I use three boat bags and I like the large Simms . One for dries / nymph , one for streamers and one for my swinging gear makes it really nice to be able to just grab a bag with everything you need and go . I put my name on all my fly boxes and gear , boat bags. Left my Yeti Panga bag at the Eight mile Ford ramp didn’t even realize I’d done it , get a call after I’m home for a while and the guy is like is this Mike ? I’m like yup he says I have your Yeti bag . Made me feel good about humanity again. Thanks for sharing.
so true about the name tags. I lost a nymph box on a river and I put a return address label on all of my fly boxes. It was returned to me a couple days later by another fly fisherperson.
Funny thing about name tags. My dad and I were fishing a long time ago, like the 1970's, and found a rod tube. It had someone's name and address on it which was about a mile from our house. We put it in the passenger compartment of our car and went fishing, intending to return it to the owner when we got home. Got done fishing and when we got back to the car the vent window was broken and the rod tube was missing. I guess the moral of this story is if you're going to pick up someone's bag either carry it with you or put it in your car where no one can see it. Keep the good stuff coming Kelly.
Great video, that Simms bag setup is virtually identical with my own. A torch and a spare pair of socks + a hat is a good addition with some spare cash but that being said I actually keep the waterproof over pouch that came with my rucksack in there too. In a torrential downpour it’s a great way of keeping my walking bag super dry, especially with my phone and car keys stored in there. After the rain it’s very easy to dry rather than the bag itself even though they are supposed to be ‘waterproof’

Tell John, if he ever makes it back to Vermont for any reason, this Vermonter and fellow UVM alum will take him out on the Batten Kill for our gnarly wild browns here. I'm more of a Gilmore Girls guy myself than Kardashians, but such things can be overlooked in the name of big browns.

I was just wondering if at some point you guys could cover what your personal favourite lines are for both sinking and floating applications? I know it’s a loaded question as it is so dependent on what, where, and when you are fishing… however it would be interesting to hear what lines have been your recent favs amidst all the new competitors coming out! Cheers!
I take a pair of basketball shorts and a light long sleeve tee folded, and then rolled up, and a rubber-band around them to keep them small, and have them placed inside of a gallon ziplock bag for those days that I “like” to unintentionally take a swim in the river. And a rain jacket, can’t tell you how many weathermen have been wrong on a day I was out on the river and a buddy didn’t bring his jacket and wound up taking a falls worth of water to the truck with him for the mistake.

The comb is a piece I never fish without, I mounted it to my hook sharpener.

If you are cheap like me, you can use old coolers or plastic totes which come in a million sizes AND they are more protective than a soft bag

Boat bags also make great carry on luggage. I’ll put all my boat bag contents in my roller duffel then reload the boat bag at my destination.
