same notes an octave apart. (eg a triad with the notes C3, D3 and C4. Or A 7th Chord with the notes C3, D3, E3 and E4?) Please make a video on this, as I am perplexed.
Febreeze well c,d is not a triad and c,d,e no seventh chord
My Musical Dream i meant playing C3,D4 AND C4 at the same time to make a chord. Same thing eith the 7th chord
What's the thing you used for drawing notes on the sheet music? Is this a website?
It's called Staffpad and it is a piece of software for Windows
Piano Lessons On The Web thank you :)
hey what do you use to write your music online???
Soooooo helpful OMG!
After wanting for years to learn piano I found Turbo Piano Secret and it seems to be the top home study method (check it out on google)
Why isn’t 6:11 F minor? It’s a root position chord and the bottom note is in F
Great job !
Thanks Rudy!
What is the sheet music program your using?
it's StaffPad for windows
What is the FPS for that web cam
Probably 2 lol
A bit tough for beginners - this can't be your first class - 2nd inversion what?
He has many other videos. :)

So the bass note is always the root note????????????????
