I'd say at least 80% of the black people I know either as colleagues or friends over the age of 30 to 50 look 10+ years younger than their actual age. Whereas myself and 90% of other white people I know look either their age, or older.

I've been trying not to turn my ankles like that, because I think it's contributing to my feet hurting so bad! I love how unbelievably comfortable + casual Amber is, including drinking a cocktail out of a glass with her name on it. The clear comfort that she and Seth have... meanwhile her sister is being very professional, promoting the book, etc

I was at karaoke once with a close friend who was black. A white girl got up and sang "I Will Survive". My little white brain was like, "she's nailing it!" but my friend got kind of down and said, "I hate it when people put on fake blackvoice". It was something I thought was so totally innocent- I didn't even know that this was a thing people took note of- and it was genuinely hurting a person I cared about. I don't think the singer intended anything by it... she thought she was paying tribute, I'm sure. There were probably people of all colours in the audience who thought she was entertaining or at least didn't mind. But those are exactly the same excuses people use for blackface. It made me wonder how many things I've done over the years that didn't mean a thing to me but hurt somebody else. A book like this is great... it will be full of anecdotes of well-meaning people who fucked up and didn't even know it, and hopefully it will encourage some bahaviour changes once people realize how those types of things can be taken.
Please delineate between using the characteristics and making a characterization. Even though imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, any possible interpretation as a mockery won't sit well. I'm grateful for Black music and grateful that some black musicians enjoy my musical contribution, but like in the Bible, i wait to be invited rather than told to find someplace to sit down... Soulful is good. Sincere is good. Knowing that you'll never truly share the experience of 24/7/365 racism is humbling. I pray that these observations were helpful
